Chapter 153 The Real Situation
In the underground garage, Charles was chilling in the back seat with the left car door wide open.
His hand was in his coat pocket, fiddling with the pair of tiny socks without even realizing it.
At the car door, bodyguards Idris and Jett stood there, heads down, exchanging confused looks, trying to figure out what Charles was getting at.
"So, what did she do today? Spill it, and don't leave anything out."
It was clear he was checking up on how well they did their job.
Idris spoke up first, sounding pretty sure of himself, "Ms. Spencer hit up a luxury store and met some woman. They chatted for a bit and then split. At noon, she had lunch with friends at a restaurant, and after that, they went to Enigma Club. They ran into that woman again, and everyone seemed cool. Her friends suggested hitting a hot spring, getting massages, and finding some eye candy to have fun with..."
In Charles's head, "her friends" meant Isolde and Evelyn, but who was "that woman"?
He kept his face blank and let Idris keep talking.
"Ms. Spencer went into the hot spring but didn't stay long. She went to the outdoor pool at Enigma Club to catch some sun. She met a guy, and they chatted for a bit. After her friends came out, they all went their separate ways. Then they hit up a baby store to buy some stuff."
Charles already knew what happened next, so Idris stopped there.
After hearing all this, Charles didn't look too happy.
"Who was that woman, and who was that guy?"
"Mr. Percy, Ms. Spencer only asked us to keep our distance for protection. We don't know what they talked about, and men can't go into the women's hot spring area. We were outside..."
Idris tried to explain, but his voice trailed off.
Nolan, standing nearby, frowned, thinking, 'This idiot. Charles only cares about the outcome, not your excuses!'
Nolan quickly nudged Jett, hoping he'd have something more useful to add. "Why aren't you saying anything? You were there too, tell us what you saw."
Jett scratched his head, sounding unsure, "We were pretty far away, but Ms. Spencer didn't do much today. She just ate, drank, and hung out with her friends."
Seeing Charles's intense stare, Jett quickly straightened up and said more seriously, "Ms. Spencer just browsed at the luxury store without buying anything. She was probably showing Evelyn around. As for that woman, I think she was just someone Ms. Spencer met by chance. They didn't seem close at the store. The guy was probably that woman's brother; they looked a lot alike..."
All three of them stared at Jett, even Idris looked shocked.
How did he figure that out?
"As for finding handsome guys to have fun with, I was surprised too. But later, I asked my sister, and she said girls joke about that stuff. And Ms. Spencer didn't actually go."
After Jett finished, he looked up at Charles.
He added, "That guy and woman just bumped into Ms. Spencer, so they decided to hang out together. The guy was polite and gave her a towel when he saw her hair was wet. They just chatted a bit. That's all I know."
The more Charles listened, the darker his expression got.
He had come all this way to confront Diana based on the bodyguards' report, only to find out it was all a misunderstanding?
No wonder Diana stayed quiet and didn't bother explaining.
Thinking of her stubborn and mocking face, Charles felt for the first time like he was a joke.
He pressed his lips together and gave a low command. "Get out!"
The two bodyguards felt his anger and quickly backed off, not making a sound.
Charles shut the back door, and Nolan got into the driver's seat without a word.
As soon as he sat down, Charles's cold voice came from the back. "Nolan, is this how you handle things?"
Nolan knew he was in for it. Charles was going to pin the blame on him.
But Nolan felt it was unfair. For these all-day reports, he always double-checked any unclear parts before passing them on to Charles.
It wasn't his fault that Charles saw the message, jumped to conclusions, and rushed over!
All in all, it was Charles's fault, the two bodyguards' fault, and Claire's fault for taking his phone.
He was innocent, so why was he getting blamed?
But thinking of the even more unfortunate Diana, Nolan took a deep breath and kept his cool.
He gripped the steering wheel and said quietly, "It's my fault, Mr. Percy. Next time, I'll make sure everything is arranged properly. This won't happen again."
Charles leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes. The matter was settled, and he didn't want to say more.
"Those two useless ones don't need to go to the hospital anymore."
"Okay, Mr. Percy, I'll fire them immediately."
"Wait, keep one of them."
Charles suddenly spoke, though he didn't specify which one.
But Nolan immediately understood that Jett's job was safe. "So, Mr. Percy, what are we doing now?"
Charles looked up, saying, "What was originally planned for today?"
Nolan checked the schedule and replied, "This afternoon, you have a meeting with Mr. Warner from BlueSky Technologies Ltd. at Mirage Nights Club."
Charles nodded slightly, his voice calm. "Then let's go to Mirage Nights Club."
Their eyes met in the rearview mirror, and Nolan quickly looked away and started the car. "Yes."
Isolde drove Diana to the entrance of Grace General Hospital, owned by the Percy Group.
Due to the earlier incident, the three of them hadn't spoken much on the way.
When Diana got out of the car, Isolde suddenly grabbed her hand apologetically and said in a low voice, "I'm sorry, Diana. I shouldn't have made that joke."
Diana was stunned for a moment before realizing what she was talking about.
"Isolde, why are you blaming yourself? This has nothing to do with you. If we should blame someone, it's Charles. It's really not your fault, and I thought the joke was funny."
After saying that, Diana gave her a sly smile and patted her hand.
"Don't worry, with my abilities, I'll escape from him soon. I'm just biding my time!"
Seeing that she was really okay, Isolde breathed a sigh of relief.
She reluctantly said, "Stay in touch with me. If you need anything, just let me know. I wonder if anyone can come to see you?"
Evelyn also comforted her, saying, "Don't worry, I'll take good care of Ms. Spencer."
The three of them said their goodbyes downstairs for a while, with Brenda watching from upstairs.
Indeed, pregnant women felt better after going out and having fun. Keeping a good mood was important for the baby's healthy development.
Seeing Diana and Evelyn coming upstairs, Brenda immediately went to the ward door to wait.
But when Diana and Evelyn arrived, they both had very grim expressions.
"Hello, did you have fun today?"
Faced with Brenda's enthusiastic greeting, only Evelyn politely nodded in response.
Diana and Evelyn entered the ward without a word, slamming the door shut.
The force was so strong it felt like the wall was about to shake.
Brenda stood at the door, her hand still raised in greeting.
What happened to them? Why were they angrier after going out?
Even in the first few days, Diana wasn't this angry.
Brenda frowned, thinking about knocking on the door.
But seeing Diana's current state, she decided to find an opportunity to ask Evelyn instead.
Night rolled in, and the Mirage Nights Club lit up with vibrant lights and thumping music. The place was buzzing, filled with the clinking of glasses and lively chatter.
Guys and gals were all over the dance floor, moving to the beat.
Charles and Nolan pushed through the noisy crowd and slipped into a private room.
Inside, besides the standing waiter, there were two guys and a girl lounging on the sofa. The guy with the girl in his arms was someone Nolan knew—Eugene.
But tonight, they were supposed to meet Lyle Warner from BlueSky Technologies Ltd. What was Eugene doing here?
