Chapter 215 Heavy Heart

Leaving Sunset Hamlet, Diana made her way back to The Percy Mansion.

Jacob had been worried when he saw Charles storm off earlier, thinking they might have another fight.

But when Diana stepped out of the car with a smile, he felt a wave of relief.

Even though Charles looked serious, he seemed calm enough.

"Jacob, I found a puppy." Diana, carrying a box, immediately wanted to show Jacob the puppy.

Jacob felt a bit anxious and glanced at Charles.

Seeing Charles head upstairs quickly, Jacob realized it was a silent approval.

"Ms. Spencer, you and Mr. Percy?" His voice was full of confusion, not sure what had happened between them.

This was one of the rare peaceful moments since they had been together.

Diana thought he was asking about the puppy and said, "Charles agreed, but we can't keep the dog for long. Once I find someone to adopt it, it'll go."

Jacob was quiet for a moment, feeling a bit hopeful.

This was a good start; maybe they could get along better in the future.

Jacob looked at the box and said, "Ms. Spencer, you have a good eye. This isn't just any dog."

"Really? What kind of dog?" Diana raised an eyebrow. The little white dog seemed ordinary except for being cute. She didn't know how Jacob could tell.

"Country folks know this dog is a Husky. When it grows up, it's great for guarding the house." Jacob smiled.

He had seen this kind of dog in the countryside as a kid and was surprised Diana had picked one up.

"A Husky, huh? That's a pretty cool breed." Diana wanted to pet its head again, but Jacob stopped her.

"Ms. Spencer, this dog is dirty and hasn't been vaccinated. I'll have someone take care of it before bringing it back to you. Since you're pregnant, it's best to avoid contact."

Jacob wouldn't compromise on anything related to the baby's health.

She had heard this kind of talk several times today and wasn't annoyed, nodding, "Alright, thank you, Jacob."

"No trouble at all."

Diana wasn't too thrilled living at The Percy Mansion, but having a little pet to cheer her up wasn't bad. Jacob naturally went along with her.

The puppy was taken away, and soon after, Brenda arrived.

She was carrying a medical kit, panting, clearly having rushed over.

But seeing Diana's rosy complexion, she raised an eyebrow.

Ten minutes ago, when Charles called, she was still eating.

His voice was unsettling, he just said, "Come over and check on Diana."

Then he hung up.

Charles's words left Brenda puzzled, making her think something was wrong with Diana.

She rushed over with her medical kit, only to find that it was nothing serious.

"Dr. Ramos, why are you here?" Diana touched her face. She had been feeling well recently.

"I'd like to know that too." Brenda put down the medical kit in a huff; since she was here, she decided to give Diana a check-up, who complied and sat down.

Brenda started with a physical examination, then began to stroke her nonexistent beard.

It was said that her great-grandfather was a bearded senior doctor, and stroking like this could borrow some of his medical talent.

The first time Diana saw Brenda do that, she thought she was nuts.

Now, watching her do it again, Diana found it kind of funny.

After a bit, Brenda stopped and said, "The baby's doing fine, but your body was really weak before. Don't forget to take your folic acid."

Diana nodded. The baby had always been easygoing and never gave her trouble.

"But..." Brenda hesitated, "Your stress levels are way too high. If it keeps up, you could end up with postpartum depression."

Diana raised an eyebrow, surprised Brenda could tell.

She had never been truly happy at The Percy Mansion. Now she wanted to completely escape from Charles and had a lot of plans to make. How could she not be stressed?

Brenda looked around to make sure no one else was around, then said, "Ms. Spencer, we're about the same age. Even though I work for Mr. Percy, I like you. So I'll be straight with you."

Diana blinked, not sure what Brenda was getting at.

"Mr. Percy has a bad temper, is rude, always looks like someone owes him, and exploits his employees. But..." Brenda listed Charles's flaws, then changed her tone.

"But he's very handsome and rich. He cares about you. Ms. Spencer, why not think about being a rich wife again? You could spend his money freely every day."

Diana laughed. She usually brushed off such advice because no one really understood her situation.

But Brenda's words were so funny. She didn't see Diana being with Charles as marrying up; she thought Charles was the lucky one, given his temper that few women could tolerate.

"Dr. Ramos, it seems like you know Mr. Percy's strengths very well and have quite a few ideas. Why don't you give it a shot?"

As soon as Diana said that, Brenda quickly shook her head, looking horrified.

She didn't want to get involved in any messy rich-people drama.

With her own situation, she could easily afford to keep a young, handsome college student. She'd have to be crazy to be into Charles.

Brenda looked up and saw Diana smiling at her. She suddenly realized Diana had said it on purpose.

If she didn't want him, why would a wealthy woman like Diana?

Brenda sighed and took out a pack of herbs from her medical kit.

"Ms. Spencer, I talked too much. This will help you sleep better. I'll give it to the servants. Drink a cup before bed."

Diana nodded with a smile, listening to Brenda's repeated advice for pregnant women before seeing her off.

Meanwhile, Charles, looking at Brenda's report, frowned slightly.

The baby was fine, but what was Diana thinking about all day?

Was staying at The Percy Mansion making her that unhappy?

His phone buzzed twice, a message from Nolan.

Nolan: [Mr. Percy, the auction house has sent the necklace. How should we handle it?]

Charles pursed his lips, thought for a moment, and made a call.

Nolan, at the Percy Group, was working when he sent the message. The sudden call startled him, almost making him drop his pen. "Mr. Percy. What's up?"

Charles's voice was flat, asking an unrelated question, "When is the Richardson family's banquet?"

Nolan was confused but checked the time and answered, "This Sunday."
