Chapter 239 Mistaken Identity
Feeling the increasing number of eyes on her, Sabrina couldn't help but smirk.
Garry's connections were really paying off. Other women wouldn't dare approach Charles, but she did.
When Sabrina first met Charles, Garry had encouraged her to win him over.
But she lost interest after being rejected a few times despite her advances.
Sabrina had grown up spoiled and adored, with plenty of admirers.
Even if the Percy family was powerful, she wasn't going to waste her sincerity on cold indifference.
But now, seeing Charles's handsome face in front of her again, she felt a flutter of excitement.
A handsome guy she couldn't have—just talking to him was a win.
With that in mind, Sabrina took the initiative and said, "Charles, Noah's got a date, and I'm all alone. I see you're by yourself too. How about we keep each other company?"
Charles frowned slightly and replied, "I have a date. She's just not here yet."
Being rejected didn't faze Sabrina much; she was used to it.
But her curiosity quickly got the better of her, and she couldn't help but ask, "Charles, who is your date? Can I wait with you?"
Charles's mouth twitched almost imperceptibly. He really wanted Noah to take Sabrina away.
But the next moment, a gentle female voice came from beside him, "Charles, you're here."
Sabrina turned her head sharply, her eyes widening instantly. 'Isn't this the girl from the styling room?'
Her gaze shifted between the two, and she suddenly realized, "Charles, is this your date? What a coincidence, we've met before!"
Claire looked equally surprised, covering her mouth in astonishment, "It's you."
Sabrina nodded, suddenly losing interest. Charles's date was just average, not even as pretty as Diana.
Since she had seen Charles' date, Sabrina didn't want to stay any longer. "I won't bother you two. I'll go find Noah."
Claire was taken aback. She had initially seen Sabrina as a competitor.
Why did Sabrina leave after just a few words?
Charles stood behind her, his tone cold, "Why are you here?"
The Murphy family's business wasn't even in Evergreen City, and Vance's invitation wouldn't have reached that far. The only possibility was Elise's assistance.
Thinking of this, Charles's eyes filled with disdain.
Claire panicked and quickly explained, "My family sent me. They said if I wanted to develop in Evergreen City, I needed to build more connections. I can't rely solely on you, so I got the invitation from Aunt Elise."
Her explanation was half-true, but Charles snorted and didn't bother questioning further.
He walked straight to the center of the banquet hall. He was here to check on the progress.
After working with Vance for so long, if Billy still wasn't behaving, he would have to step in.
Seeing Charles leave, Claire bit her lip and quickly followed. As long as she wasn't kicked out, she still had a chance.
To outsiders, the two walking one behind the other looked like a couple.
Vance was originally seated at the head table, surrounded by business and political figures who had gathered to celebrate his birthday.
His usually stern face now wore a rare smile, showing a bit of warmth.
But the harmonious atmosphere was soon disrupted by Charles.
Dressed in black, with a cold, arrogant smile, he said indifferently, "Mr. Richardson, happy birthday."
Vance stiffened. Although he had invited Charles, he still felt nervous in his presence.
Not just him, but the faces of those around him also darkened a bit.
"What? Not happy to see me?" Charles asked coldly, finding a seat for himself.
Claire stood obediently behind him, looking more like a servant than a date.
Vance forced a laugh and quickly denied, "Of course, we're happy. It's an honor to have you here, Mr. Percy."
"Mr. Richardson invited me, so naturally, I had to come." His words showed some respect for the Richardson family.
Others relaxed a bit and started chatting with Charles.
But it was more like they were trying to please him, as Charles spoke very little, only occasionally saying a few words.
Claire stood behind him, her heart racing.
This was the man she admired, standing at the pinnacle of his profession.
Even just sitting there, doing nothing, he commanded the respect of countless people. His brows were furrowed with irritation, and no one dared to approach him.
But soon, Charles grew tired of the conversation and stood up to get some fresh air.
As Charles reached the door, the cold wind hit him. He took out his phone and called Nolan.
The call was quickly answered, but Nolan's hesitant tone suggested he had bad news. "Mr. Percy..."
"Where's Diana?"
"Sorry, Mr. Percy, I couldn't reach Ms. Spencer. She left early. I had a bodyguard check, and he said Ms. Spencer is at..."
Sensing Nolan hesitate, Charles's expression darkened further. "Nolan, if you keep talking like this, you won't be working for me anymore."
"No, Mr. Percy, I'll tell you! Ms. Spencer is at Homestead Sunset Valley. I'm on my way there now. Please don't be angry!"
Before Nolan could finish, the call ended abruptly.
Charles could already guess what was happening.
His face darkened even more. Diana had already arrived at Homestead Sunset Valley?
Claire had gotten into the party with Elise's invitation.
But Diana? Was it Billy?
A sense of betrayal washed over him. He had thought that with a child, they could coexist peacefully.
He had been willing to treat her well, but the truth had hit him hard.
How ridiculous! He had actually tried to please a woman?
Diana dared to play him, and the Richardson family dared to play him.
"Fine. Just perfect." Charles smirked, his chest heaving with emotion.
Suddenly, a familiar male voice reached his ears. "Watch your step; it's a bit dark here."
In an instant, Charles recognized Billy's voice.
He turned his head and saw Billy with a woman who was slender, with long hair covering most of her face. She was wearing a man's coat.
His suspicion confirmed, Charles felt a storm of anger brewing inside him.
His face turned dark, fists clenched, on the verge of exploding.
"Diana!" Charles roared.
Billy and the woman finally noticed him.
Before they could react, she was grabbed by the arm and pulled over.
Wearing high heels, she lost her balance and fell to the ground, looking quite pathetic.
Billy quickly tried to help her up.
But Charles shoved him aside with one hand and bent down to grab the woman's chin.
Chloe's face was streaked with tears, her makeup smudged, looking pitiful.
Through her tear-filled eyes, she could barely see Charles's face, but she swore she would make him pay.
