Chapter 106 Dare to Compare?
"Ms. Spencer, the company's a mess right now, you gotta come back ASAP!" Diana barely picked up the phone when she heard Lily's frantic voice.
"What happened?" Diana's brow furrowed. She'd only been away for a few days, and things were already falling apart.
Lily's voice dropped to a whisper, like she was sneaking a call. "Ms. Spencer, Axel and Calliope from the other team got into it. Then Ms. Williams showed up and wants to fire Calliope. Coralie tried to step in, but it's still a mess."
Diana's frown deepened. "I'm on my way. Tell Calliope to keep her cool."
Lily nodded, feeling a bit better knowing Diana was coming.
Robert and Evelyn noticed Diana's worried look and got concerned. "What's going on?"
Diana's face was tight, thinking these folks just wouldn't let her catch a break.
"I gotta head to the office. You two watch Isolde and Cecil." With that, Diana walked out, leaving them standing there, stunned.
It took Robert a second to snap out of it, then he ran after her.
At the Spencer Group, the office was super tense.
Diana's team, led by Calliope, was getting chewed out by Clara's team.
The drama kicked off about an hour ago.
Calliope was setting up the lighting and props in the live streaming room when Axel barged in, saying his team needed the space.
Both teams had the same number of live streaming rooms, so naturally, Calliope wasn't about to give it up, and they started arguing.
It was just words at first, but then Clara showed up, saw the fight, and decided to throw her weight around, threatening to fire Calliope.
But Diana's team wasn't about to be pushed around. To them, Diana was the real boss.
They only pretended to respect Clara. If she wanted to push her luck, she could forget it.
So, a few hotheads from the team stood up for Calliope.
This made Clara furious. She'd been busy with live streaming and had met some rich folks willing to spend on her, so she was in a good mood.
But as soon as she got to the office, Diana's team ruined it. So Clara immediately pulled rank as the general manager and insisted on firing Calliope.
Even Coralie, who tried to mediate, got shoved aside.
The scene was total chaos.
"Ms. Williams, I'm Ms. Spencer's employee. You can't fire me!" Calliope's eyes were red with stubbornness as she stared at the perfectly made-up Clara.
Clara looked at her nails, bored. "How many times do I have to say it? I don't care whose employee you are. I'm the boss, got it? I represent the Percy Group. What do you have to say about that?"
Coralie spoke carefully, "Ms. Williams, we have separate personnel arrangements. Let's wait for Ms. Spencer to handle it."
The implication was clear: even if Clara wanted to fire Calliope, she'd have to wait for Diana.
"What do you mean? You think I can't make decisions for the company?" Clara glared at Coralie, making her step back in fear.
Seeing this, Axel said, "Ms. Williams, maybe we should just drop it. We don't need that live streaming room. We can set up another one."
"What do you mean by that? It was ours to begin with!" Calliope snapped when she saw Axel playing the victim.
The hotheads from the team chimed in, "You started this, and now you're playing the victim? What a joke."
Their words were blunt, showing no intention of giving Axel any face.
Axel's face tightened, and he shot back, "It's all company property. We just wanted to borrow it for a bit."
"Really? Just borrowing it?"
"Of course!" Axel replied quickly, but then realized the voice wasn't Calliope's.
Everyone turned to the door, drawn by the voice.
Diana, with Robert right behind her, walked in with a commanding presence, stopping right in front of Clara and glaring at her without hesitation. "What? Ms. Williams, taking advantage of my absence to target my people? We don't have many people in our team, no need for your concern!"
With that, Diana pushed Calliope back into her seat and continued to confront Clara.
Seeing Diana, Clara felt a bit guilty. "Why are you here?"
"Why can't I be here? After all, I am one of the company leaders," Diana's tone was sharp as she continued, "You want to fire my employee? What has Calliope done to harm the company's interests?"
Seeing Clara being questioned, Axel didn't want to miss this chance to show his loyalty, so he spoke up, "Ms. Spencer, the company's resources are shared, right? We wanted to use the live streaming room, and Calliope wouldn't let us, which made Ms. Williams angry."
Hearing Axel's words, Calliope stood up again in anger, "The live streaming rooms were already allocated. I set up the props and lighting, and we have a usage plan. You can't just take it whenever you want."
Diana's tone grew colder. "Company resources are indeed shared, so why don't you give up one of your rooms for me to use? I suddenly feel like live streaming today."
Hearing Diana's words, Clara got excited, "What a joke! You want to live stream? Do you even know how? What? In just a few days, you've mastered live streaming skills and dare to compete with me? Have you forgotten who taught you your current promotional methods?"
Diana originally just wanted Axel to apologize.
She didn't expect Clara to challenge her to a live streaming competition, thinking it was amusing.
It seemed Clara's live streaming career had been very successful recently, which was why she was eager to provoke.
Clara raised her chin slightly and said proudly, "What? Afraid to compete?"
Diana crossed her arms and raised her tone. "Of course not. What if you lose?"
Clara, feeling confident, said, "Then I will no longer interfere with company matters. But if I win, you have to fire her and listen to me from now on."
No one expected Clara to bet so big, and everyone became nervous.
Diana didn't hesitate much and immediately agreed. "Alright, I hope you won't regret it."
The office atmosphere was filled with tension.
Clara tilted her head slightly and said to Axel, "Go prepare."
Then she turned to Diana and said, "To be fair, we'll both start live streaming with new accounts. At three o'clock, we'll start on time and see who gets more viewers. I hope you'll honor the bet."
Diana raised an eyebrow. "We'll see."
A live streaming competition with their futures on the line. She could only win, not lose.
As soon as they separated, both sides started rallying support.
Diana didn't contact Isolde, who was in the hospital taking care of Cecil. It wasn't appropriate to disturb her with this.
So Diana asked Billy to support her, promising to cover all expenses afterward.
Seeing her busy sending messages, Robert felt worried. "Can you do it? Ms. Williams seems very confident. I checked her recent live streaming performance, and it's been excellent. Even without the company's support, she's already a very successful streamer."
Diana shook her head, "Success depends on whether she has the financial supports. Don't forget, I have it."
While Diana was rallying support, Clara wasn't idle either.
