Chapter 64 Premeditation
Isolde never thought Charles could be such a jerk. She snapped, "That bastard! Diana, I'm with you on this. We gotta look out for ourselves first, before anything else."
Diana nodded, deciding to wait until she felt better before scheduling the abortion. As they left the department, they didn't notice Mia watching them from afar.
Ever since those three old employees came back, Nathan hadn't slept well. His old health issues flared up again, giving him nasty headaches. Mia even had to get him some meds from the hospital.
Over at the Williams Villa, since Diana hadn't shown up at work for a few days, Clara's focus had slipped too. She'd been busting her butt since she joined the company and couldn't stand the idea of losing to Diana, who was often slacking off. Right now, Clara was in the study with Nathan, going over the info from the private detective.
"Dad, we should zero in on this Saskia. Let's start with her, what do you think?" Clara pointed at Saskia's picture in the documents, her face lighting up with excitement. She thought, 'Diana, you're such an idiot. You should've kept this hidden instead of waving it around to piss me off.'
Nathan might have looked kind and honest, but his words were sharp. "We can hire someone off the Dark Web. There are always people willing to take the job for the right price. Life is cheap to them."
Clara nodded. She'd never been involved in anything like this before. After Diana had her thrown in jail, Clara had developed a grudging respect for the law. But Nathan's ruthless approach gave her a thrill, making her feel like she was bending the rules to her will.
"We need to handle this fast. The longer those three stay in the company, the greater the threat they pose to us," Nathan said, rubbing his temples as his headache worsened.
Just then, Mia rushed back home. After asking the servants, she found out that Nathan and Clara were in the study, so she rushed in.
As Clara and Nathan were talking, Mia burst in without knocking, startling them both.Clara complained, "Mom! What are you doing? You scared us!"
Nathan, seeing Mia panting and looking worried, guessed something was up. "What's wrong, Mia? Take a breath and tell us."
Mia took a deep breath and spilled everything she saw at the hospital. "What?" Clara slammed the table and stood up, her voice going high-pitched. "No way! Mom, you must've seen it wrong. Just because she went to gynecology doesn't mean she's pregnant, right?"
Mia frowned, looking serious. "I didn't see it wrong. She came out of gynecology with another woman, and she kept touching her belly. As a mother myself, I know what those gestures and expressions mean."
Clara was stunned. 'Charles hates Diana guts; how could he have slept with her?'
Mia continued, "If this kid is born and it's a boy, Diana will go back to the Percy Mansion. Not just that, but this kid will be the future heir of the Percy Family. We'll be in big trouble then."
Nathan's face darkened. Now he had two big problems on his hands, and he didn't know what to do. But Diana was still his daughter. If the kid was born, as the grandfather, maybe...
Seeing Nathan silent, Mia knew he was thinking about his bond with Diana. She continued, her voice shaky and eyes red, "What are we gonna do, honey? Diana kicked us out and doesn't see us as family. If she becomes Mrs. Percy and comes after us, what then?"
Nathan snapped out of it, remembering that Diana wasn't close to him. The child in her belly was a treasure to the Percy Family but a ticking time bomb for them. "Get rid of it. This child cannot be born," he said coldly. Then he turned to Clara, "You're with Charles every day. Why can't you have a child like Diana? Charles even hates you."
Clara was livid, practically grinding her teeth. "Who knows how she seduced him? Charles doesn't even touch women. What if the child isn't Charles'?"
This left Nathan and Mia stunned. They had assumed from the start that Charles was the father. But who knew if Diana had other men?
Nathan cut in, "It doesn't matter whose child it is; it can't be born. We can't wait until the child is born to do a DNA test. By then, it will be too late!"
Mia nodded, agreeing with Nathan. "Yes, we can't take that risk. Clara, you need to find out if she's really pregnant. If she is, we need to act fast." Clara, though conflicted, eventually agreed.
Nathan looked down at the documents in his hand and said in a deep voice, "I'll handle the company's matters. You take care of this child." The room fell into an eerie silence as they each got lost in their thoughts.
Over at the Spencer Villa, Diana stayed in the hospital for three days before heading home. She planned to schedule the abortion in the next couple of days, but others suggested she wait a bit longer to fully recover. They said it was better for her health.
Diana thought they had a point. Besides, she hadn't attended to Spencer Group matters for the past few days, so she decided to catch up on work first. Since she was pregnant, Isolde suggested she work from home to avoid any accidents. Evelyn was by her side, taking care of her.
But Diana felt they were overreacting. From the time she got pregnant until now, the child had been through a lot with her. She had been choked, beaten, forced to kneel, and even fell into the water and caught a cold, yet the child showed no reaction.
Diana even suspected that if she hadn't gone to the hospital for a fever, she might not have known she was pregnant until she had a baby bump. But staying at home didn't affect her work efficiency, so Diana didn't refuse and continued working from home.
Meanwhile, Clara couldn't sit still. Since learning that Diana might be pregnant, she woke up early and stayed up late every day, going to the company early to keep an eye out, hoping to find out the truth. But even with dark circles under her eyes, Clara hadn't seen Diana.
When she asked Coralie, she found out that Diana was working from home. "What! I come to work every day, and she gets to work from home?" Clara's voice was sharp and high-pitched, torturing Coralie's eardrums.
Coralie said, "Ms. Williams, Diana is here as a substitute for another manager, so her situation is special. I have no authority over her. If you want to work from home, that's totally fine." Coralie smiled politely.
Clara's face turned red, and she decided to go to the Spencer Villa to find Diana herself. Besides protecting the pregnancy, Clara couldn't think of any other reason that would keep Diana at home.
