Chapter 508 Kidnapping
As Charles blended into the crowd, Diana turned to Benjamin and asked, "So, did you have fun today?"
"Yeah, I did!" Benjamin wrapped his arms around Diana's, tilting his head and snuggling up to her.
"I wish it could always be like this, Mommy. You used to be so busy and didn't have time for me. I like this birthday gift way more than any jewels."
Diana playfully tapped his nose, pretending to be annoyed. "I have a busy job, you little rascal. All you think about is playing."
They both burst into laughter and started playfully teasing each other.
After about ten minutes, Benjamin started to get a bit anxious and couldn't help but peek in the direction of the ice cream truck.
"Mommy, why isn't Mr. Percy back yet? What if my ice cream melts? It won't taste good then."
"Maybe he's stuck in line. It's hot out, and everyone wants ice cream," Diana replied, not too worried.
She rested her chin on her hand, her elbow propped on the back of the bench, staring off towards the Ferris wheel.
But after a few more minutes, Charles still hadn't returned.
Benjamin couldn't sit still any longer. He tugged on Diana's hand, urging, "Mommy, let's go find him. Maybe he got lost, and that's why he's taking so long."
Charles, getting lost? Diana found the idea absurd. "I'm not going anywhere. It's nice and cool here. He'll be back soon."
"The ice cream truck is just over there. Let's just go check," Benjamin pleaded, his big, round eyes looking like a puppy's.
Diana, unable to resist his persistence, finally relented. "Fine! We'll go. Stop whining."
Just as they stood up to head towards the ice cream truck, two men in black suits appeared out of nowhere. They wore sunglasses and approached them respectfully.
"Excuse us, but we need you to come with us," one of them said.
Diana paused, confused. Were these Charles's men? Why were they here?
She vaguely remembered the men who usually watched over her, but these two were new faces.
Sensing her hesitation, one of them explained, "Mrs. Percy, Mr. Percy received an important call and had to attend to some urgent matters. He didn't want to leave you waiting, so he sent us to bring you back."
"Back? No way!" Benjamin protested loudly before Diana could respond.
He had been looking forward to this outing and wasn't ready to end it. "It's my birthday! You have to listen to me!"
The men in black exchanged glances. The one who hadn't spoken yet said sternly, "This is Mr. Percy's order. Please cooperate."
"Please, Mrs. Percy, we're just doing our job," the other one added, trying to be more persuasive.
Diana waved her hand dismissively. "Fine, we'll go. Lead the way."
"But..."
Benjamin tried to argue, but Diana took his hand, cutting him off.
"It's hot today. Going home early isn't so bad. We can have cake. You were looking forward to that, right?" Diana said, trying to soothe him.
Benjamin wasn't easily convinced, but seeing the burly men in black, he knew they couldn't run away. Reluctantly, he followed along.
For a moment, he forgot all the kindness Charles had shown him over the past two days.
He would no longer be fooled by this bad Charles!
"We'll lead the way. Please follow us and don't keep Mr. Percy waiting."
After saying this, one of the men in black started leading the way, while the other waited for them to follow before silently standing behind them to ensure they didn't fall behind.
As they left, Charles hurried back, holding two ice creams, a smile on his face. The heat had caused the ice cream to melt slightly, losing its perfect shape.
He looked around, but the bench was empty. His smile faded as he scanned the area, seeing only unfamiliar faces.
His brow furrowed as the melting ice cream dripped onto his hand, sticky and unpleasant.
He tossed both ice creams into the trash and wiped his hands with a wet wipe, deep in thought.
Where could they have gone? Did Diana take Benjamin to another ride, or had they run away again?
The latter thought made his heart sink. If she had run, he couldn't guarantee what he might do when he found her.
With a cold expression, he threw the wipe into the trash and pulled out his phone to call Diana.
The call went unanswered, and when he tried again, it went straight to voicemail.
A sense of betrayal and anger welled up inside him, as if his heart had been split in two.
---
Diana couldn't believe the situation they were in. They had been kidnapped.
She had thought they were heading back to the city center, but the men in black had tied them up tightly.
It was her first time in such a predicament. She instinctively reached for Benjamin's hand, trying to keep him calm.
Despite his young age, Benjamin remained composed, waiting for Diana's next move.
The rough rope around her wrists had already cut into her skin, leaving bloody marks.
One of the men in black, with a sinister smile, reached out to touch Diana's face. The touch was as repulsive as a snake's slithering tongue.
"She's really pretty. Makes me itch to touch her," he said.
The driver glared at him. "We're just supposed to deliver them. If you mess with her and something goes wrong, I can't cover for you."
"We're not there yet. What's the harm in a little touch?" he replied, moving his hand towards Diana's chest.
But the next moment, a scream erupted from the back seat, startling the driver.
Diana had bitten down hard on the man's finger, almost as if she wanted to bite it off.
Behind her, Benjamin's eyes were blazing with anger. "Don't touch her! I'll kill you! I'll kill you all!"
"I told you not to mess with her! Let go, you crazy woman, or I'll dislocate your jaw!" the driver shouted, unable to help his partner.
The man tried to free his hand, but Diana's grip was unyielding. In desperation, he raised his other hand and slapped her hard across the face.
