Chapter 214 Farewell

Seeing that he wasn't going to budge, Diana decided not to waste any more breath on him.

She yanked her arm free from Charles's grip and said coolly, "Fine, I'll deal with this dog my way. Don't worry, I won't bring it into The Percy Mansion."

Charles frowned, "What are you planning to do?"

"I'll ask my friends if they can take it in. Mr. Percy, I do have friends, you know." She wasn't about to hide it; Charles could find out even if she didn't say anything.

She didn't trust strangers, so she could only ask Robert and Isolde. Maybe Billy could help, though he might be too busy to take care of a pet.

Friends? Hearing this, a few faces popped into Charles's mind.

For some reason, Billy's face was the one he couldn't shake off.

Billy's words from before still echoed in his mind.

Charles's expression darkened, and he sneered, "Taking in a dog is just an excuse; you really want to see a man."

Unfortunately for Billy, he wouldn't be in the picture for long.

Charles would never let another man come between him and Diana.

Seeing Charles start with his nonsense again, she took a deep breath, trying to keep her cool, and said, "Mr. Percy, it's just a regular puppy. It's not Cupid's arrow."

In other words, she couldn't use this dog to win a man's heart.

As she finished speaking, the puppy on the ground barked, as if agreeing with her.

Diana squatted down, petted the dog's slightly wet nose, and chuckled.

Her gentle expression seemed to calm the furious Charles.

"When we get back, I'll have Jacob clean it up. You can't spend too much time with it every day."

Charles's voice was so low and fast that Diana thought she misheard.

When she looked up at Charles, she only saw his back as he walked out.

Did he just agree to let her keep it?

She thought they were in for another big fight and then a few days of silent treatment. When did he become so agreeable?

At that moment, Evelyn came out, holding a cardboard box from somewhere. "Ms. Spencer, you can put it in here. Mr. Percy doesn't agree to keep it, so we have to send it away."

She felt there was no other choice. Evelyn looked at the dog with a somewhat sad expression.

Diana took the box and placed the dog and the scarf inside.

Her eyes lit up with joy, "It's okay; he already agreed. We can take this puppy home."

Evelyn's eyes lit up immediately, and she couldn't hide her excitement, "Really? But when did Mr. Percy become so agreeable?"

Evelyn, who had been by her side, had the same reaction to this matter.

Diana shook her head, "I don't know, but his temper is always unpredictable."

After a pause, she continued, "Evelyn, we should go back."

They had been here for two days and nights; today was the third day.

Although Evelyn felt a bit regretful, she was very lucky that Diana could come back and stay with her.

It was time for them to return to their original lives.

Thinking of the seemingly free but actually restrictive days at The Percy Mansion, Evelyn couldn't help but sigh, "Okay, Ms. Spencer, I'll go say goodbye to Ms. Hope."

Diana stood up with the box, a light smile on her face, "Let's go together, we need to say goodbye to the children too."

Hearing that they were leaving, Kennedy also felt a bit reluctant. "Come visit us often; the kids and I will miss you."

She hugged Evelyn and wanted to hug Diana too, but seeing the box in her arms, she held back.

Diana noticed and smiled warmly, "Goodbye, Ms. Hope."

After their goodbyes, they stepped outside to find the kids had just finished building a snowman. They were eager to show it off to Diana and Evelyn.

Charles had just complimented their snowman.

Seeing their rosy cheeks and excited eyes, Diana's mood lifted.

She set the box down in the hallway corner and followed the kids outside.

The snowman was a solid 4 feet tall, towering over some of the kids.

A real "snow giant."

Since they couldn't find any branches, the kids used shovels for the snowman's arms.

Its eyes and mouth, seemingly arranged by Ridge, were crooked and funny.

"Diana! How is it? Isn't it super cool?" Willow asked, looking up at her.

Diana smiled and patted her head, "It's very cool; you did an amazing job."

Hearing her praise, Willow beamed. In just two days, she had grown attached to the gentle and beautiful Diana. She wished Diana could stay forever!

But as she was thinking this, Diana bent down and said gently, "Kids, I'm leaving soon. Be good and listen to Ms. Hope, okay?"

The kids were silent for a moment, then someone asked, "Diana, are you going home?"

"Yes, I'm going home."

Someone started crying, and soon the whole front yard was filled with the sound of sobbing.

The kids' cries, some loud and some soft, mixed together, giving everyone a headache.

Diana and Evelyn quickly bent down to comfort them, but as soon as one was calmed, another started crying.

They closed their eyes, finally realizing how tough kids could be.

"Be quiet!" A stern, low voice rang out, startling the crying kids into silence. They turned to look.

Charles stood with his arms crossed, leaning against the door.

Clearly annoyed by the noise, his face looked grim and scary.

"So scary!" The kids huddled together, frightened but finally quiet.

Ridge, still sniffling, held onto Diana's sleeve with teary eyes. "Diana, we don't want you to go."

Diana pressed her lips together and patted his head, "This is your home, and I have to go back to mine. There are people waiting for me at home. If one day you went out and didn't come back, Ms. Hope would be sad too."

Ridge's eyes were confused, but he quickly understood and sighed with unexpected maturity.

"Diana, then you should go home. I'll miss you. You've been away from home for so long, and your family must be worried."

Noticing how understanding he was, Diana smiled, "Yes, my family is worried."

Charles, who had been watching her, felt a sudden pang in his heart.

Who were Diana's family? Bianca had long passed away, and Nathan only cared about his new family.

Charles realized that she usually appeared happy.

But when facing Charles, her eyes were filled with hatred.

Who was the "family" she mentioned?

Hearing Diana's words, Ridge opened his arms to hug her, speaking solemnly, "Goodbye, Diana!"

Then he hugged Evelyn, and even the stern-faced Charles, though he could only hug his leg because of the height difference.

With him leading, the other kids followed suit.

For a moment, the front yard turned into a farewell hug party, especially warm in the winter.
