Chapter 43 Leaving Empty-Handed

Charles got up, stepped away from the chaos, and headed over to Diana. She flinched, thinking he might try to choke her again. Quickly, she defended herself, "I swear, I didn't know you were here. I came with my friend to catch a cheater. Mr. Percy, you would get it, right?"

Charles just snorted but didn't do anything. He'd thought she was following him and was pissed. Now that he knew she wasn't, he felt even more annoyed.

Eugene saw them together and walked over. "Hey, shouldn't we help him out?"

Diana was scared of Charles but not Eugene. She snapped, "Help him? The guy uses his wife's money to support his mistress. Doesn't he deserve a beating?"

Eugene found her bluntness funny, forgetting he wasn't exactly a saint either. He even chimed in, "You're right. Why stop at a slap? Give him a good kick too."

The three of them looked like they were watching a boxing match. Since they weren't the ones fighting, they watched with interest. Eugene, finding Diana amusing, got curious and asked, "What's your name? Are you Charles's girlfriend? Nice pick."

Diana found it odd that Eugene seemed close to Charles but didn't know her. 'Weird,' she thought. 'Charles couldn't wait to announce his divorce to the world the moment it happened.'

"You don't know me? I'm Diana," she said.

Eugene chuckled and put a hand on Charles's shoulder. "We've never met, so how would I know you? Diana? That name rings a bell, like Charles's ex-wife." Suddenly, Eugene's laughter stopped as he realized something. He looked at Diana in shock. "You? You're Diana? How can you be Diana?"

Although Eugene had never met her, he knew what she looked like. He thought Diana was just another gold digger. If he were Charles, he wouldn't have taken her back either.

When Eugene found out Diana was that kind of woman, he felt bad for Charles and introduced him to some beautiful women. But Charles didn't go for it and even punched him, ignoring him for two months.

Seeing Eugene's ghost-like expression, Diana shot back, "If I'm not Diana, then who are you?" She frowned slightly, her lower lip pouting in confusion, looking pretty cute.

Eugene swallowed hard. 'How did she end up like this? Plastic surgery? Even that wouldn't look this good,' he thought.

Charles crossed his arms, watching them interact, feeling uneasy. He raised his hand to separate them.

But Diana noticed Finnian starting to fight back against Isolde. She grabbed a bottle and walked over, smashing it on Finnian's back, making him cry out in pain.

The next second, Isolde took control. The two women beat Finnian until he was black and blue, no longer daring to fight back.

Eugene still wasn't convinced and asked, "Are you sure this is Diana?"

Charles silently snorted, which was as good as a yes. The more Eugene looked at Diana, the more he felt she was different from before. She was a real character, which he liked.

So Eugene said, "You two are divorced, so you wouldn't mind if I went after her, right?" He rubbed his chin with one hand, his eyes fixed on Diana.

Charles frowned. "Out of all the women you could have, you pick her? Hands off Diana. If she ends up with you, I'll have to go easy on her."

Eugene nodded, remembering how much Charles disliked Diana. He dropped the idea, but his eyes still lingered on her.

Charles's Adam's apple bobbed. He wasn't sure if his earlier words had any hidden meaning. Honestly, even if Diana pissed him off, he wouldn't let her off just for the sake of so-called friends.

Meanwhile, Finnian was barely conscious from the beating, and Isolde finally let him go. She then turned her attention to the secretary cowering in the corner. The secretary trembled as Isolde approached. But Isolde just walked up and slapped her, then stopped. "Shameless!" she said.

The secretary covered her face and sat on the ground, feeling a surge of anger. "Finnian and I are true love. You stole him from me! How dare you hit me?"

Isolde, who was about to leave, suddenly stopped and turned back. "Do you know why I only slapped you once? Because my husband cheated, I blame him for not controlling himself. If a man changes his heart, he can accept anyone."

Isolde slowly approached the secretary and continued, "You say you two are true love. Then why didn't I see you when Finnian and I were dating and getting married? If you love him so much, why weren't you with him then?"

Isolde reached out and slapped the secretary again. "I was actually too lenient. How dare such a shameless person judge me?"

The secretary didn't dare to speak anymore, afraid of provoking her and getting beaten again. Diana watched from the side, feeling extremely satisfied! After beating Finnian and the secretary, Isolde felt much of her pent-up frustration dissipate.

Looking at Finnian on the couch, Isolde exhaled deeply. "Tomorrow, I'll have the lawyer send you the divorce papers. After you sign, I'll give you three days. You and your parents get out of my house."

Finnian lay there, gasping for breath, his speech slurred. But upon hearing about the divorce, he immediately began to plead. "Honey, honey, I was wrong. Please forgive me. I can't live without you. And the child, yes! You can't let the child grow up without a father. He's still so young."

Diana, afraid that Isolde would be swayed by Finnian's words, immediately spoke up, "Just a child, it's not like she can't afford to raise him. Isolde is still young, and there are plenty of men out there for her to choose from. Why settle for you? If the kid knew he had a cheating father, he'd be ashamed to death!"

Isolde closed her eyes, tears slowly streaming down. She wasn't sad; she was angry at herself for being too naive and trusting in a man's love.

Isolde's voice was choked with emotion but resolute. "The child will be better off with me. I want a divorce. You won't take anything with you. Finnian, you'll soon be free to be with your true love." With that, Isolde left without looking back, afraid that she would cry more if she stayed any longer.

Diana was about to chase after her, afraid Isolde might do something rash, but Charles blocked her way. She didn't want to argue with him and said impatiently, "What do you want? I told you I'm not here for you. Let me out!"

Charles stared into Diana's eyes and slowly said, "Diana, are you bad luck or what? You've injured my business partners twice, once Matthew, and now Finnian."
