Chapter 252 Recording

Charles clutched his phone, realizing the call had ended a while ago.

Diana's words still echoed in his mind, leaving him completely shattered.

Just yesterday, they were hugging, kissing, making love.

'Aren't women supposed to be emotional? Why is Diana so cold?' he thought.

It felt like a knife had been plunged into his heart, a lump stuck in his throat, making it hard to breathe.

He lowered his hand, staring blankly at the name on the screen.

This was the first time she had called him.

He stood at the entrance of the CEO's office, his figure exuding a sense of desolation.

"Clara! I told you, without an appointment, you can't go in! Mr. Percy will be furious!"

Suddenly, a commotion erupted near the staircase.

"Please, Abigail, for old times' sake, let me in. I really need to see him!"

Clara's voice was pleading. She had managed to sneak up here and was determined to see Charles.

But Abigail was resolute, blocking her path with outstretched arms.

"No way, I'm not risking my job. You need to leave now. If Mr. Smith comes, he won't be so kind."

Clara bowed her head, begging, when suddenly her eyes lit up, and she blurted out, "Mr. Percy!"

Abigail's expression remained stern as she replied, "Clara, I'm not an idiot. Mr. Percy is in a meeting right now."

But soon, a deep voice came from behind, "What's all the noise?"

Abigail's eyebrows shot up as she turned to see Charles standing behind her with a serious expression.

She felt a bit embarrassed and quickly explained, "Mr. Percy, Ms. Williams somehow got up here. I'll escort her out right away."

She moved to grab Clara's arm, dragging her towards the elevator.

Clara hadn't expected to see Charles under such circumstances. She had hoped to rely on their past relationship to get his help, but it seemed impossible now.

As Abigail pulled Clara away, Charles turned to leave.

But after taking just two steps, a hysterical scream erupted from behind, "Why did you just abandon me like that? I loved the Percy Group so much, worked as a secretary for so long, and you just fired me?"

Abigail felt awkward, almost wanting to cover Clara's mouth.

Did she really not understand why she was let go?

How had she never noticed Clara was so clueless?

Charles didn't stop walking. He didn't care what Clara said. The Percy Group had fired many people; she was no different.

But the shouting continued, "Diana, that selfish woman, she's gone mad. Our whole family is going to jail because of her."

Then, her tone shifted to pleading, "Please, Mr. Percy, help my father. Only you can help us now."

Tears streamed down her face, making her look pitiful.

Something in her words made Charles stop. He turned and asked, "What did Diana do?"

Clara gritted her teeth and continued, "She sent my father to prison, ignoring their bond. Mr. Percy, why keep such a woman around? She doesn't appreciate you at all!"

Abigail stood by, wide-eyed and shocked by Clara's words.

Charles's face darkened as he suddenly said, "Come with me."

He turned and walked towards his office, leaving Abigail and Clara stunned.

Clara quickly realized Charles was willing to talk to her. She broke free from Abigail's grip and followed him into the office.

"Mr. Percy, thanks for hearing me out. I really appreciate it."

Charles's expression was cold, his tone flat, "Just tell me, what did Diana do?"

Clara hesitated, unsure of his intentions, but she complied, "Diana sent my father to prison. She doesn't care about us at all."

She pulled out her phone, unlocked it, and played a recording of a conversation with Diana.

Diana's voice was carefree and casual.

When he heard her mention being pregnant with the Percy Group heir, he didn't react much.

But as the recording continued, Diana denied any feelings for Charles.

His face changed instantly.

So, to Diana, the child was just a tool, and their past relationship was just a means to an end?

Seeing his worsening expression, Clara's heart raced.

Originally, these recordings were her trump card.

Now, with no other options, she laid everything out.

She didn't know how Charles felt about Diana now, but she knew this recording would affect them.

Sure enough, after listening, Charles's face was terrifyingly dark.

He knew Diana had changed, that she didn't love him as she once did.

But he hadn't realized she would use him so blatantly.

It was like she saw him as an enemy.

What Eugene had said before seemed to be true.

Charles clenched his fist and slammed it on the desk.

The loud bang startled Clara.

"Mr. Percy, please don't be too angry. I told you this because I couldn't bear to see you deceived." Sensing the heavy atmosphere, she stammered.

Charles remained silent for a moment before replying, "Send me the recording."

Clara didn't know why he wanted it but nodded obediently.

Then she cautiously asked, "Mr. Percy, can you help my father? He's old and can't handle prison. My mother is sick because of this. I don't know what to do."

Tears welled up in her eyes, making her look pitiful.

Charles's expression was indifferent. Seeing her like this, he felt nothing.

He wasn't a fool. Although the recording made him angry, he knew Diana didn't have the power to send someone to prison without cause.

If Nathan was arrested, it meant he had broken the law.

As for what law he broke, Charles wasn't interested.

"The Percy Group will provide legal assistance."

This was the biggest concession Charles was willing to make.

Clara's expression twisted slightly.

With Charles's power, shouldn't he be able to get Nathan out directly?

Legal assistance? What kind of help was that? She wasn't so poor that she couldn't afford a lawyer.

But the words were already spoken, so Clara had to swallow her pride.

She took a deep breath and replied, "Thank you, Mr. Percy."

Then, as if remembering something, she continued, "Mr. Percy, I know you don't want to hear this, but I have to say it. Even though Diana is living at the Percy Mansion now, from what I know, she doesn't want to be there. Mr. Percy, Diana is complicated. She has someone else in her heart while entangling with you."

Clara spoke quickly, finishing before Charles could react.

These words, combined with the recording, were a double blow.

Sure enough, Charles's face grew darker, veins bulging on his forehead, ready to burst like a volcano.

Seeing this, Clara didn't dare stay any longer. She bowed and quickly left.
