Chapter 63 Pregnancy

Diana could tell Isolde really cared about her, so she smiled and said, "Seriously, it's no big deal. I've been through worse. Charles is nothing."

Isolde gave her cheek a playful pinch and grinned. "You're just being stubborn." For a moment, the hospital room felt lively, making Robert, who hadn't said a word, seem out of place.

"Robert, what's up?" Diana asked, confused.

Normally, Robert would have shown some concern by now, but today he was unusually quiet. He looked conflicted and pressed his lips together. "I'll tell you later," he said, hinting that there were outsiders present.

Diana raised an eyebrow. "It's just us here, spill it," she insisted.

Robert hesitated for a moment, knowing the doctor would come for rounds soon anyway. He nodded and handed Diana the test results. "You're pregnant."

"What!" The three women in the room were all shocked, including Diana. Pregnant? She instinctively touched her belly. Other than feeling a bit bloated after eating, she had no other symptoms.

Isolde, the only one with a child, reacted quickly. "What are you so shocked about? You didn't know you were pregnant? How long has it been since your last period? Didn't you notice?"

Diana looked panicked. She really didn't know. Her periods had always been irregular, and she had been so busy lately that she hadn't paid attention. 'Is there really a baby in there?'

Diana replied, "I had no idea. My periods are always irregular. Plus, I have no pregnancy symptoms at all."

Evelyn, also stunned, weakly asked the most crucial question, "Ms. Spencer, whose child is it?"

Diana was taken aback. She didn't need to think to know the child was definitely Charles'. They had slept together on the day she was reborn.

Charles had been drugged at the time and hadn't used protection, and she had been knocked out by sleeping pills. When she woke up, she had almost been strangled to death and had gone through various ordeals, completely forgetting to take the morning-after pill. But she got pregnant from just that one time.

Diana angrily slapped the bed and gritted her teeth. "Charles, I'm going to kill you!" The three women understood immediately, but it all seemed expected.

Isolde, who had been managing the company recently, naturally saw the value behind this child. Her expression turned conflicted for a moment. "Diana, you need to think about whether you want to keep this child. If you don't, it's best to abort it early to minimize harm to your body. If you do, whether it's a boy or a girl, the Percy Family won't let it go."

Before Diana married Charles, he had never been with another woman. There were even rumors in social circles that he didn't like women. Those rumors were dispelled when Charles got married. Recently, after their divorce, many women had been eyeing the position of Mrs. Percy.

In Charles' life, it seemed only his career mattered; women were dispensable. Especially after marrying Diana, Charles realized that if it was someone like her, marriage was doomed. So now, Charles wouldn't marry again, and children were completely out of the question for him.

Robert's tone was also particularly serious. "This child is very important. You should get another check-up later. Whether you keep it or not, you need to take care of your health."

Even though they didn't spell it out, Diana knew they thought she could use the baby to secure some wealth. But it wasn't that simple. She rubbed her forehead, recalling how the original Diana had tried to use a baby to tie Charles down when they first got married. The old Diana had looked so shy and hopeful. "Charles, let's have a baby. Juniper said she wants to..."

But the next second, Charles had grabbed her by the throat, his eyes cold as ice, and spat out the most venomous words, "Diana, what are you? You think you're worthy of bearing the Percy Group's heir? I'll never have child with you. Give up on that idea! Even if you do get pregnant and give birth, I'll strangle it with my own hands." Those cruel words still echoed in Diana's ears.

Seeing her silence, the three women didn't dare to say more. But then Diana raised her head. "I won't have it." As if to convince herself, she repeated, "I definitely won't have it. Charles doesn't deserve for me to bear his child."

Isolde, being a mother, felt a bit of compassion but respected Diana's choice. She patted Diana's back and comforted her, "It's okay, no rush to decide. No matter what, we'll be with you. I'll go with you for the check-up later."

"Okay." Diana nodded, taking a deep breath to calm herself. The news of the baby had come too suddenly, catching her off guard. It wasn't until the afternoon that they went to the obstetrics and gynecology department for a check-up. When the results came out, Diana said she wanted to hear what the doctor had to say alone, so she asked Isolde to wait outside.

The doctor, an elderly woman, looked at the report and then smiled at Diana. "Congratulations, you're going to be a mother. You're four weeks pregnant, in the early stages. Pay attention to your diet and rest. Make sure the father is supportive too. You might experience drowsiness and nausea, which are normal. Make sure to get enough nutrition."

Diana listened silently, looking down at the test results showing her pregnancy. She couldn't help but touch her belly, where the embryo hadn't fully developed yet. Seeing her confused expression, the doctor thought she was just a nervous first-time mom and offered more comfort.

When Diana came out, she looked dazed. Isolde helped her sit down and asked how she was. Diana pursed her lips. "I don't feel anything, but I am pregnant." She was silent for a while and then spoke again, a bit bitterly, "It feels strange having a child in my belly."

Isolde laughed. "When I first found out I was pregnant with Cecil, I felt the same way. But now, in the blink of an eye, Cecil is almost a year old. Sometimes I look at him and think, it's amazing. I actually gave birth to a person."

Diana was amused by her. Isolde took her hand and said seriously, "Diana, when I found out Finnian was cheating, I hated him so much. The thought of having a child with someone like that made me sick. But Cecil is so little and innocent. So I let it go. The child came from my body and will always be my treasure."

Diana didn't say anything. She knew Isolde, as a mother, had a soft spot for children. But she felt no connection to this little embryo, so she said bluntly, "I still don't want to have it, not just because I hate Charles. He once said that if I had his child, he would strangle it himself."

An unwanted child shouldn't be brought into the world to suffer.
