Chapter 449 House Arrest
"Come in."
Diana's voice was barely a whisper, her throat tight. She wasn't even sure if the person outside heard her.
But the door opened right away, and the maid from yesterday stepped in.
Her smile was stiff, almost robotic.
"Hi, Mrs. Percy. Dinner's ready. Should I bring it in now?"
Dinner?
Diana glanced out the window. It wasn't even dark yet.
The maid noticed her confusion and pointed to her wristwatch.
"It's already 6 PM, Mrs. Percy. You've been asleep all day. You need to eat something."
Without waiting for Diana's response, she clapped twice. Another maid entered, pushing a small cart with food, which she placed on the table.
Diana sat on the bed, annoyed by the maid's presumptuousness.
But her stomach was empty, and the mention of food made her realize how hungry she was. She decided not to refuse.
After setting everything up, the maid continued, "Mrs. Percy, please enjoy your meal. If you need anything, just let me know. I'm here to take care of you."
"I'm not a patient. I don't need your care."
Diana's voice was hoarse, and she frowned, rebutting the maid's words.
She had no fondness for anyone Charles had arranged.
"And stop calling me Mrs. Percy. I'm not."
"Yes, Mrs. Percy."
The maid heard her but didn't change her address.
Diana closed her eyes, resisting the urge to argue, and said, "You said you're here to take care of me. Fine, I need birth control pills."
If it was indeed 6 PM, it hadn't been 24 hours since she and Charles had sex. She still had time to take the pills.
If she ended up pregnant again, she would do anything to terminate it.
"Sorry, Mrs. Percy. That's beyond my capabilities."
The maid's expression didn't change; she just kept apologizing.
"Then I want to go for a walk."
Diana's frown deepened.
"Sorry, Mrs. Percy. That requires Mr. Percy's approval."
"You keep apologizing, but you don't seem very sorry. Is this how Charles told you to take care of me? Tell him to get back here!"
Frustrated by the maid's unyielding demeanor, Diana angrily threw a pillow. It rolled a couple of times on the floor before stopping, looking somewhat comical.
The maid didn't argue, just nodded slightly. "Mrs. Percy, please calm down and eat. You will see Mr. Percy again."
With that, she quickly left, locking the door behind her.
The room was once again left with just Diana.
After her outburst, Diana calmed down, realizing she had been too impulsive.
Why argue with a maid? The real culprit was Charles.
A ringing sound broke the silence.
Diana's body tensed as she looked around, spotting a landline phone on a cabinet near the bookshelf.
Landline phones were rare these days. It was clear Charles had set it up for her.
Her face tightened as she stared at the ringing phone, wishing she could burn a hole through it.
The phone rang for a long time, but Diana had no intention of answering.
It seemed determined to annoy her, stopping briefly before ringing again, its monotonous tone growing increasingly irritating.
Diana sat on the bed, pretending she couldn't hear the phone.
Her stomach growled at the smell of food.
This time, she didn't fight it and quickly got up to eat.
But her legs were weak, and the pain between them made walking difficult, almost causing her to fall.
Diana stood up straight, took a moment to steady herself, then slowly walked to the table.
As she sat down, the phone stopped ringing.
The table was set with all her favorite foods. Diana ate slowly, cursing Charles in her mind.
After she finished eating, the phone rang again.
Having ignored it for so long, Diana decided to answer this time. She wiped her mouth and picked up the phone. "What do you want? Stop calling me!"
She spoke bluntly, not bothering with politeness.
Charles was silent for a moment, then spoke in a tone that was both pleading and affectionate.
"Honey, I just wanted to talk. How did you sleep last night?"
Diana was so angry she laughed, gripping the receiver tightly. "Don't call me 'honey,' it's disgusting! Charles, how did I not realize before how creepy you are? You dare mention last night? That was assault. I could call the police on you!"
"We're married. The police won't interfere with a husband's bedroom activities."
He sounded slightly serious, then softened his tone again. "You don't like 'honey.' What should I call you? Mrs. Percy? Or maybe your nickname..."
As he tried to use a more intimate term, Diana interrupted, "I warn you, sweet talk won't work on me. One day, I will..."
Leave...
This time, Charles didn't let her finish. "Come back to me."
His voice was low, like a plea mixed with sorrow. After he spoke, there was a brief silence between them.
He enlarged the surveillance screen, hoping to see her reaction, but Diana just pursed her lips, saying nothing.
She hung up the phone and returned to the bed.
She regretted her words.
Talking to him only made him more cautious.
Forget calling the police; she couldn't even leave the room now.
At the Percy Group.
Charles wasn't upset when she hung up. He could still watch her through the surveillance.
He was quite entertained, often glancing at the screen while working.
His phone suddenly vibrated, displaying Jacob's name.
Charles answered, his voice calm. "What's up?"
"Mr. Percy, you need to come back. Benjamin is demanding to see Ms. Wipere. He's practically tearing the house apart. The maids are too scared to approach him, and the bodyguards can barely restrain him. As soon as they let go, he starts again."
Jacob's voice was breathless. Despite his age, he'd never encountered such a situation.
He didn't know why only Benjamin returned from the amusement park.
But something must have happened to "Ms. Wipere" for Charles to take her away.
How did Benjamin form such a strong bond with her in such a short time?
Jacob had been with the Percy family since Charles was a child.
Charles, Zachary, and their father were all calm, occasionally mischievous.
But Benjamin was different. He was more like a demon in a child's skin.
