Chapter 277 Catching Adultery
Two hours ago, at the Percy Group.
Today was especially hectic for Abigail. She had to cram three days' worth of work into just two, and to make matters worse, her reliable colleague Claire had taken the day off.
But compared to Nolan, she still had it relatively easy, which made her feel a bit better.
Nolan was currently in a meeting with Charles, and it had been over an hour with no end in sight.
Nolan looked nervously at Charles, who was seated at the head of the table.
He could clearly sense that Charles was very displeased. Extremely displeased.
It wasn't that there was an issue with the project.
It was that this meeting seemed endless.
The manager currently giving the report had been glared at by Charles several times, stammering through his presentation until Charles finally stopped him.
Nolan glanced at the time. It was already 2 PM.
He had been at the Percy Group since yesterday to prepare for taking Diana to the food festival, and he hadn't even gone home last night.
The bed at the Percy Group was cold and hard, and there was nothing to hold onto.
Charles hadn't slept well, and now he had to listen to these people drone on.
For the first time, he felt that the Percy Group's management system was overly complicated. Why was it so hard for him, the boss, to leave early?
The employees could see the change in his expression, but they didn't know the reason.
They thought there was a problem and were all too scared to look up.
Finally, Nolan couldn't take it anymore.
He spoke up, "Everyone, let's not repeat ourselves. Can we streamline this a bit?"
The group nodded and was about to continue when Charles finally lost his patience.
He put down his pen with a sharp click and stood up, speaking quickly, "This meeting is over."
Without another word, he left the conference room.
The employees were left stunned in their seats until someone finally spoke up, "Is that really Mr. Percy?"
Charles was always meticulous about work. Ending a meeting abruptly without any explanation was completely out of character for him.
"Alright, everyone, get back to work. Fix any issues on your own. Don't let the same problems come up in the next meeting," Nolan said seriously, not lingering to chat.
With the meeting over, he had to go be Charles' driver.
But if he had known what was coming, Nolan would have preferred to work himself to death at the Percy Group.
In front of him, a man and a woman were hugging. Both were very attractive, and anyone who didn't know them might think they were a couple.
The man looked despondent, tears streaming down his face, which only made him seem more pitiable rather than weak.
The woman kept stroking his back, her mouth moving as if offering words of comfort, though Nolan couldn't hear what she was saying.
In the winter chill, Nolan's forehead was covered in cold sweat.
Charles, sitting nearby, watched them with piercing eyes, fury practically blazing in his gaze.
Nolan gripped the steering wheel and cautiously asked, "Mr. Percy, what should we do now?"
Charles didn't answer. The silence in the car was terrifying, with their breathing the only sound.
After a moment, Charles pulled out his phone and called Diana.
A shrill ringtone came from Diana's bag, making both her and Billy pause.
Billy wiped his tears and let go of her, creating some distance between them.
"Go ahead and take the call. I'm fine now," he said.
Diana nodded, thinking it was Sabrina calling.
But when she saw the caller ID labeled "Madman," she frowned slightly.
After a moment's hesitation, she answered.
"Where are you?" Charles' deep voice came through before she could speak.
"Near the food street. Are you here? I have something to take care of, but I'll be there soon," she said calmly, as if nothing had happened.
Charles gripped his phone tighter and continued, "What is it? I'll come to you."
"It's just a small thing, already taken care of. I'll be there right away," Diana replied patiently.
Seeing she was busy, Billy offered, "Diana, if you need to go, I'll call a cab for you."
They were close enough that Charles could hear him through the phone.
Diana's brow twitched, realizing the situation. She quickly covered Billy's mouth and gestured for silence.
But Charles' voice came through the phone, "I heard a man's voice. Who are you with?"
"Just a passerby. You heard wrong," she lied smoothly.
Charles finally fell silent.
In the car, Nolan was on the verge of panic. Charles sat in the passenger seat, the tension around him palpable.
He had heard the entire conversation and wanted nothing more than to separate Diana and Billy.
Finally, Charles spoke, his voice icy, "Diana, don't lie to me."
Nolan silently prayed, 'Diana, please, just tell the truth. Don't lie to Charles!'
But as always, things didn't turn out the way he wanted. Diana was a pro at lying, not even batting an eye. She smoothly replied, "Really, I'm on my way back. If you're busy, don't wait for me. Bye."
Before Charles could respond, she hung up.
The disconnect tone was jarring in the silent car. Nolan didn't dare breathe, watching Charles' reaction through the mirror.
Charles' face was ashen, his grip on the phone so tight his knuckles were white. His anger was like a balloon about to burst.
"Drive over there," he ordered suddenly.
Nolan quickly hit the gas and soon stopped in front of Diana and Billy.
Seeing the familiar car, Diana's eyes widened. She quickly turned to Billy, "Go!"
Before Billy could react, the passenger door opened.
Charles stepped out, his expression cold and menacing.
Diana's heart raced. She had just hung up, and he was already here.
It was clear that from the moment Charles called, he had seen her with Billy.
The call had been a warning, one she had failed to heed.
Now, Charles' face was a mask of fury, his lips pressed into a thin line, a chilling aura surrounding him.
Sensing danger, Diana stepped in front of Billy, saying, "It's not what you think."
Behind her, Billy remained calm and greeted Charles politely, "Mr. Percy, what a coincidence."
The next second, Diana was yanked aside, stumbling and falling to the ground.
Then came the sound of a fist hitting flesh.
Billy was knocked to the ground by Charles' punch, his teeth cutting into his mouth, blood quickly pooling at the corner of his lips.
As he clutched his wound, Charles grabbed him by the collar, forcing him to look up.
