Chapter 270 Apologizing in Person
Diana frowned, clearly annoyed. "Why should I care? I'm not going."
She had been in a foul mood all day, and Charles was starting to get irritated. He had spoiled her too much; she wouldn't cooperate over the smallest things.
Before he could say anything, Jacob chimed in. "Ms. Glenn said she really wants to see you. If you don't meet her this time, she'll come back again."
Diana's expression froze. She and Sabrina hadn't been in touch lately, probably because they both felt a bit awkward about the last incident.
But thinking it over, it wasn't entirely her fault last time. Sabrina was just a bit naive and lively, without any bad intentions.
With a sigh, Diana relented. "Fine, I'll see her."
In the front hall, Sabrina clutched a stuffed bunny, looking nervous. It was a gift she had just bought for Diana as an apology, though she wasn't sure if Diana would like it.
But more than that, she was afraid Diana wouldn't see her. In the Rainbow Federation, Diana was her only good friend, and she didn't want to lose that.
Noah noticed her anxiety and patted her hand reassuringly. "Don't worry, Ms. Spencer isn't a petty person."
Just then, Jacob came over to greet them, "Please wait a moment, Mr. Percy and Ms. Spencer will be here shortly."
Hearing this, both of them breathed a sigh of relief. Their visit to The Percy Mansion had been a bit rushed, but at least Diana was willing to see them, which was a good start.
After coming in from the garden, Diana and Charles changed out of their dirt-stained clothes and tidied up before heading to meet Noah and Sabrina.
As they approached the front hall, Charles grabbed Diana's hand, holding it firmly.
"What are you doing?" She was baffled by the sudden gesture and tried to pull her hand away.
Charles said nothing, just kept holding her hand as they walked forward.
So when Noah and Sabrina saw them, they appeared close and intimate.
Sabrina's eyes lit up, but she also felt a bit awkward. She had previously thought Diana and Noah were a good match, but now, seeing Diana and Charles together, they seemed like a perfect pair.
Noah was the first to react, standing up and speaking. "Mr. Percy, Ms. Spencer. I'm sorry for the sudden visit, but I thought it was best to clear things up to avoid any further misunderstandings between our families."
His tone was humble and polite, leaving no room for criticism.
Charles was pleased with his attitude and, still holding Diana's hand, sat down opposite them. "It's a minor issue. I didn't take it to heart."
Diana rolled her eyes at his words. 'Didn't take it to heart? I could barely get out of bed that day.'
Sabrina had been watching Diana closely, and seeing her expression, she thought Diana was still upset with them, making her even more nervous.
Noah nudged her, and she quickly handed over the gift. "I'm sorry, Diana. I acted on my own last time. I should have checked first."
She blinked and quickly lowered her head, not daring to meet Diana's eyes.
Diana looked at the stuffed bunny, snapping out of her thoughts.
Seeing Sabrina's anxious expression, she felt a bit guilty. Sabrina hadn't done anything wrong and shouldn't be the one apologizing.
With a smile, Diana gently took the bunny and said, "Thank you, Sabrina. But I'm not mad, so don't be so nervous."
She placed the bunny beside her and added, "This bunny is really cute. I like it a lot."
Hearing this, Sabrina's eyes brightened. She knew Diana wouldn't blame her.
All the tension and frustration of the past few days came flooding out, and Sabrina started to cry.
Everyone in the room was startled by her sudden tears.
Noah felt especially awkward. They had talked it over before coming, so why was she crying now?
Sabrina, still crying, moved around the sofa and opened her arms to Diana.
Diana couldn't stand to see a girl cry and felt flustered. She quickly pulled her hand from Charles and hugged Sabrina, soothing her. "It's okay, it's okay. I'm fine, don't cry."
"Diana, it's all my fault. I made you and Mr. Percy argue. I didn't mean to." Sabrina sobbed, her words barely understandable.
Diana held her close, patiently comforting her.
The two men stood stiffly, with Noah not daring to say a word.
Charles clenched his fist. He had thought Diana's temper had worsened after their divorce, but it seemed she only got angry with him. She comforted Sabrina with such tenderness, a stark contrast to the way she argued with him.
After a while, Sabrina calmed down, feeling a bit embarrassed. She quickly wiped her tears and apologized. "Sorry, Mr. Percy. I lost my composure."
Charles didn't want to engage with the delicate Sabrina. His expression unchanged, he responded coolly, "It's fine."
Sabrina thought he was still angry and continued, "The things I said before were just jokes. Seeing you and Diana together today, you really do make a perfect couple."
Diana's expression changed, suddenly panicking.
They were just enemies, well, maybe with a bit of a complicated relationship now. But definitely not a perfect match.
Charles would be furious if he heard that.
Thinking quickly, Diana covered Sabrina's mouth, forcing a smile. "She's just talking nonsense. Don't take it seriously."
She then pulled Sabrina up and headed out. "We're going for a walk. You guys chat."
Before they could react, Diana dragged Sabrina out of the room.
Noah, feeling awkward, forced a laugh. "They seem to get along well."
But Charles's face was dark, his hand tapping irritably on the sofa.
Sabrina's words had pleased him, but Diana's reaction? Was she that eager to distance herself from him?
Outside, Diana led Sabrina to the garden. At first, she walked quickly, but when Sabrina stumbled, nearly falling, she slowed down. "Sorry, Sabrina. I didn't mean to rush."
Sabrina, catching her breath, looked puzzled. "I'm fine, Diana. But what's going on with you and Mr. Percy? Noah said you two divorced a while ago."
It wasn't a secret, and after a moment of silence, Diana replied. "Yes, we divorced a long time ago. Charles doesn't like me anymore, so please don't say things like that."
Sabrina, having caught her breath, looked confused. "But I saw Mr. Percy that day. He seemed to care about you. Why did you get divorced?"
Her curiosity was almost palpable, and Diana, with a wry smile, asked in return. "If you know we divorced, you must know the reason."
Sabrina shook her head. She had heard things, but the Diana they described wasn't the Diana she knew. It had to be rumors.
"They're just talking nonsense. Only the people involved know the truth. Diana, please tell me. I'm so curious."
