Chapter 514 Vegetative State

Dean's face went blank, clearly confused.

"Wait for what?"

He paused, then cautiously asked, "Is there something else that needs doing? I can take care of it."

"No, Charles hasn't woken up yet. I need to stay here and watch over him."

Whether he lived or died, Diana needed to know.

But Dean, hearing this, looked at Diana like she'd lost her mind. He reached out to feel her forehead.

"Are you running a fever?"

Diana dodged his hand and said seriously, "He saved both Benjamin and me."

"But now's the best time to leave!" Dean's voice rose in frustration.

He felt Diana had gone crazy. After their last failed escape, he'd been constantly planning how to get her and Benjamin back to the Alliance.

With Charles in a coma and everyone's attention on him, Dean had managed to arrange everything. They were just waiting for Diana to be discharged so the three of them could return to the Alliance together.

"If we wait for him to wake up, I can't guarantee I'll be able to take you back."

Diana knew what he was worried about and just shook her head.

"This is what Benjamin and I both want. No matter the outcome, we'll accept it."

With that, she stopped seeking Dean's opinion and instead asked Benjamin, "What happened after the explosion? I only remember passing out."

Benjamin wiped his tears and replied, "After the factory exploded, everyone ran out. It was only after we got out that we realized you were still inside. Mr. Smith and the police went back in to save you. As for that bad woman, she's been taken to the police station."

As for what would happen to her, everything depended on Charles waking up.

Diana pressed her lips together and said to Dean, "I'll handle things here. You don't need to worry. I know what I'm doing."

Dean frowned and remained silent. The current Diana was nothing like the one he remembered.

"Have you gone soft? Don't forget how he treated you before."

"I know. Whether he wakes up or not, I want an answer. Dean, I'm the one involved. No one feels this more deeply than I do."

Diana's face was calm, with no hint of joking.

Benjamin chimed in, "Charles isn't that bad. He's changed a lot. Mommy and I aren't fools. Once he wakes up, we'll go back with you."

The mother and son were in sync, making Dean feel redundant. He closed his eyes and finally relented.

"Fine, I'll stay in the Rainbow Federation and see if Charles lives or dies."

Just as he finished speaking, a knock on the door drew their attention.

Before Diana could react, Dean quickly hid in the bathroom.

The next second, the doctor entered, followed by a nurse and Nolan.

Seeing Diana awake, Nolan's serious expression softened a bit.

"Ms. Spencer, you're finally awake. How do you feel? Is there any discomfort?"

Diana shook her head. "I'm fine."

After a brief pause, she hesitated, "How is he?"

Nolan realized she was asking about Charles and pursed his lips.

"Mr. Percy was shot in the leg, suffered a severe head injury, and has various fractures and soft tissue injuries. The doctor says his condition is very serious."

Diana's pupils contracted, and she didn't know what to say.

She was the one who had been kidnapped, yet he was the most injured.

"But the surgery was successful. Now we just have to wait for Mr. Percy to wake up. If he does, he'll be fine."

"What if he doesn't wake up?" Benjamin asked anxiously.

Nolan's eyes flickered, and his face grew heavy, as if unwilling to accept the reality. "If he doesn't wake up, he'll be in a vegetative state."

A vegetative state is a special kind of consciousness disorder where patients can't communicate with the outside world.

If a miracle happens, they might wake up one day, but if not, they could lie there for a lifetime until complications lead to death.

Diana's heart pounded, and she couldn't care less about the doctor and nurse still examining her. She jumped out of bed.

"I need to see him."

"Ms. Spencer, you can't leave yet!"

"Ms. Spencer!"

Amidst the exclamations, the nurse and Nolan quickly stopped her.

Nolan hurriedly said, "Ms. Spencer, I know you're anxious, but all we can do now is wait. Your health is important too. Once you're better, you can see Mr. Percy."

Diana stood up, feeling dizzy, but she insisted on walking out. "I just want to take a look. I'm fine. I'm already better."

But the next second, she collapsed from weakness.

Fortunately, Nolan and the nurse caught her and put her back on the bed.

Diana coughed anxiously and glared. "I'm really fine. Where is Charles? He got hurt saving me. I have to see him."

Nolan frowned. He was somewhat angry with Diana, but the real culprit was the kidnapper.

Charles's injury had triggered a series of chain reactions, which was why Nolan had rushed over to see Diana.

Seeing that she still cared about Charles, he felt a bit relieved.

After confirming with the doctor that she was fine, he sent everyone out, leaving just the three of them in the room.

Nolan's gaze shifted between them, then he spoke sincerely, "Ms. Spencer, I know there's been a rift between you and Mr. Percy. But Mr. Percy isn't a bad person. He genuinely saved you this time. If you're truly grateful, I have a favor to ask."

Diana, still worried about Charles, was stunned by his words. "What do you mean?"

"Help Mr. Percy. Help the Percy Group."

Nolan suddenly knelt on one knee, looking as if he wouldn't get up unless she agreed.

"What do you mean? Explain clearly."

"The Percy Group has another major shareholder, Elise Sinclair. She and Mr. Percy don't get along, and she's been suppressed for a long time. Since her son died abroad, she's been more subdued."

"But three days ago, when Mr. Percy got injured, the news leaked. Now everyone is watching Mr. Percy. If he doesn't wake up, the Percy Group will change hands."

Nolan stared at Diana, pausing before continuing, "I'm Mr. Percy's assistant, but I can only handle his work. In a shareholders' meeting, I have no real power."

"So I need you, Ms. Spencer. You and Mr. Percy are married, and you signed a share transfer agreement. You have the right to manage the Percy Group."

"Does Elise know about Charles's injury?"

Diana frowned, clearly catching the key point. "Is she involved in the explosion and kidnapping?"

Nolan hadn't expected her to focus on the cause of Charles's injury, but he nodded.

"That's my suspicion too, but that's not the main issue right now. Ms. Spencer, can you attend the shareholders' meeting in three days?"
