Chapter 500 Divergence

Diana's lips twitched as she ran a hand through her hair, regretting coming back with him.

Not only did she have to soothe Benjamin, but now she had to deal with Charles too. Just her luck.

Even though it was just putting Benjamin to bed, they still had plenty of time together.

After both of them had taken their showers, Diana was changing into her pajamas when she noticed several kiss marks on her neck left by Charles.

The clothes she wore to the office had long been tossed somewhere, and the new clothes that were sent had narrow collars. With her hair down, she hadn't noticed the marks.

Now, with the wide neckline of her pajamas and her hair temporarily pinned up after washing it, the kiss marks were glaringly obvious.

Diana's face changed, and she frowned, trying to rub them away with her fingers, only to find they turned even redder.

Outside the door, Benjamin, who had finished his bath, was urging her, "Mommy, what's taking so long? My hair's already dry."

"I know, I'll be right out."

Diana raised her voice in response, having no choice but to go out as she was.

Sure enough, Benjamin exclaimed when he saw her neck, "Mommy! You got bitten by mosquitoes! It's so bad, there are so many red spots."

He quickly went to the bedside table to find some mosquito repellent and handed it to Diana.

"Mommy, use this, and it won't itch. Mr. Hearst gives it to me when I go out to play, though it smells a bit strong."

Looking at her son's innocent face, Diana was grateful he was still young. She decided to go along with it and sprayed some on.

The smell was harsh and herbal, not pleasant at all.

But soon, their attention shifted away from it.

Benjamin was the first to ask, "Mommy, what did you mean today? Mr. Percy said you two got married? And he told me to call you Ms. Spencer."

Diana hugged a pillow, leaning against the bed, feeling a bit hopeless.

"Benjamin, you already guessed it, so there's no need to play dumb. It's exactly what you think."

Benjamin had been unsettled since the revelation earlier. He had an idea but wasn't sure.

Now that Diana confirmed it, he fell silent, his expression changing unpredictably, making it hard to tell what he was thinking.

Charles recognized Diana and remarried her, so does that mean he has a dad now? They could be a family again.

"What about his previous fiancée? That celebrity lady."

"They broke up."

Diana answered truthfully, adding, "Our marriage is legally binding, it's not a joke."

Benjamin listened, half understanding, while thinking about how Charles had made mistakes before. Would Diana forgive him?

As he thought, he pouted, "Mommy, what do you think? Are you happy?"

Not wanting him to be sad, Diana nodded and replied, "Happy. As long as I have you, I'm happy."

"Are we still leaving?"

Benjamin's eyes lit up, getting straight to the point.

This time, Diana, who had been able to comfort Benjamin, fell silent.

She could tell Benjamin was happy at dinner. If she suggested leaving now, who knows how he would feel.

"What do you think?"

Diana threw the question back at him.

Benjamin rested his chin on his hand, thinking seriously. After a moment, he slowly said, "If it were the old dad, I wouldn't want to stay. But now..."

"I think he has flaws, but he's good to us. Maybe we should give him another chance."

His eyes sparkled, eagerly awaiting Diana's reaction.

This was exactly what Diana was struggling with.

With this marriage, even if she ran, Charles could track her down. Finding a new man to marry would be nearly impossible.

But being tied to one man made her feel rebellious.

Even with Benjamin's persuasion, she didn't want to compromise.

So she spoke seriously, "This marriage wasn't my choice. My feelings haven't changed. I want to go home, back to the Alliance, to our real home."

Every word Diana said felt heavy, like a stone on her chest.

She wasn't sure if she was convincing Benjamin or herself.

Benjamin, who had been so excited, fell silent. His lips moved as if he was unwilling to give up, "Is there really no chance?"

Diana's heart wavered, but seeing Benjamin reminded her of the hardships she endured during pregnancy.

She nodded firmly, "No chance."

Seeing Benjamin's face change, Diana quickly added, "If you want to stay, I won't stop you, but the Percy family is dangerous. I can only protect you in secret."

Unexpectedly, Benjamin shook his head immediately.

"I don't want to. If it's just me and him..."

It wouldn't be a family. It would be a single father and son, which sounded too sad.

Benjamin didn't finish his sentence, but his actions were firm as he hugged Diana's arm.

"I don't care. I want to be with Mommy. Wherever you go, I go. This birthday will be our farewell."

Benjamin spoke seriously, unaware of how difficult it would be for them to leave.

Diana didn't correct him, instead, she ruffled his hair, "Alright, I'll make sure you have an unforgettable birthday."

She comforted him for a long time, and soon Benjamin, who had been sad about his parents not being together, was happy again, snuggling in Diana's arms as she told him stories.

They played for over two hours before Benjamin finally closed his eyes and fell asleep.

The night was deep, and the villa was so quiet that even a pin drop could be heard.

Diana tiptoed back to her room, which was pitch dark except for a dim nightlight.

Using the faint light, Diana carefully closed the door and reached for the light switch.

Before she could touch it, the room lights turned on automatically, startling Diana into taking two steps back.

Charles stood by the light switch, his face cold. Seeing her startled, he sneered, "You still know how to come back? Do you know what time it is?"

Diana shrank back at his questioning but then remembered she wasn't a criminal. Why should she be interrogated like this?

She immediately stood her ground and retorted, "If you're tired, go to sleep. I didn't ask you to wait for me. I told you I was putting the kid to bed."

Charles's face remained stern as he took two steps closer.

Before she could react, his large hands gripped her shoulders, pushing her against the wall.

His fingers brushed over the kiss marks on her neck, his eyes narrowing.

"You went to put the kid to bed with these marks?"

He emphasized "put the kid to bed," and sure enough, Diana's eyes began to dodge, clearly embarrassed.

She pushed him away, striding towards the bed, angrily saying, "Isn't this your fault?"

As she spoke, she threw a pillow at Charles's chest, which he caught effortlessly.
