Chapter 221 Maintenance
Diana's brow furrowed, her voice dripping with sarcasm, "Are you nuts?"
Her words shattered the cozy vibe between them.
Charles's face turned stormy, his usual icy demeanor snapping back into place.
His grip on her waist tightened a bit, "Zip it."
This was the Charles Diana knew all too well.
She clammed up, staring straight ahead.
Today's mess was her doing, and now Charles was cleaning it up. If he told her to shut up, she'd shut up.
Seeing them all wrapped up in each other, Jake was fuming, sprawled on the ground, one hand clutching his waist, the other shaking as he pointed at Charles, "You cops just gonna stand there? Arrest them all!"
After yelling, the pain hit him harder, tears almost spilling out, and he cried out, "Where's the doctor? I need a doctor! It hurts like hell!"
The scene was already a mess, the cops frowned, pulled out handcuffs, and said to Charles, "You're under suspicion of assault; come with us."
Before Charles could say anything, Nolan, who had just gotten the lowdown from Jett, stepped in front of him, his voice firm, "Why arrest us and not the real troublemakers?"
"Mr. Smith, the guy on the ground, his uncle's the police chief. We're in deep this time!" Diana's tone was light, almost amused.
Hearing this, Jake immediately threatened, "You're in big trouble!"
"If you don't cooperate, we'll have to use force." The cops flashed the cuffs again, eager to wrap this up and head back to the station. Why were these people so difficult? If they messed with the wrong person, no one could save them.
But as soon as they finished speaking, Nolan sneered. Charles wouldn't even bother with someone at that level.
Since when did a police chief get to play dictator?
"Mr. Percy, how do you want to handle this?" Nolan tilted his head slightly, quickly seeking Charles's input.
Charles gave a short order, then stepped aside with Diana. "Make him regret it."
Seeing them about to leave, the cop was about to shout, but his wrist was grabbed, and in a flash, he was pinned to the ground, unable to move. "What are you doing? This is assaulting an officer!"
The one pinning him down was Jett, who had been standing by.
The cop's buddies were about to jump in when a group of men in black appeared out of nowhere, rounding everyone up.
The chaotic scene went dead quiet with the arrival of the men in black.
Especially Jake, who was hoisted up by two towering bodyguards and dragged in front of Charles.
When they let go, his legs wobbled, barely holding him up. "Who are you people? My uncle, my uncle is..."
"The police chief." Diana cut him off, but there was no fear in her eyes.
The next second, she went full drama queen, grabbing Charles's sleeve and fake crying, "Charles, what do we do? We're gonna get thrown in jail."
Her act was so over-the-top that Charles's face showed clear disdain, but he didn't push her away.
Jake was still in shock. Mentioning Wilmer usually got him instant respect. Why wasn't it working now?
It was Caspian behind him who reacted first, quickly apologizing. "I'm sorry, Mr. Percy. We didn't know she was your girl. It was all a misunderstanding."
Jake didn't know Charles, but Caspian did. Since he was a kid, his family had drilled it into him. He could mess around all he wanted, but he must never cross Charles.
If Charles decided to go after him, his whole family's foundation would crumble.
Seeing no response from Charles, Caspian quickly slapped himself a few times, the sound sharp and loud, clearly putting some muscle into it.
In no time, his cheeks were red and swollen.
Charles barely lifted an eyelid, used to scenes like this, and said coldly, "Send him home, and tell his parents I don't want to see him in Evergreen City again."
The men in black obeyed, swiftly covering Caspian's mouth and dragging him away.
Jake then realized something was seriously off. He had just come back to the country and wasn't up to speed on the powerful families in Evergreen City.
But Caspian's words triggered a faint memory.
Charles, the Percy family!
His parents had drilled it into him that the Percy family was untouchable in Evergreen City.
How could he have been so unlucky?
No wonder that woman wasn't scared at all. He was in deep trouble now.
Jake's body shook, collapsing to the ground, cold sweat pouring down his face.
He mimicked Caspian, repeatedly apologizing, "Mr. Percy, I'm sorry; it's all my fault."
Seeing Charles's unchanged expression, he turned his hope to Diana. "Miss, I'm sorry; I wasn't thinking and spoke out of turn. Please forgive me."
Diana smirked slightly, her voice sweet but dripping with sarcasm, "You said your uncle is the police chief, and these cops are indeed on your side. You must have bullied a lot of people, right? Did you ever think about this day when you were throwing your weight around?"
Jake swallowed hard. He had indeed bullied many people. Now that karma had come for him, he didn't know how to respond.
Back then, some people had begged him like he was begging now. What did he do?
He laughed loudly and continued to bully them.
Jake mumbled a few words, uneasily continuing to apologize, "I'm sorry. Please forgive me."
Diana's smile faded, her eyes turning cold, "You're not genuinely sorry; you're just scared."
These rich kids had been bullying others for a long time. She almost forgot that she was also flaunting her association with Charles.
But Diana's sense of morality was never high. She enjoyed fighting fire with fire.
As she spoke, she noticed Charles staring at her. She frowned slightly, "Why are you looking at me? He just called you a gigolo; shouldn't you punish him severely?"
From his angle, Diana's brows were furrowed. Her cheeks puffed slightly because she was pursing her lips. She looked very lively and cute, much more so than her usual fake demeanor.
His expression grew intense, his gaze shifting to her rosy lips.
He didn't hear what she was saying, but he really wanted to kiss her.
Seeing Charles not speaking, Diana poked his arm, urging, "Say something. These people listen to you."
Charles snapped back to reality slightly, asking in a low voice, "Did he bully you?"
Hearing that, Diana instinctively nodded. Then, she shook her head.
It was just verbal harassment, not really bullying.
And she had kicked hard. Whether Jake could be a normal man for the rest of his life was uncertain.
Seeing her not answering, Charles asked Jett.
Jett scratched his head and answered truthfully, "He said if Ms. Spencer messed around with him and his friends, he'd let us go."
As he finished speaking, Jake couldn't help but complain internally. Did his memory have to be that good?
Then he started to regret saying that. With so many beautiful women, why did he have to mess with this one?
