Chapter 509 Getting Beaten

The ringing in Diana's ears was joined by the metallic taste of blood spreading in her mouth.

Half of her face felt numb and hot, her vision blurred, and something wet trickled down to her lips.

She had a nosebleed from the hit.

Benjamin couldn't see Diana, but he heard the slap and couldn't hold back his tears any longer.

Tears streamed down his face, but his expression remained fierce, like a wild animal, as he shouted fearlessly.

"I'll kill you! I'll chop off your fingers one by one..."

Before he could finish, a man in black grabbed his face, covering it entirely with his large hand, making it hard for Benjamin to breathe.

"Stupid kid, you think I won't hurt you? You want to chop off my fingers? I could kill you right now!"

"You wouldn't dare!"

Hearing this, Diana snapped back to reality. Despite her bruised and swollen face, her instinct to protect Benjamin kicked in.

Facing the threat, she immediately spoke up, "Who hired you? I'll pay ten times whatever they're offering. Let us go, you can't harm this child."

"Stupid bitch, who do you think you are? You're just a cheating woman who got some money from a man. Ten times? Why not fifty?"

The man in black laughed as if he'd heard the funniest joke. He released Benjamin's face and flexed his fingers.

"You bit me just from a little touch. You really are sharp-tongued."

Diana squinted at him, trying to figure out who she had offended.

A cheating woman?

She took a deep breath and subtly squeezed Benjamin's fingers, signaling him to stay calm.

"You must have the wrong person. I'm married. I'm my husband's legitimate wife."

The man in black wiped the blood off his fingers and clicked his tongue impatiently.

"I found you from a photo. There's no mistake. Once we get there, you'll know who you pissed off."

At that moment, Diana's phone rang from her pocket.

The man in black raised an eyebrow, his attention caught by the sound.

Diana's dress had pockets on the sides, which were hard to notice unless you looked closely.

So it wasn't until the phone rang that the man in black realized she still had a communication device.

He took the phone and saw the contact labeled "Honey."

He waved the phone around, "Looks like someone noticed you're missing."

Diana frowned at the screen, seeing the name Charles had entered himself. It felt like a lifeline.

"Answer it. You can get a big ransom. My husband is very wealthy."

The driver, another man in black, quickly warned his partner, "Throw the phone away. It probably has a tracker. Don't let anyone find us."

Diana's expression barely changed, but she hadn't expected them to guess so accurately. The tracker she usually hated was now her hope.

She opened her mouth to try again, but the phone was quickly turned off and thrown out the window.

They were driving over a bridge, and the phone fell into the river, creating a small splash before disappearing.

Diana's gaze shifted to the buildings by the road, trying to figure out their location.

The man in black soon blindfolded her and Benjamin.

The car continued to drive, the road ahead unknown.

-

"Mr. Percy, we've tracked Ms. Spencer's last known location to here."

Nolan's tone was serious as he looked at the small dot on the screen. They were now at the same spot, but there was nothing around.

That left only one possibility: the phone had been thrown into the river.

Nolan felt a mix of emotions.

He had thought he would just help Charles with some work at the office and then go home. But one phone call changed that, telling him rest was not an option.

His boss's wife had run off again.

History seemed to repeat itself. Last time, Diana had done the same thing, taking Benjamin and fleeing from an amusement park.

Nolan figured that after this, Charles might develop a phobia of amusement parks.

The man in the back seat was expressionless, staring ahead, lost in thought.

Nolan pressed his lips together and cautiously asked, "Mr. Percy, I've sent people to the airport. What should we do now?"

"She won't go to the airport."

Charles spoke suddenly. This route wasn't heading to the airport.

Diana knew her phone had a tracker. If she wanted to ditch it, she could have done so at the amusement park.

But she took it with her, along with his jacket and tie.

If she wanted to run, she wouldn't need those.

The amusement park was far from the city, most people drove or took a cab there.

The parking lot was in a central location with surveillance cameras.

Thinking of this, Charles instructed, "Check the amusement park's parking lot cameras."

Nolan nodded immediately but hesitated about whether to pull back the airport team.

He decided not to say anything; if Diana did go to the airport, it would be his fault.

Half an hour later, they pulled up the surveillance footage. Seeing the two men in black taking them away, Nolan sighed in relief.

But his expression quickly turned serious again, "Mr. Percy, this is a planned kidnapping. Ms. Spencer probably thought they were our people, so she went with them. What do we do now?"

Without the tracker, they could only rely on the footage, which would take time.

Typically, they would have to wait for the kidnappers to make the first move.

-

After what felt like an eternity, the car finally stopped.

Diana and Benjamin were dragged out, unable to see but smelling gasoline and trees.

It was eerily quiet, with only the sounds of birds and insects.

They were tied to a post, the smell of rust and oil making their heads spin.

The blindfolds were removed, and Diana squinted, instinctively looking around.

Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the exhaust fan, casting twisted shadows on the walls.

The place was empty, with piles of discarded wood and metal in the corners.

It was an abandoned factory.

Finding such a desolate place for a kidnapping wasn't easy.

Diana wasn't even sure if they were still in Evergreen City.

The two men in black left after tying them up.

Benjamin whispered, "Mommy, don't be scared. I've already notified Dean. He has friends here. We'll be rescued."

Benjamin's watch was still on his wrist, unnoticed by the kidnappers due to its ordinary appearance.

Diana wasn't scared, but she whispered back, "Do you have Charles's contact information?"
