Chapter 499 Remarriage

The banter between the two sounded more like a couple of parents.

Benjamin suddenly realized the spot where he got hit didn't hurt anymore and asked with curiosity, "So when's the wedding? Can I be the ring bearer?"

The idea of being at his own parents' wedding seemed pretty awesome.

Benjamin hadn't expected to be okay with their remarriage so fast. Especially after hearing about Charles's past, his view of his dad had shifted a lot.

At least Charles wasn't as cold and ruthless as the rumors said, and besides, Charles had saved his life.

Dean had said that marriage is when a man and a woman in love come together and have a little baby as a symbol of their love.

Now they had both the marriage and Benjamin, the baby. It was perfect.

If it weren't for the fact that he was still just Charles's nephew, Benjamin would almost want to call them "Mommy and Daddy" right away.

Unlike the joyfully overwhelmed Benjamin, Diana felt uneasy.

Her remarriage to Charles was purely calculated, and she had initially told Benjamin she was leaving.

Now telling him they were remarrying made her question what all the fuss had been for. Wasn't it just a waste of time?

But with Charles right there, Diana couldn't explain and just quietly changed the subject, "No need to rush on that."

"I think Benjamin's got a point. We could start planning the wedding, but it's up to you," Charles chimed in, looking serious.

Diana turned her head away, avoiding his gaze, "Don't ask me. I don't want any of that. We didn't have it before."

Their first wedding had been rushed, and now it was a second marriage. What was the point of a big wedding?

But Charles misunderstood her. Thinking back, he felt guilty for how he had treated her.

Now he genuinely wanted to make it up to her.

"This time, the wedding will be unforgettable. I'll wait until you're ready to attend."

That day would also be the day Diana truly wanted to marry him.

"Yay, Mr. Percy, I want to bring you the rings!" Benjamin chimed in excitedly.

The two men finally found common ground, and for a moment, they looked at each other with newfound appreciation.

Diana closed her eyes, not wanting to argue with them anymore, "Let's eat, no more talking."

Benjamin immediately mimed zipping his lips, but when he picked up his fork, he did it again and playfully said, "I forgot we still have to eat."

For a while, the only sounds in the dining room were the clinking of cutlery against plates.

Charles surprisingly went along with her request. After they finished eating, he reminded her, "Did you forget what you wanted to say when you came back?"

Diana snapped back to reality, hurriedly tidying her hair, and asked, "Benjamin, your birthday is coming up. Do you still want what you asked for before? Let us know if you change your mind."

Hearing this, Benjamin perked up, "Are you going to celebrate my birthday? I still want a cake and to go to the amusement park!"

He had thought about it for a while, and nothing had changed.

As he said this, his eyes sparkled, and he tugged on Diana's sleeve, pleading, "I want you to make the cake yourselves. That would be the best gift."

Then he anxiously asked Charles, "Mr. Percy, do you remember our promise?"

Charles crossed his arms, looking aloof, but his answer was unexpected, "Of course I remember. It's just that someone didn't behave, which caused a little hiccup in our plan."

Hearing this, Benjamin quickly promised, "I'll be good! I swear! Let's make this the best birthday ever!"

He clasped his hands together, looking so sincere it was hard not to smile.

Charles raised an eyebrow, glancing between the two, and finally gave Benjamin the answer he wanted.

"Alright, kiddo."

"Yay!" Benjamin cheered, bouncing around them.

Seeing him so happy, Diana couldn't bear to interrupt, so she gently said, "Slow down, don't trip."

Once he ran off to the living room, Charles stepped forward to stand shoulder to shoulder with Diana.

He lowered his voice, teasing, "You're pretty patient with kids. Must have a strong back to stand for so long."

Diana's face flushed at his teasing, and she stepped on his shoe twice.

Luckily, she wasn't wearing heels, or Charles's foot would have been in trouble.

After a sharp intake of breath, Charles, looking annoyed, pulled Diana back as she tried to escape.

Turning her to face him, he gritted his teeth, "We'll have our own kids, and you should keep a safe distance from other people's children!"

As he spoke, he placed his hands on either side of Diana, trapping her in his arms, creating a somewhat intimate atmosphere.

But before they could react, Benjamin's voice interrupted, "Whoa, I didn't see anything! Carry on, carry on..."

With that, he closed his eyes, pretending to feel his way out.

Charles's mouth twitched, and he raised his voice, "Get back here, what are you sneaking around for?"

Benjamin paused, scratching his head, "I just wanted to ask if you're staying tonight?"

"Of course," Diana answered before Charles could.

Compared to going back to Moon Hill Villa, she felt staying at the Percy house with Benjamin was nice. She hadn't seen him in a while and wanted to spend time with him.

"Can I sleep with you?" Benjamin asked.

"Of course you can."

"Absolutely not!"

Two voices rang out simultaneously. Diana turned to look at Charles, who had refused on her behalf.

He looked grim, pinching her waist as he threatened, "You're my wife. Try sleeping with another man and see what happens."

As if guessing what she was about to say, Charles lowered his voice and added, "Even if he's small, he's still a man. Don't try to make excuses."

His words only made him seem more childish.

Diana didn't bother arguing with him. She slipped out of his embrace and first comforted her son, "I'll come tell you a story later to help you sleep, okay? Benjamin, you're grown up now, so I won't sleep with you anymore."

After saying that, she pinched Charles's waist, signaling him to behave.

Although Benjamin was a bit disappointed that his status had been downgraded, being with Diana was good enough for him, so he didn't make a fuss.

Instead, he held Diana's hand, pressing it against his soft cheek, and said sweetly, "Okay, I'll be good."

With that, he headed back to his room, making Charles, who was left standing there with a sour expression, seem even more immature.

Diana crossed her arms, glanced at him, and chided, "He's just a kid. His parents aren't around. Why are you picking on him?"

"I'm selfish, I'm petty, and I just can't stand it. Ms. Spencer, please come back soon. If I don't see you before I fall asleep, I'll go crazy too."
