Chapter 92 Credit Stolen

"Axel, we're all buddies here. Shouldn't we be straight with each other?" It was Dwayne Larson from the same team. They'd joined the company at the same time and got along well at first, but as Axel became the boss's favorite, Dwayne started to drift away.

Axel had no clue why Dwayne was acting weird today. He caught his breath, forced a smile, and looked up. "What's up, Dwayne? Just spit it out."

Dwayne looked around to make sure no one else was on the rooftop and then spoke in a low voice, "I took a couple of days off, and now everyone seems to be all about Ms. Williams. What's the deal?"

Axel didn't really like Dwayne, mostly because he was kinda dumb and just went with the flow without his own opinions. Plus, Dwayne had annoyed some folks in the company by being clueless.

But since Dwayne asked, Axel didn't hold back. Everyone already knew anyway. "You know the company had some issues recently, right?"

Dwayne scratched his head. "Yeah, I know." He'd taken time off because the company was too busy, and everyone was working overtime.

Axel continued, "Now that things are sorted, do you know who make it?"

Dwayne shook his head and gave Axel a pat. "Come on, Axel, just tell me. Stop being so mysterious."

"Ms. Williams, of course. The answer's right in front of you." Axel rolled his eyes and kept smoking.

Dwayne scratched his head, still puzzled. "She... solved all those problems at once? But didn't the Percy Group pull their investment? Ms. Williams managed to convince Mr. Percy?"

Axel blew a smoke ring and glanced at him. "Does she need to solve them one by one? These issues are nothing to Mr. Percy."

Seeing Dwayne still looking confused, Axel stubbed out his cigarette and pulled Dwayne down to squat with him. "Dwayne, do you think it's possible that Mr. Percy likes Ms. Williams and helped her out?"

"But the Percy Group was the first to have financial issues," Dwayne said, still not getting it.

Axel patted his shoulder and continued, "Ms. Williams used to be Mr. Percy's secretary. You know what that means, right?"

Axel raised an eyebrow and gave Dwayne a look.

Dwayne seemed to get it and suddenly had a knowing look. "You mean Ms. Williams is actually Mr. Percy's lover?"

Axel nodded. "Something like that. They probably had a fight, so he pulled the investment to scare her. They have made up again, and now the company is back on track."

Dwayne listened to the gossip about Clara with great interest but couldn't help but complain, "Rich people sure know how to play. A little argument almost cost us our jobs."

Axel nodded in agreement, stood up, and stretched. Dwayne followed Axel and asked, "What about the other manager, Ms. Spencer? She seems pretty impressive too, smart and capable."

Axel paused and snorted, "Her? She hasn't shown up in ages. I bet it won't be long before the whole company belongs to Ms. Williams."

Dwayne nodded, thinking Diana was just like him, bailing when things got tough. They chatted a bit more, and when Axel checked the time, he realized they had been slacking off for almost 20 minutes. He quickly headed back to the office.

When Axel got back, he noticed everyone looked serious and busy. He tapped Nia Stevens at the next desk and whispered, "What's going on? I thought today was supposed to be chill?"

Nia slid her chair over, covering her mouth with one hand and whispering, "Ms. Spencer is here. Didn't two people from her team transfer to ours yesterday? They just got called in for questioning."

Axel's eyes widened, almost forgetting about that. "Do you think Ms. Spencer will fire them?"

Nia shook her head. "I don't know. Just get back to work. Even if there's nothing to do, find something to look busy with."

Axel thanked Nia and, like everyone else, put on a serious expression, but his eyes kept darting toward the office.

Inside, Diana looked at the two employees in front of her. They had been quite active in the team, but now they looked uneasy with their heads down.

Diana crossed her hands, elbows resting on the desk, and asked, "I called you in with no bad intentions. I just wanted to know why you suddenly wanted to transfer teams?"

She was trying to understand if there were any internal issues causing strife.

The older employee was silent for a moment and then spoke, "No particular reason, Ms. Spencer. You're great. We just got interested in Ms. Williams' project and wanted to switch teams. Thank you for not holding it against us."

Diana raised an eyebrow. "Really? But I remember you weren't very optimistic about her project initially. In fact, you pointed out the biggest problem in their team. Now you want to work on a more challenging project?"

The older employee bit his lip and didn't respond. But the younger one retorted, "Ms. Spencer, we're here to work. Now we want to choose a new leader. Since you agreed, there's nothing more to say. Sometimes, saying too much isn't good for anyone."

As soon as he finished speaking, the older employee nudged him and apologized to Diana, "Sorry, Ms. Spencer. But we have made the decision."

The younger one stepped back and frowned. "You don't need to apologize for me. I'll take responsibility for my actions."

Diana watched the two of them, feeling like she was watching a drama. She didn't expect to become the villain in this story, so she interrupted, "Both of you, I said I have no bad intentions. I already agreed to your transfer yesterday. I don't care about your departure; I just want to know the reason so I can adjust my work plan."

"Fine, I'll be straightforward. Ms. Spencer, you know this company wasn't originally part of the Percy Group. You and Ms. Williams both came to manage the company, but when things went wrong, it was Ms. Williams who went to Mr. Percy for help."
