Chapter 372 Seek Her Forgiveness
Her heart softened. She had been a bit angry, but seeing Benjamin standing there unharmed, her anger melted away.
This was her son. As long as he was okay, nothing else mattered.
The tension in the room eased because of Benjamin. Milan smiled and replied, "Thanks for the compliment."
Benjamin watched Milan bandage the wound and said, "You gotta make sure Mr. Percy gets better."
"Of course."
Once the bandaging was done, Milan stood up, nodded at Nolan, and said, "All set. But make sure to go to the hospital afterward. We'll be heading out now."
"Wait!"
Two voices rang out simultaneously, one young and one deep.
Charles and Benjamin exchanged glances, both puzzled as to why the other had spoken.
Seeing Diana about to leave, Benjamin panicked. What would he do if she left?
Before Charles could say anything, Benjamin suggested, "What if Mr. Percy's wound gets worse? You should stay, so you can help immediately if needed."
Charles raised an eyebrow at Benjamin's concern and then smiled slightly. "Nolan, thank your friends. Once this is over, let's have them stay for dinner."
Nolan stiffened, thinking he must have misheard. 'Thank you? Is this really Charles? Did he just thank me?'
It wasn't that Charles was usually rude, but he was never particularly polite to his subordinates.
Nolan didn't mind. After all, considering how much he was paid, serving Charles was part of the job.
He stood there, a bit stunned, and managed to say, "Okay."
Milan, hearing this, politely nodded to both of them. "Thanks for the offer, but Nolan and I are friends. It was no trouble at all, no need to treat us to dinner."
He had brought Diana in, so he had to take her out. Staying for dinner wasn't an option.
Diana was the most conflicted. Staying meant risking exposure, but leaving meant she couldn't take Benjamin with her.
Faced with this dilemma, Diana chose to stay silent and let fate decide.
"I said, stay," Charles commanded, leaving no room for argument.
Nolan gave Milan a look and said, "Then please wait here."
With that, he stepped forward to support Charles.
As they reached the door, Charles paused and glanced back.
It was unclear who he was looking at.
Once they left the room, Milan shrugged at Diana. "Sorry, I couldn't refuse."
"It's okay."
No one had expected this situation.
After they left, Benjamin didn't speak to Diana immediately. Instead, he rushed to the door and opened it.
Two men in black stood guard outside. Seeing him, they reminded him, "Benjamin, don't wander off."
Benjamin quickly retreated, looking dejected. He turned to Diana.
Mother and son locked eyes, and his eyes reddened. He wanted to call her "Mommy" but held back because of Milan.
Seeing this, Milan opened the bathroom door and stepped inside, saying as he closed the door, "Suddenly, my stomach hurts."
He was just an ordinary doctor helping out friends. He knew nothing about the rest.
Once the door was closed, Diana opened her arms to Benjamin.
Benjamin's lips quivered, and he ran into her embrace, his fluffy head nuzzling her neck, tickling her.
"Mommy, I missed you so much. I'm sorry, Mommy."
Benjamin clung to Diana's clothes, sobbing softly.
It was his fault Diana had to take such a big risk to save him.
Diana's heart melted at his tears. She cupped his face, wiped away his tears, and kissed his cheek.
"Sweetheart, I'm not mad."
She pressed her forehead against his, rubbing noses.
Benjamin blinked and rubbed back.
This was their little ritual. Whenever he did something wrong, he would seek her forgiveness this way, and her response meant she forgave him.
Benjamin wrapped his arms around her neck, clinging to her like a sloth. "Mommy, I want to go home."
Diana gently pulled his hands away and asked, "How do you feel about meeting your dad?"
She wasn't teasing; she genuinely wanted to know his thoughts.
Since Benjamin was old enough to understand, Diana had never hidden his father's identity from him. She had told him everything, including the things Charles had done.
Dean also talked to Benjamin about Charles, often with personal bias.
Benjamin had come to know Charles through Diana and Dean's stories.
As an "abandoned" son, Benjamin initially hated him. But after today's events, his feelings began to waver.
Now, Charles thought he was Zachary's son and still protected him so fiercely. What if he knew Benjamin was his real son?
Benjamin couldn't imagine.
But realizing his feelings were changing, he felt scared.
It felt like he was betraying Diana.
Diana had endured so much to raise him with Dean. How could he switch sides after just a few days with Charles?
It wasn't fair to Diana.
That was why Benjamin desperately wanted to go home. He didn't want to be a traitor.
The role of a father had never been part of his life. Now that he had met Charles, he felt no regret.
"Mommy, I want to go home. I don't want to stay here."
Benjamin avoided her question, speaking softly.
Diana understood but still said, "Benjamin, I want you to decide for yourself. If you think he's good..."
"No! No, Mommy, are you going to leave me?"
Benjamin interrupted, realizing the gravity of the situation.
Why was Diana saying this?
Was she planning to give him to Charles because of his stubbornness and mischief?
Tears streamed down Benjamin's face. He kissed Diana's face repeatedly, "Mommy, I'm sorry. Please take me home. I won't see him again."
Diana sighed, pinching his cheek and pretending to be stern, "Listen to me!"
Benjamin shut his mouth, but tears kept falling.
"If you think he's good, I'll beat you! I carried you for nine months, gave birth to you, and raised you. And you just run off with him? I might as well have given birth to a pizza."
Benjamin sniffled and quickly pledged his loyalty, "I won't. I love you the most, Mommy. Mr. Percy saved me, and I thanked him. I didn't plan to run off with him."
Hearing him call Charles "Mr. Percy" made Diana laugh. She gently wiped his tears and said softly, "I love you too. I'll take you home, but we need to find the right moment."
"Okay!" Benjamin's eyes lit up, and he nodded eagerly.
But remembering her earlier words, he muttered, "Mommy, I'm more useful than a pizza. You can't compare me to a pizza."
Diana laughed out loud, tapping his nose playfully, "But pizza is tastier than you."
