Chapter 107 The Beast of Serenity Grove Manor
When she walked to the window, she saw nothing.
Victoria furrowed her brow. Was she hallucinating?
Why did she feel like she just heard a beast's roar?
Just as she was about to turn back, the bedroom door opened.
Her senses kicked in. She spun around, eyes wide, staring at the enormous white tiger in the bedroom.
She froze. How could there be a tiger in Serenity Grove Manor?
Victoria and the tiger locked eyes through the glass.
The tiger stood there, baring its teeth, looking hostile.
Victoria stayed still, then mouthed, "Shall we talk?"
She silently thanked Benjamin Hayes for making her learn animal taming. Without it, she'd be toast against this tiger.
Meanwhile, Kimberly was about to sleep when someone knocked on her door.
She opened it to find Matthew Torres. "What's up?" she asked.
"Caesar is missing!" Matthew said.
"What?" Kimberly was shocked.
"I went to get something, and he ran out. I've looked everywhere," Matthew explained.
"Could he be in the woods?" Kimberly asked.
"He just got back from there; no way," Matthew replied.
Suddenly, Kimberly had a thought. "Oh no! He might be in Mr. Howard's room. He must think Mr. Howard is back."
Kimberly grabbed something from her bedside table and ran towards the main building, with Matthew following.
They reached the main building in three minutes. Seeing the master bedroom door open, their hearts raced. Kimberly remembered Alexander's instructions: if anything happened to Victoria, she was done.
But when they entered, they were stunned.
The scene was unexpectedly calm.
On the carpet, the giant white tiger lay like a dog, letting Victoria pet it. Kimberly was shocked.
Victoria looked at Kimberly and Matthew, who had rushed in with a black handgun. She was surprised.
The tiger growled at them, recognizing the two.
They put away their guns.
"Sorry for the disturbance, Mrs. Howard. Are you okay?" Kimberly asked, regaining her composure.
"Don't worry, I'm fine." Victoria sat next to the tiger, stroking its fur. "What's his name?"
"His name is Caesar," Kimberly replied.
Caesar growled gently at hearing his name.
Victoria looked at him. "So your name is Caesar."
Caesar adorably rubbed his head against Victoria's legs.
Kimberly and Matthew were dumbfounded. 'Caesar, you're a tiger. Where's your dignity?'
"Mrs. Howard, I'm Matthew Torres. It's my fault. I usually take care of Caesar. Sorry he ran out tonight," Matthew apologized.
Victoria glanced at him. He was a sunny, handsome young man with a buzz cut.
"It's okay. He didn't hurt me." She asked, "Has he always been here?"
"Yes, he belongs to Mr. Howard. He probably ran here thinking Mr. Howard was back. He hasn't seen him for a month," Matthew explained.
"I see." Victoria nodded.
"You can go back now. Let him stay here," she said.
After confirming everything was fine, they left.
Outside, they were still a bit stunned.
Matthew said, "How did Mrs. Howard get Caesar to be so obedient? It took me three months to get him to listen to me a little. But she did it in less than half a day. It's amazing. Caesar even looks like he's trying to please her. Besides Mr. Howard, he never acts like this with anyone else."
Kimberly replied, "To be precise, it was less than an hour!"
Matthew fell silent.
