Chapter 300 Grant Meets Victoria

At Vertex Holdings Group, Victoria finished watching the video Dylan had given her. It was the surveillance footage from outside Esme's ward back in the day. The day before Esme passed away, besides Simon, two strangers—a man and a woman—visited her ward.

Victoria looked up at Dylan and asked, "Who are they?"

Dylan replied, "They're from Hughes family, Algernon and his sister Kaitlyn."

Victoria's eyes narrowed. Esme never had any dealings with the Hughes family, so why did they visit?

If there were any connections, it would be with the Tudor family. Although Heather was from the Hughes family, as far as she knew, Heather had little contact with the Hughes family after marrying into the Tudor family.

The next day, Victoria got the news that Esme had passed away, without any warning. And she didn't even get to see Esme one last time because she was locked in a room that day. By the time the housemaid found her and let her out in the afternoon, it was too late because Simon had already cremated Esme's body within three hours of her passing.

Later, she found out that not only did she not see Esme, but even Thalia didn't get to see her.

If the person Simon cremated wasn't Esme but someone else, it would explain why he was in such a hurry to cremate the body and not let anyone see it.

But if that person wasn't Esme, then who was it?

Dylan interrupted her thoughts, saying, "Mrs. Howard, please scroll further; there's another video."

Victoria lightly swiped her finger on the tablet and clicked play. The quality of these videos wasn't very clear, given how much time had passed. Although the footage was somewhat blurry, the people in the video were still recognizable.

Simon and Kaitlyn appeared at the funeral home, just half an hour after Esme was cremated. And this time, Kaitlyn was holding Simon's arm, and both had smiles on their faces.

Victoria's brows furrowed slightly, and a suspicion flashed through her mind. It seemed Simon had hidden things well.

From a storage card she got from Ethan earlier, she learned that Simon had an illegitimate child, but she couldn't find out who the mother was. It turned out to be Kaitlyn.

But with this, she couldn't confront Simon yet. Currently, only he and Kaitlyn knew what happened that day.

Victoria also noticed a familiar face in the first video, someone she had just met. But she knew that if she went to ask him now, he wouldn't tell her and would just give her various excuses. If he wanted to tell her, he would have done so the first time they met. It seemed she needed to find a way to draw those people out again.

After watching, she pondered for a moment before speaking to Dylan again, "Dylan, I need you to do something for me."

Dylan replied, "Go ahead."

Meanwhile, Grant had just arrived at Vertex Holdings Group and was taking the elevator up. He had just returned and received news that Victoria was at Vertex Holdings Group. Since he had some free time, he decided to come find her.

Victoria had just finished giving Dylan some instructions when the office door swung open. Both of them thought it was Alexander coming back from his meeting, but it was Grant who walked in.

Victoria raised an eyebrow slightly and greeted him politely, "Grant."

Dylan chimed in, "Mr. Scott."

Grant gave a slight nod and then made his way over to the sofa, plopping down. Dylan, being Alexander's assistant for years, could sense the weird vibe in the room. He quickly said, "Mrs. Howard, I'll go get a cup of coffee for Mr. Scott."

Victoria noticed Grant's unfriendly demeanor and decided to play it cool. She gave a faint, elegant smile, keeping her composure.

"Are you here to discuss business with Alexander? He's still in a meeting and should be back soon," she asked.

Grant's presence was just as imposing as Alexander's, both arrogant and mature. He lowered his gaze slightly and said, "I'm not here for him."

He paused for a moment, then stared at her and continued, "I'm here for you!"

"For me?" She played dumb, "Grant, I no longer manage Horizon Group. If you want to discuss business, you've got the wrong person."

But Grant was direct. "I'm here to discuss Marlowe's matter!"

She hadn't expected Grant to be so straightforward, so she decided not to keep pretending.

She cleared her throat and said, "What do you want to discuss?"

Grant was clear in his objective, demanding, "Tell me her whereabouts."

Victoria didn't answer him right away. She scrutinized him with her bright eyes, trying to read his face, but found nothing. She couldn't tell if he was hiding it well or if that was just how he was.

Grant wasn't in a hurry either. She had dragged this out for so long that a bit more time wouldn't make a difference. His people had been shadowing her for ages without uncovering anything, so he had no choice but to confront her directly. He had asked her out several times before, but she had always refused. In his life, no one had ever dared to defy him like this, except for Marlowe, who had been acting strangely and frequently mentioning divorce recently, and now Victoria.

After a long silence, Victoria asked, "Grant, can you give me a reason to tell you Marlowe's whereabouts?"

The reason had to convince her.

Grant fell silent. At this moment, Dylan walked in with the coffee.

"Mr. Scott, here's your coffee. Enjoy," Dylan said.

After setting it down, Dylan quickly left. Once outside, he took a deep breath, thinking to himself, 'Oh my God, the atmosphere in there is suffocating.'

Should he inform Alexander? But Alexander was currently in a shareholders' meeting and couldn't be interrupted. Then he decided not to interfere, as there hadn't been anyone who could get the better of Victoria yet.

Believing that Victoria was very capable, Dylan returned to his work and immediately started on the tasks Victoria had just assigned.
