Chapter 15: Don't Be So Nice to Me

Not long after, Dylan walked in, stood respectfully in front of the coffee table, and said, "Mr. Howard, Mrs. Howard's door has been fixed."

Dylan felt something was off but couldn't quite figure out what.

An hour later, Alexander went in to check Victoria's temperature. Thankfully, the fever had gone down. He sighed quietly. "The fever's gone. When she wakes up, give her some light porridge first, then the medicine. She should be fine after a couple of days' rest."

Owen adjusted his glasses and calmly added, "By the way, I noticed she has a lot of chocolate and candy at home. She probably has severe hypoglycemia. As long as there's no bleeding, there shouldn't be any major issues." He reminded again before leaving.

With nothing more to do, he left to take care of other matters.

Victoria didn't know how long she'd slept. When she groggily woke up, it was already three in the afternoon. She propped herself up on her slender arm and slowly sat up in bed. She rubbed her forehead. Her head was still a bit swollen, but not as heavy. It seemed like the fever had subsided after a nap.

After a few seconds, she noticed the bandage on her left hand had been changed. She stared at it for a few seconds, and hazy memories flashed through her mind. It seemed like she had received a phone call and vaguely saw Alexander's familiar figure. But she felt so awful at the time, her mind was foggy, and she couldn't tell if it was real or not.

'If it wasn't real, then who changed the dressing on my wound?'

Just as this thought crossed her mind, the door to her room opened. She looked up abruptly and met a pair of deep eyes at the door. Victoria was stunned! She saw Alexander, tall and dressed in a black suit, standing at her door.

'Is this a dream?' she wondered.

"You're awake. Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?" Alexander walked gracefully towards the bed, his gentle and pleasant voice sounding. By the time Victoria reacted, Alexander was already standing in front of her, just half a step away.

Before she could speak, she saw Alexander squat down in front of her, their eyes meeting again. Victoria was completely bewildered. It seemed like she wasn't dreaming; the Alexander in front of her was real!

After squatting down, Alexander extended his well-defined hand and gently placed the back of it on her forehead. Her forehead was slightly warm, and he felt a bit of temperature. The next second, she heard Alexander murmur, "No more fever."

Victoria watched his series of actions, blinked, her almond eyes full of surprise and confusion, and asked, "Why are you here?"

Alexander didn't miss her surprise and confusion. He raised his hand to rub her head, his lips slightly curved, his eyes full of tenderness and affection for her. "Be good, eat something first, and I'll explain later."

She hadn't eaten anything for a long time and had been tormented by the fever for so long. At this moment, at Victoria's most vulnerable moment of illness, her heart was also the softest. She was just a regular person, who had to disguise her true self because of certain circumstances. She also longed for someone to truly care for and love her.

So Alexander's tenderness at this moment moved her deeply. However, she was so afraid that all of this was a dream, afraid that she would become dependent on this feeling of being cared for.

Her almond eyes, moist and glistening, were somewhat dim, somewhat fearful, and filled with indescribable emotions. She stared intently at Alexander, who was squatting in front of her, and softly called out, "Alexander."

"I'm here, go ahead." Alexander naturally responded to her.

"Don't be so good to me. Your tenderness, your care, I'm afraid I'll become dependent on you." Victoria, overly calm, stared at him with her clear almond eyes and voiced her inner thoughts. She didn't want to give him or herself any expectations.
