Chapter 217 It's So Good to Have You
Dylan couldn't hold it in and griped, "Man, he's being such a jerk. Even if you hadn't bailed on him, someone else would have, and his company would've tanked eventually."
Everyone got the point.
She was the first to ditch Matteo.
But no matter what Matteo said, there were always doubts.
He had a ton of debt and suddenly cleared it. That alone was super sketchy.
If he had paid it off himself, why would he pick now to off her? Wouldn't he want to enjoy life?
Doing something that'd land him in prison for life? Not smart.
The guy said, "Boss, Matteo didn't pull it off. He got nabbed too."
A dude lounged on the sofa, legs crossed, a cigarette dangling from his fingers, head tilted back, blowing out smoke rings.
"Useless!" The guy on the sofa squinted and spat out in a raspy, pissed-off voice.
The guy standing next to him just hung his head and kept quiet.
The guy on the sofa, eyes cold as ice, stared at a bare tree outside the window and barked, "Wipe out all the evidence!"
The standing guy nodded, "Got it, Boss."
Victoria's phone buzzed a few times. She pulled it out and saw a bunch of messages.
In a group chat with three people, Lila had sent a video. Without even opening it, Victoria glanced at the thumbnail and knew what it was.
There were a few words under the video.
[Girl, you should be in action movies.]
[Your dodging skills are better than the pros.]
Victoria paused for a sec before replying: [Aren't you gonna ask if I'm okay?]
Lila shot back quickly: [I know you're fine.]
Victoria: [How do you know?]
Lila: [Alexander didn't call Owen. He's Alexander's personal doc.]
Victoria was speechless.
Was Owen the only doc in the world?
But Lila had a point; Owen was Alexander's go-to doc.
Lila kept going: [Spill the tea, what happened?]
Victoria suddenly thought of something and asked: [Where'd you get this video?]
Lila: [Online.]
Victoria squinted and was about to close Facebook when Lila sent another message: [But I saved it quick. You can't find it online anymore; it's been scrubbed clean.]
Victoria look at Alexander beside her. Alexander looked back at her. "What's up?" he asked.
As soon as he asked, Victoria threw herself into his arms.
Alexander was a bit taken aback. What was going on?
But he still wrapped an arm around her waist and supported her back to keep her from falling.
Marcus, who was driving, and Dylan, riding shotgun, glanced through the rearview mirror and then focused back on the road.
"It's so good to have you," Victoria murmured in his ear, lying on his broad shoulder.
Alexander held her back with one hand and gently stroked the back of her head with the other, like calming a kid.
The car was filled with Alexander's low chuckle, his face carrying a smile, and he said in a deep, magnetic voice, "Just now figuring out it's good to have me around?"
She looked at Alexander's reflection in the car window and her face, and a happy smile appeared. "Since I met you, I feel like I'm not so lonely anymore."
The car went silent for a few seconds, even the dust floating in the air seemed to pause out of sympathy for her words.
She said it with a smile, but to Alexander, it made his heart ache.
Before meeting Alexander, her world only had Thalia as her closest relative, but Thalia was already old and couldn't always be with Victoria.
So, most of the time, she was alone and had gotten used to handling everything by herself.
But recently, he had been with her. She thought she wouldn't get used to it, but on the contrary, she was very used to it and might even become dependent.
After a long while, Alexander's gentle voice came to her ear, with a hint of apology. "I'm sorry, I came too late."
Alexander's heart twisted with pain, as if a thousand tiny daggers were stabbing at it. If he could have kept her by his side earlier, she wouldn't have entertained such thoughts.
"Not late at all." Victoria shook her head gently on his shoulder. "I think it's just right."
She really thought it was just right.
Dylan and Marcus in the front could only pretend not to hear their conversation.
Alexander's gentleness only appeared in front of Victoria, and Victoria's dependent look only showed in front of Alexander.
Otherwise, they were both quite fierce.
Thinking of Victoria challenging all the bodyguards in Serenity Grove Manor alone, the two shivered. No one had ever dared to be so audacious, especially a woman.
The two exchanged a glance. Victoria and Alexander were indeed a perfect match.
