Chapter 51 Marlowe's Past
"Yeah, that's the story. My mom told me. The Rivera family is pretty well-known in Riverdale. After that incident, the Marlowe family went back to their hometown and never returned," Lila said, feeling a bit sorry. She knew Marlowe. She used to stay with the Rivera family during vacations. When the incident happened, she was studying abroad and only found out when she got back.
"I haven't seen her in like five or six years," Lila added.
Victoria, puzzled, asked, "Don't they come back to the Scott family home for holidays?"
Lila sighed, "My uncle Grant never brings Marlowe back to the Scott family home."
"My mom also said that when they got married, they didn't invite anyone. It was just the two of them, and Marlowe wore her sister's wedding dress," Lila said, feeling bad for Marlowe.
Victoria was shocked, thinking about the delicate Marlowe. She must have been so sad.
At the Kennedy Family house.
"Dad, are we bringing Mom back for Halloween this year?" Simon asked Oliver, who was at the head of the table.
Elodie and Clara exchanged looks but stayed quiet.
Oliver looked serious. After a long pause, he said, "Of course."
"Grandpa Kennedy, I'll go with Mom and Dad to bring Grandma Kennedy back. I'm her granddaughter, and I can help convince her," Clara said, trying to be the understanding and sensible one.
Oliver looked at her with relief. Clara was a blessing to the Kennedy family.
He knew Thalia didn't like Elodie and Clara, but Clara never complained and always treated Thalia kindly. It was rare to see such a kind heart.
"Alright, you can go with them," Oliver said.
"Okay, Grandpa Kennedy, don't worry. We'll bring Grandma back," Clara said confidently. She believed she could persuade the stubborn Thalia.
In the afternoon, after work, Victoria and Lila went to Starlight Diner together.
As soon as they walked in, they saw Marlowe on the first floor.
"Marlowe?"
Marlowe looked up, surprised to see Lila, "Lila."
Lila hugged her, whispering, "Marlowe, it's been so long."
Marlowe chuckled and patted her back, "Yeah, it's been a while."
After they separated, Marlowe looked at Lila and Victoria, "Do you two know each other?"
"Marlowe, this is my good friend," Lila introduced.
Marlowe was surprised but envious of their friendship.
"Marlowe," Victoria greeted with a smile.
Marlowe was surprised she didn't call her Mrs. Scott but was happy. She thought Victoria was cold but was glad to see her warm smile.
She smiled gently and responded softly.
Victoria looked at Marlowe, remembering what Lila said about the Rivera family. Marlowe was indeed well-educated, gentle, and lovely.
Victoria didn't see any inferiority in Marlowe. Instead, she saw elegance and intelligence. Marlowe's natural beauty and unique temperament made her even more charming.
The three women standing on the first floor quickly caught everyone's eye.
"Wow, they're so beautiful and elegant. Must be from wealthy families," someone said.
"I've never seen such stunning women in Riverdale. They look better than celebrities," another added.
The three of them exchanged smiles.
"Let's head upstairs," Victoria suggested.
They entered the exclusive elevator. Victoria scanned her face, and it went straight to the top floor.
Lila, staring at the floor indicator, asked, "Are we going to the top floor?"
Victoria replied casually, "Starlight Diner belongs to him."
Lila swallowed hard, impressed. "Alexander is amazing."
No one knew who owned Starlight Diner, but everyone knew the top floor was off-limits to outsiders. Lila never thought she'd ever visit it.
Feeling lucky, Lila hugged Victoria's arm. "I've decided. I'm going to be super nice to you from now on."
Victoria patted her head and smiled, "Alright."
Marlowe watched Lila clinging to Victoria, finding it adorable and envying their friendship.
If she hadn't married Grant, maybe her life would be different. But there were no "ifs" in life.
Victoria noticed Marlowe's low mood through the elevator mirror and gave Lila a look. Lila got the hint.
"Marlowe, if you're ever bored, come hang out with us. We're both in Riverdale," Lila said, grabbing Marlowe's hand.
Marlowe was startled by the sudden gesture.
"Yeah, Marlowe, join us anytime," Victoria added. She wasn't great at socializing but felt a connection with Marlowe.
Marlowe, touched, nodded.
They happily added each other on Facebook and created a group chat. That was how simple friendships could be.
Meanwhile, in the private room with Alexander and the others, the atmosphere was also harmonious.
Caleb looked at Grant, who had an unapproachable aura, and asked, "Where's Marlowe? I saw her come in, but she's not here."
"Why? Worried about her?" Grant narrowed his eyes, looking aggressive.
Caleb fell silent, realizing he shouldn't have asked.
Everyone said Alexander was cold and unapproachable, but Grant was even scarier. Despite his usual silence, when he got angry, no one could compare. Alexander was cold to outsiders because he always had someone he liked in his heart. They recently found out it was Victoria, his current wife. He had hidden it well.
Grant's eyes flashed coldly at the mention of Marlowe.
He had deliberately left her on the first floor. To get to the top floor, one had to scan their face, and Marlowe didn't have that privilege.
But it had been five or six minutes, and she hadn't called or texted him, nor had anyone come up to report. Had she left?
