Chapter 200 Donna's Identity
Todd and Alfonso were totally caught off guard seeing Victoria there.
Victoria squinted, like she just remembered something important.
They all had the last name Romero, and Donna, lying inside, was also a Romero. Could it really be just a coincidence?
Victoria zeroed in on Alfonso and asked, "Mr. Romero, you here to see Donna?"
Todd was a bit taken aback that Victoria knew Alfonso and Donna.
Alfonso nodded, looking all serious, and said, "She's my sister."
Victoria was still kinda shocked by that.
"And who's this?" She then looked at Todd.
Todd knew Victoria didn't want anyone to know they were tight, so he played along. "Hey, I'm their uncle, Todd Romero."
Victoria's mouth twitched.
They really were a family.
She didn't expect such a twist. Both Harrington and Todd were Donna's uncles. Looked like Donna's family was pretty well-off. From what she knew, the Edwards and Romero families were big in politics.
Victoria walked them back to the ward and gave a quick rundown of how Donna got hurt.
They had rushed over after seeing the news.
Alfonso, being sharp because of his job, noticed something was off right after Victoria finished talking.
Todd, used to being in high places, was naturally sharp too. They both had the same thought.
"Don't worry, I'll get to the bottom of this," Victoria said, since Donna was from their company.
They looked at the still-unconscious Donna, their eyes filled with hidden anger.
Todd sighed. "Good thing her parents are on a business trip. If they saw Donna like this, they'd be devastated."
Donna had always been the apple of the eye for both the Romero and Edwards families.
After all, she was the only daughter of this generation in both families.
"Ms. Kennedy, what's your plan here? Before I came, I found out you haven't thought about calling the cops," Alfonso suddenly asked, his tone heavy with anger and suspicion.
Todd felt a bit uneasy. Donna was hurt, and he definitely wanted to handle it, but Victoria was important too. He felt stuck.
He was about to say, "We can..."
But Victoria cut him off, "Mr. Alfonso Romero, calling the cops needs evidence, right?" She got his feelings, so she calmly said, "I've already got someone looking into it. The wire that broke was chewed halfway by a rat, and the surveillance was normal, no shady characters found."
Alfonso said, "That just means the other side had a foolproof plan and left no traces."
Victoria explained, "That's exactly why we find it suspicious. But police work isn't based on gut feelings, you know that. I get your concern for Donna. We haven't called the cops yet because we don't want to tip off the other side."
She continued, "Since it was intentional, they must've left something behind. It's just a matter of time. I promise we'll get to the bottom of it. Donna represents our company, and it's my duty to find out the truth."
After Victoria finished, Alfonso felt a bit embarrassed. He hadn't thought things through calmly, and everything she said made sense.
Alfonso apologized, "Sorry, Ms. Kennedy, I was harsh just now."
Alfonso was naturally tough and serious. He was always efficient at work and never made mistakes because he never judged based on feelings, only evidence. Just now, he had forgotten that basic rule because the victim was Donna. Nothing should be judged based on feelings, especially in their line of work.
Victoria said lightly, "It's okay." Then, as if she remembered something, she added, "There's one more thing I need your help with."
Alfonso looked at her and nodded. "Sure, go ahead."
