Chapter 434 I Changed My Mind
Victoria and her team quickly found Eugene, but she discovered he was alone.
"I led them away, came back, and Mr. York was gone," Eugene said.
Eugene felt guilty. He searched the area but couldn't find him.
Victoria frowned. She knew it wasn't Eugene's fault; she understood George's temperament and knew he must have overthought things again.
And since there were no signs of a struggle, he must have left on his own.
"Search separately. Marigold, you're with me. Eugene, you take Russell. Remember, don't engage directly!" she instructed.
Because their equipment was incomplete, direct confrontation often put them at a disadvantage.
Both responded in unison, "Yes."
George indeed left on his own, just as Victoria thought.
He knew his current situation and didn't want to be a burden to them.
So, he decided to find a place to hide by himself.
But sometimes, fate had a sense of humor. It just so happened that he ran into Ronnie.
"Mr. York, where are you going?" Ronnie sneered.
In an instant, George was surrounded.
Ronnie stood there with a wicked smile, pressing his tongue against his back teeth. He said, "I never thought you would have such a miserable day."
George glanced at him indifferently, saying nothing.
Ronnie glanced at his right leg and sneered, "It's a pity about that leg of yours."
Suddenly, Ronnie squinted and looked up, staring at George. "Tell me, if I use your other leg to trade with her, do you think she'd agree?"
After saying that, he burst into laughter.
George pressed his lips together, his face turning serious. The usually calm man now showed a hint of anger. "Ronnie, you lunatic!"
Ronnie sneered, "Yes, I am indeed a lunatic." As he spoke, he laughed, a sound that traveled from his chest through his throat, both sinister and eerie. His voice grew deeper, "I'll be even crazier in a moment." Then he turned to his people. "Take him away!"
Victoria and Marigold circled around but found no trace of George.
"Ms. Kennedy, what is that?" Marigold raised her hand, pointing to a tree not far ahead.
Victoria turned and looked in the direction she pointed.
The two approached the tree.
A piece of fabric was tied to a branch.
She reached out and untied it.
If she remembered correctly, this fabric was from the clothes George was wearing today.
Marigold noticed her change in expression. "Ms. Kennedy, what's wrong? Is there something wrong with this fabric?"
Victoria said, "If I remember correctly, this is from George's clothes."
Marigold was surprised, "Then Mr. York..."
A bad premonition flashed through Victoria's mind.
Marigold saw her frowning. "Where would they take Mr. York? They wouldn't go back to the original place, would they?"
"No." Victoria didn't claim to know Ronnie well, but he definitely wouldn't go back to the original place.
She quickly recalled the terrain map she had seen before, thinking if there was any place nearby where Ronnie might take George.
At the edge of a cliff.
A light rain was falling from the sky, landing on people's heads and their black clothes, forming a layer of crystal-clear dew.
Ronnie's men stood in two rows on either side, while he stood in the middle.
"Not bad, you came faster than I expected," Ronnie said coldly.
His green eyes were unusually eerie, staring straight at Victoria, who appeared on the cliff.
She ignored him, scanning the area but not seeing George.
Her eyes cold, she asked, "Ronnie, where did you hide George?"
Ronnie sneered, "Don't be in such a hurry; you'll see him soon."
Victoria watched him impassively, waiting for his next words.
Then she saw his lips curl into an evil smile. He raised his right hand, lightly hooking his index and middle fingers, and said, "Bring our esteemed Mr. York up."
A stood to his right. "Yes, master."
She immediately frowned, and beside her, Marigold did the same. Both looked at A simultaneously and saw him walk to the edge of the cliff, where a large tree stood.
Only then did they notice a hemp rope tied to the thickest branch.
The other end of the rope was tied to the tree trunk.
A untied the knot on the tree trunk and called two more people to help.
Soon, George appeared. His hands and feet were tied with hemp rope, leaving him hanging off the cliff. He looked weak at the moment. She could understand how extremely uncomfortable it must be, especially since one of his legs was a prosthetic.
She had guessed when Ronnie spoke to A.
But when the scene actually appeared before her eyes, she was still shocked and furious.
Her hands, hanging by her sides, slowly clenched into fists.
Her eyes turned red, and she suddenly turned to Ronnie. "Don't you just want the data from the K experiment? I'll give it to you, just let him go!"
Ronnie reached out and touched his eyebrow, smiling, clicking his tongue. "No wonder you're the woman I fancy, even begging is so unique."
Victoria pressed her lips together, the coldness in her eyes only intensifying.
Then she heard him say, "I've changed my mind now."
She stared at him. "What do you mean?"
