Chapter 276 Alfonso Arrives
In the living room, Alfonso was sitting up straight on the couch.
"Mr. Romero?" Victoria looked a bit surprised to see him.
"Mrs. Howard, sorry for dropping by unannounced," Alfonso said, standing up and looking at her.
Victoria sat down on the couch across from him and asked, "Please, have a seat. How's Donna doing?"
Since Donna had an accident on set and was taken home by her family a week later, they hadn't seen each other. However, Lila had mentioned that Donna was able to walk again.
Alfonso sat back down, a polite smile on his face. "She's fine now, just needs some rest."
He was the typical sunny, rugged type of guy, with a clean short haircut that suited his demeanor and handsome features.
"That's good. So, what brings you here?" she asked.
Alfonso then took out two personal resumes from the folder he had brought and asked, "Do you recognize these two people?" He placed them on the coffee table, pressing the papers with two fingers and gently pushing them towards her.
Victoria squinted slightly, lowering her gaze to look at the documents in front of her.
She glanced at the first one, picked it up, and then scanned the second one. The whole process took less than three seconds. She shook her head, "I don't know them." She really didn't know them.
While she was looking at the documents, Alfonso was also observing her—not out of suspicion, just out of professional habit.
Victoria knew Alfonso wouldn't ask her about these two people for no reason. "Mr. Romero, just say what you need to say."
Alfonso paused before speaking, "They were your mother's people."
Victoria instinctively frowned and asked, "So what?"
"Do you remember the incident with Ethan's death?" Alfonso suddenly shifted the topic to Ethan.
Victoria's bright almond eyes took on an unreadable emotion, but she had already guessed what Alfonso was going to say. She glanced at the documents in front of her. "Are you trying to tell me that Ethan's death is related to them?"
Alfonso didn't answer directly but said, "At the time, we all concluded that Ethan committed suicide. We even suspected that Clara was involved because she was the one in contact with Ethan the most. We found out she had been coercing Ethan to do things for her."
Alfonso added, "Even the time when Ethan kidnapped you, it was Clara who orchestrated it. He even went to jail for her. But now, with time passing and no evidence pointing to Clara, and with Ethan dead, there's no proof left."
Victoria didn't interrupt, waiting for him to continue.
"Moreover, all these things were done voluntarily by Ethan, so we couldn't do anything to her. We also found out that the recent scandal about Horizon Group's perfume products being substandard was also orchestrated by Ethan. We even found evidence of his communication with Clara," Alfonso said as he handed another document to her.
Victoria took it and glanced at it casually. She hadn't delved deeply into these matters before, thinking it unnecessary.
With today's advanced technology, she could easily recover the deleted information between them.
Alfonso observed her expression, which remained as calm as ever, with no visible emotional fluctuations. 'Is she indifferent, or did she already know?'
She calmly said, "I know about this."
Alfonso frowned and instinctively asked, "Then what about his wrists and ankles?"
They found out that the negative news about Horizon Group was resolved on the same day it broke out. That afternoon, Ethan disappeared for several days until his body was found.
At that time, his wrists and ankles were injured, not like injuries from falling off a bridge.
The coroner said it was possible that someone had forcibly broken his wrists and ankles before his death, and they were reattached but hadn't healed yet.
To this day, they still couldn't find out who had broken his wrists and ankles.
Victoria slowly looked up, her deep eyes revealing a sense of openness. Her red lips moved slightly as she asked, "Mr. Romero, are you trying to ask if I had someone beat up Ethan?"
Alfonso pressed his lips together. Clearly, he did want to ask.
Victoria smiled faintly, "I can assure you that I didn't have anyone cause trouble for Ethan."
That was because she did it herself. But she didn't think it was necessary to say that.
Alfonso paused. He sighed lightly. Even if Victoria had someone do it, it wouldn't matter much. It would just be a personal vendetta, though the method was a bit cruel.
"Mr. Romero, you mentioned these two people earlier. What is their connection to my mother?" Victoria asked proactively.
Alfonso replied, "Ethan disappeared for a while, but we later found out that these two men took him away. They were also the ones who took him to the bridge. We now speculate that they might have forced him to jump. These two were also nearby the night Ethan had his accident."
After getting the information, they immediately brought the men in for questioning, but there was no evidence to prove they were the culprits. Both men claimed they saw someone beating Ethan, and since he was injured, they rescued and sheltered him, not intentionally taking him away.
But Alfonso still couldn't find the person who had beaten Ethan, so there were no witnesses, making these two the prime suspects.
Later, it was discovered that both men were connected to a woman named Esme, who was Victoria's biological mother.
But now Victoria said she didn't know these two men.
She didn't seem to be lying. Alfonso had learned about Victoria's identity from Todd, so he still trusted her. However, he felt that this matter wasn't over yet.
He found that anything related to Victoria became very complicated.
The living room was quiet for a moment.
Victoria weighed the implications of Alfonso's words.
She frowned slightly, "Mr. Romero, you don't think they targeted Ethan because of my mother's company, as an act of revenge, do you?"
Before Alfonso could respond, she continued, "Firstly, I don't know them. Secondly, even if they were my mother's people, that was a long time ago. My mother has been dead for many years. They have no reason to continue working for her, right?"
Victoria continued, "Moreover, they haven't gained any benefits from me. Why would they help me for no reason? Killing is illegal. I believe my mother's subordinates understand this basic principle."
Alfonso knew all this, but there were still doubts.
"Take a look at this," Alfonso said, handing her the last document.
