Chapter 270 Marlowe's Current Situation

Victoria and Alexander didn't get back to Nathan's place until 11 PM.

In the living room, Preston, Saskia, Cynthia, and Landon were hanging out. Nathan was probably already in bed; he couldn't stay up that late.

They all looked up when Victoria and Alexander walked in, giving knowing smiles, except for Landon, who was the only single one.

It was pretty obvious what had just gone down.

Victoria's eyes were still a bit red and puffy, like she'd been crying, and her lips were swollen from kissing.

They'd been gone for over two hours; it wasn't just a make-out session.

Victoria felt a bit awkward. She cleared her throat, said hi to everyone, and sat on the couch, looking down.

She couldn't pull off the cool and collected vibe like Alexander, who acted like nothing happened.

Landon stared at them for a bit but didn't notice anything off. But when Alexander sat next to him, he saw a big red mark on Alexander's neck.

He asked straight up, "Alexander, why's your neck so red? Are there mosquitoes this time of year?"

He was genuinely curious and didn't think anything of it. The next second, he caught the "Are you serious?" look in Alexander's eyes.

Victoria sat beside him, looking even more embarrassed.

Saskia rolled her eyes at Landon and said, "Landon, are you playing dumb?"

Landon shot back, "Why are you calling me stupid? What did I do?"

Saskia's disdain for Landon was always pretty clear. "Then why ask such a dumb question? Don't tell anyone you're my son!"

Preston added, "Yeah, don't say you're mine, either."

Landon was stunned by their reactions. 'What did I do wrong? What dumb question did I ask?'

Suddenly, it clicked for him.

Alexander looked at him coldly, "You said you have a girl you like. I really wonder how you managed to pursue her."

Confused, Landon said, "Wait, when did I ever..."

Saskia immediately perked up and bubbled, "Landon, you have a girl you like? Who is she? How old is she? What's she like? Where does she work?"

Landon was totally thrown by the questions. He didn't remember ever saying he liked a girl.

Alexander had asked him the same thing last time, and he was just as confused.

Saskia moved over to the empty seat next to him, grabbed his arm, and kept asking, "Tell me quickly."

Landon denied it vehemently, "I don't have a girl I like."

Saskia's face changed, and she said sternly, "Are you trying to avoid responsibility for that girl?"

Saskia called out furiously, "In our family, from your grandfather to your father to your brother, they've all been deeply in love with one person their whole lives and never had messy private lives. If you dare mess around, I won't let you off!"

Saskia squinted her eyes and warned him, "If you don't plan to spend your life with that girl, don't mess with her! Got it?"

Landon swallowed hard. He wanted to say this was all a misunderstanding. But he didn't dare, so he nodded timidly.

At midnight, Alexander took Victoria's hand and led her to the open-air balcony on the second floor.

"What are we doing here?" she asked softly, curious.

Suddenly, there were a few muffled sounds, and fireworks with red sparks shot into the sky, lighting up the dark night with a few crisp pops.

The fireworks exploded in the sky, breathtakingly beautiful.

For a moment, the night sky was adorned with sparkling gems before they fell like a starry waterfall, incredibly stunning.

Alexander stood by her side as she looked up at the starry sky, admiring the brilliant fireworks, a smile on her lips.

He lowered his head slightly, gazing at her. In her clear eyes, he saw the fireworks blooming and falling, but none of it compared to her beauty.

Alexander hugged her from behind, his hands wrapping around hers, and kissed her ear before gently resting his chin on her shoulder.

His gentle, deep voice, accompanied by the sound of fireworks, whispered in her ear, "Happy New Year. I'll be with you every year from now on."

Victoria felt a warm, tingling sensation in her heart. In the past, she had always been alone at this moment. She didn't feel lonely. It was just a different way of living.

But suddenly having someone by her side wasn't as hard to accept as she had imagined. She could feel his deep, intense, and delicate love for her.

She turned her head slightly to look at Alexander's face resting on her shoulder and planted a kiss on his cheek. "Happy New Year. I'll be with you every year too."

Marlowe had been feeling particularly relaxed and at ease these past few days. She had gone for a prenatal checkup a few days ago, and the baby was healthy, which was a relief.

The doctor advised her to stay happy and cheerful every day. So she temporarily resigned from her job.

Marlowe received a call from Philip. "Philip, hello."

Philip said, "Ms. Rivera, Mr. Scott still refuses to sign the divorce papers."

Marlowe asked, "What if I file for divorce?"

She was determined to get a divorce. And she couldn't keep staying here; she had to get divorced before anyone got a visual notice of her pregnancy.

Philip was silent for a few seconds before speaking, "Ms. Rivera, as far as I know, you and Mr. Scott haven't been separated due to emotional issues, nor have you committed bigamy or cohabited with others. Has he ever been violent or abusive?"

Marlowe was taken aback, "No."

Philip asked, "Any gambling or drug addiction?"

Marlowe dropped her eyes, "None."

Philip then asked, "Any other situations that have led to a breakdown in your relationship?"

"No." Marlowe's face fell. She and Grant had no feelings for each other, so there was no relationship to break down.

Helpless, Philip said bluntly, "In that case, you can't file for divorce. Even if you do, it won't work. Mr. Scott hasn't done anything wrong, and he doesn't agree to the divorce, so there's no chance of winning."

Although Philip was a very capable lawyer, this case had no chance of success.

After a long silence, Marlowe said dejectedly, "He doesn't love me. Does that count?"

Philip's mouth twitched.
