Chapter 77 Dispute
Victoria stayed cool the whole time.
She wore a casual professional outfit, a brown trench coat draped over her tall, slender frame, standing there like the conversation had nothing to do with her.
But you couldn't ignore her noble and cold vibe. Everyone had to admit Victoria had a strong presence; even silent, she was impossible to overlook.
Seeing everyone on her side, Julia smirked, "I didn't say those things."
If Lila were to back down now, she wouldn't be Lila.
Lila said casually, "Everyone knows if Clara can swim or not."
"What are you implying? That Clara's faking it?" Julia shot back.
Lila shrugged and laughed, "You said it, not me."
Julia went quiet.
Everyone looked at Clara, confused. Clara had her head slightly lowered, jealousy and hatred flashing in her eyes.
She thought, 'Julia, you idiot, now I have to explain.'
Looking down, she seemed weak, and everyone thought she was scared of Victoria. Rumor had it Victoria bullied Clara.
Then, she raised her head, looking delicate and weak, speaking softly, "I really can't swim. I almost drowned as a kid, and it scarred me for life."
"I can vouch for that. I've known Clara since we were kids. She never took swimming classes at school," Brent stepped in to back Clara up.
Everyone believed Brent more.
Lila glanced at Brent like he was an idiot. "You're that Brent, a total mama's boy, huh?"
Brent's face stiffened.
"Your mom's so wise, how did she end up with such a brainless son?" Lila frowned, shaking her head.
No one expected Lila to call Brent brainless.
"Are you crazy? How dare you insult Brent?" someone pointed at Lila and scolded.
Victoria, who had been silent, finally spoke, "If you don't want your hand, I don't mind breaking it!" Her cold eyes glanced at the girl who had just pointed at Lila. The girl instantly lowered her hand, feeling a chill. Victoria's gaze was so intimidating, it felt like being plunged into a freezing lake.
Everyone was intimidated by Victoria.
Lila looked at Victoria gratefully, then continued, "I'm not just insulting him but everyone here. A brain is a good thing; it's not too late to start using it!"
Lila had never been afraid of anyone except her mom!
Clara turned to Victoria and said softly, "Victoria, today's mess is my fault. Brent invited us, and we shouldn't be rude to him."
Lila rolled her eyes, feeling disgusted.
Just as she was about to speak, Victoria grabbed her wrist. Lila looked at Victoria and swallowed her words.
Victoria sneered, looking at Clara with icy, amused eyes, "Indeed, it's your fault. From start to finish, it's all been your doing. At least you know that!" Clara's face stiffened, turning even paler.
Her cold and aloof demeanor was even more captivating, her lips curling slightly. "As for this gathering, I couldn't care less. If it weren't for your constant nagging, I wouldn't be here!"
Victoria's words left everyone stunned.
Someone muttered, "I thought Victoria wanted to come herself?" All eyes turned to Clara, who looked even paler.
Julia quickly retorted, "She forced Clara to make her come. How could Clara beg her? Use your brains; it's impossible! Who would invite a plagiarist to such a high-end event?"
Everyone remembered the earlier incident and looked at Victoria with disdain.
Victoria narrowed her eyes, showing no emotion.
"I have video proof. Your family begged Victoria to come," Lila shot back sarcastically.
Clara's heart raced, lips pressed tightly together, unable to respond. She just hoped Julia wouldn't say anything stupid again!
Lila glanced at Clara and then said slowly, "As for the plagiarism issue, the truth will come out eventually."
"What truth? The original manuscript is with Clara. If Victoria didn't plagiarize, what is it?" Julia seized the opportunity to retort.
And Clara couldn't stop her.
Lila smirked, "So what if you have the original manuscript? Who knows if it's the real original or a draft?" She raised an eyebrow at Clara and smiled. "I heard Clara prepared a new piano piece today. I'm looking forward to it."
Julia wanted to say something, but suddenly her wrist hurt. Clara, standing next to her, was gripping it tightly. She winced in pain, "Clara, it hurts."
Clara snapped back to reality and apologized, "Sorry, Julia, I didn't mean to."
Seeing her weak demeanor, Julia didn't think much of it and assumed she was upset because of Victoria.
She didn't respond to Lila but instead turned to Brent. "Brent, don't blame Victoria and her friend. They didn't mean it. I really didn't expect this to happen. I'm truly sorry. Victoria has been rebellious since she was a child, and her personality is a bit stubborn. So, could you please not hold it against her?"
Brent, seeing her so magnanimous, felt she was incomparable to anyone present.
After all, Clara was the main character of today's gathering, and since she had no objections, he had no reason to object either. "By your words."
The other girls were quite envious of Clara for receiving such favor from Brent. Brent was quite handsome and had the support of the Green family.
They thought Clara and Brent made a good match, sharing common interests.
Someone looked at them enviously and said, "Clara and Brent make a good couple."
Someone else agreed, "I think so too. You two even share common interests."
Julia and Clara's faces stiffened, not daring to respond.
Seeing Clara's expression, Brent quickly explained, "Don't misunderstand. Clara and I are just friends."
Lila couldn't bear to see this. Clara was truly disgusting, having Lucas and still messing around with Brent.
At this moment, the Green family's butler approached Brent and whispered something in his ear.
