Chapter 309 Isn't My Hair Greasy?

"The one who was cremated back then..." Simon started to say.

"You better think twice before you say that!" Victoria cut him off, her voice sharp and defensive.

Victoria's clear, starry eyes suddenly flashed with a chilling light. Simon felt a wave of coldness wash over him, and for a moment, he was stunned. Ever since Victoria had a falling out with the family, her aura had grown stronger, even making Oliver afraid at times.

Suddenly, Victoria gave a wicked smile, one that hid a cunning intent.

"Oh, well." She spoke slowly and deliberately, "I forgot to tell you, I had someone write a timed program. At five o'clock sharp..." She tilted her head, gesturing with her chin at the documents in his hand. "If I don't hear the answer I want from you by then, all these documents, along with other incriminating evidence, will be posted online."

"You bastard! How dare you threaten me? I'm your father!" Simon shouted, his face contorted with rage.

Victoria ignored his outburst completely and appeared even more at ease. She took out her phone, lit up the screen, glanced at it briefly, and then kindly reminded him, "Mr. Kennedy, you have forty minutes left. Take your time to think it over. I'm waiting for your answer."

She ignored Simon's furious expression and added fuel to the fire. "Don't worry about me. Just do your own thing and pretend I'm not here for now."

After that, she said no more. She had all the patience in the world to wait. She knew Simon would eventually tell the truth because he knew what was at stake.

If Lorenzo found out that the son he had raised for so long was actually the child of Kaitlyn and Simon, it would be a huge scandal. With Lorenzo's personality, he wouldn't spare the Kennedy family or Kaitlyn.

Once exposed, this matter would trigger a chain reaction, and the most immediate consequence would be a major crisis for the Kennedy Group. Simon valued the Kennedy Group too much to risk with it.

The Smith family was the Kennedy Group's biggest partner, supplying half of its funds. Although Elodie wasn't Ashley Smith's biological daughter, she was still Davide Smith's child, so she would naturally receive some support.

Lorenzo's partnership with the Kennedy Group was already the biggest support he could give; it was essentially a win-win.

Clara's confidence largely came from believing that she had the Smith family behind her. However, Ashley had explicitly stated that no one in the Smith family was allowed to use the family’s influence for personal gain, treating everyone equally.

Therefore, many members of the Smith family made their living on their own without using the family’s resources.

Elodie's biggest win was snagging Simon, letting her live the high life without lifting a finger.

Victoria could wait it out, but for Simon, every second felt like torture, like he was being roasted alive. After weighing his options, he decided to give in and protect the Kennedy Group.

In less than five minutes, Victoria heard Simon's heavy voice. "Fine, I'll tell you."

Victoria stayed quiet, listening closely.

Ten minutes later, she walked out of the Kennedy Group building.

As she stepped outside, the sky was overcast. A cold wind blew, carrying a light drizzle that stung her cheeks. The slight sting made it all feel real, reminding her that everything she had just heard was true.

Simon had told her, "Yes, the person who was cremated back then wasn't your mom. After that day, your mom suddenly disappeared without a trace. No matter how hard we tried, we couldn't find her. The hospital's surveillance didn't capture her leaving the hospital either. So we went along with it and staged a natural death for your mom."

When she heard the truth, Victoria was surprisingly calm, unsure of how to feel. Should she be relieved that Esme didn't die of illness, or devastated that Simon had lied to her.

Every year on Esme's death anniversary, she would spend the night at Esme's grave, sharing many heartfelt words. The irony was that she had been talking to the wrong person. Her heart was in turmoil, engulfed in darkness, with no direction.

In her daze, unsure of her next step, she saw Alexander walking towards her from a distance. At that moment, it was as if a light had been switched on in her heart.

As Alexander approached her, she immediately reached out to hug his waist, pressing herself against him, her cheek buried in his chest. Alexander wrapped one arm around her waist and placed the other on the back of her head, gently rubbing it.

"What are you doing here?" she asked, her voice muffled against his chest.

Alexander sensed her low spirits, lowered his head slightly, and gently kissed the top of her head, wanting to comfort her. The next second, Victoria struggled a bit, lifting her head from his chest to look at him.

"Alexander, why do you keep kissing the top of my head?" She blinked, seriously and earnestly reminding him, "I haven't washed my hair in two days. Isn't it greasy?"

Her last question was asked with genuine sincerity.

Because of her words, Alexander subtly glanced at her hair.
