Chapter 225 The Real Culprit of the Car Accident
After Victoria hopped in the car, she whipped out her phone, logged into some system, and shot off a quick message on a chat page: [Herman Simmons, 46, forensic officer at Rihegde PD, over twenty years on the job. Dig into his recent moves.]
A reply came back fast: [Got it.]
Then another message popped up: [The guy you wanted us to check out, Matteo Patel, has only been hanging with Clarence Ramirez lately. His debts got cleared by Francis Richardson, who’s just a straight-up country dude with no ties to Matteo. By the way, Francis is Clarence's cousin, and their families barely talk, except for a recent meet-up. Clarence's boss is Raymond King. The trail goes cold there; this guy's super careful and leaves no tracks.]
Victoria mulled over the connections and zeroed in on the name Raymond.
She'd heard it before but couldn't place it right then.
She put her phone down and drove over to Vertex Holdings Group.
Since the drama at Vertex Holdings Group two days ago, security at the entrance had seriously beefed up.
When Victoria rolled up to Vertex Holdings Group, Dylan was in the middle of reporting to Alexander.
"Mr. Howard, Raymond is officially Ivan's guy, but really, he works for Christopher," Dylan said, shaking like a leaf.
Right then, Alexander's vibe was intense, like a lion ready to pounce, 'cause Christopher had the nerve to mess with Victoria.
Even though they thought they'd wiped all the evidence, any move leaves some kind of trace. Dylan hadn't seen Alexander like this in ages. Usually, he was just icy and distant.
Dylan figured if Christopher was standing in front of Alexander right now, he'd be toast.
Alexander's eyes were full of rage, and his cold voice hit Dylan's ears. "Leak the info about the Shadow Syndicate."
Dylan nodded, "Got it."
Alexander's move was brutal; it would hurt Christopher way more than just offing him.
The Shadow Syndicate had been around for four years, and hardly anyone knew Christopher was the puppet master behind it.
On the surface, it was just a bar, but really, it was into all sorts of shady deals and even murder, though they kept that stuff under wraps.
Even though the info they had couldn't totally take down the Shadow Syndicate, it would mess Christopher up big time.
Christopher was slick, who always tied up all the loose ends, making it tough to dig up dirt on him.
Once this info got out, the Shadow Syndicate's foundation would be rocked, and it might even get shut down.
This would make Christopher lose his main cash cow, as sixty percent of his funds came from the Shadow Syndicate.
That was enough to make him pay.
Originally, they wanted to flush out Christopher's backers and take them all down at once, but with Alexander's fury, there was no other option.
When Andrew got the email from Dylan, he was puzzled and made a call. "Dylan, this info can't totally bring down Christopher. Why's Alexander exposing it now?"
Dylan gathered his thoughts and simply said, "He messed with the wrong person, and there's nothing I can do."
Andrew thought for a sec and then asked, a bit skeptical, "You don't mean it's for Victoria, do you?"
Dylan grinned. "Bingo."
Victoria rolled up to Vertex Holdings Group a little after four.
Everyone there already knew her. The receptionist greeted her warmly, "Mrs. Howard."
She wasn't quite used to it yet, but she had to roll with it.
She smiled. "Get on with your work. Don't mind me."
She strolled over to Alexander's private elevator, scanned her fingerprint, and went up.
The staff in the CEO's office said Alexander was in a meeting, so she went straight to his office to wait.
Victoria suddenly felt like she was running the company, too, but she wasn't as swamped as Alexander, who had endless meetings and no free time, even on weekends.
Meanwhile, Wesley was burning the midnight oil at Horizon Group, buried in reports.
But Victoria hated overtime; she was efficient anyway.
Feeling a bit bored, she wandered around Alexander's office.
She spotted a file on the desk and, out of curiosity, picked it up to read.
She frowned; it turned out he was investigating, too.
Raymond was Christopher's guy, no wonder the name rang a bell. She'd heard it once at Howard Villa.
O Alliance couldn't dig it up, but Alexander did.
After Alexander wrapped up his meeting, they headed home together.
In the car, Alexander was about to fill her in on the findings.
Victoria, guessing what he was about to say, cut him off, "I saw the info on your desk, so save your voice."
He'd just come out of a meeting, and his voice was a bit hoarse from all the talking.
Alexander's lips curved into a smile, teasing with a husky tone, "Are you worried about me?"
Victoria tilted her head, glanced at him, and smiled. "Yeah, so take care of yourself. Don't make me worry. If you get sick, I'm not playing nurse."
Alexander chuckled, holding her hand, fingers interlocked.
Victoria looked down at their intertwined hands, feeling super happy and excited.
She really liked holding hands with him, their fingers entwined.
Suddenly, a scene flashed in her mind: when they made love, he would also interlock his fingers with hers, like it brought their hearts closer.
Their intertwined fingers, palms pressed together, conveyed not just warmth but also their feelings.
She was still lost in that shy moment when Alexander's voice broke through. "Alright, I won't make you worry. I can't bear to. So for you, I'll take good care of myself. Otherwise, I won't be able to take care of you, and I wouldn't trust anyone else to do it."
Such a simple sentence made her heart race.
For some reason, her nose felt a bit tingly. He always put her first.
As the car cruised down the road, the lights outside flickered in the car, casting shadows on Alexander's handsome face. She looked up slightly and saw the sincerity and tenderness in his eyes, along with the undisguised love.
An unexpected guest showed up at Serenity Grove Manor.
When Landon got back, he saw a short-haired, neat stranger sitting upright in the living room.
He immediately pulled Sawyer over. "Sawyer, why'd you let a stranger in? Aren't you scared Alexander will sack you?"
