Chapter 345 I Promise, I Won't Run Around

"I don't want to go out!" Victoria pouted and mumbled.

Upon hearing this, Alexander slightly raised his head and looked at her again. In his deep, magnetic voice, he asked, "So what do you want to discuss?"

She said, "Can I get Kimberly and Matthew to help me out for a bit?"

Kimberly and Matthew usually stayed at Serenity Grove Manor. Occasionally, Kimberly would go out with Victoria, but since Victoria was hospitalized, Kimberly had been staying at Serenity Grove Manor.

Alexander raised an eyebrow and teased, "Of course. I'm already yours; whatever you say."

Victoria smiled, realizing he was right.

Soon, Kimberly and Matthew appeared in the ward. They greeted together, "Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Howard."

Alexander, sitting on the sofa handling documents, responded faintly.

Victoria waved them over. "Come here."

The two approached the bed, looking at Victoria with puzzled expressions.

Kimberly felt quite guilty seeing Victoria. She felt that every time she went out with Victoria, something bad would happen, making her hesitant to stay by Victoria's side.

So, she had directly told Alexander to assign someone else to accompany Victoria.

But this time, Victoria had called both her and Matthew over, looking all mysterious.

"I have something to tell you," Victoria said.

Alexander glanced at them briefly. Victoria was whispering, and the two standing by the bed were listening intently. But he didn't pay much attention to what Victoria was saying and quickly returned to his work.

After a while, the two left. Shortly after, Alexander suddenly received a phone call, and his expression darkened.

"What's wrong?" Victoria noticed his brows furrow slightly.

Alexander habitually rubbed her head. "Something came up. I need to step out for a bit. Be good and wait for me here in the hospital."

She nodded. "Okay." Then, worried he wouldn't believe her, she raised three fingers and swore, "I promise, I won't run around."

Seeing her serious and obedient look, Alexander bent down and kissed her on the lips. "Good girl."

Outside the hospital entrance, Alexander got into his private car and left the hospital.

As the black Maybach disappeared from sight, a man in a gray trench coat and a baseball cap stepped out of a white, inconspicuous sedan in the nearby parking lot.

The man adjusted his cap and walked towards the hospital building.

Victoria was about to reach for the cup beside her when she heard the door open.

There were people arranged by Alexander outside the door, so they shouldn't have let anyone in without saying anything. Besides, the footsteps didn't sound like a woman's, but the presence felt familiar.

Just as Victoria furrowed her brows slightly, a tall figure appeared before her, along with a familiar face.

"What are you doing here?" She relaxed her brows, looking slightly surprised at Ellington. She thought, 'Isn't Ellington supposed to stay out of Rihegde?'

Ellington glanced at Victoria after entering. Seeing her in good spirits, the worry in his eyes finally faded.

Despite daily reports on Victoria's condition, nothing reassured him like seeing her in person.

Ellington took a long stride to her bedside, hooked a chair with his right leg, and sat down gracefully.

"Here to report some intel and to see your sorry state," Ellington said with a mischievous smile, looking up at her.

Victoria didn't respond immediately. Then she said irritably, "So, should I thank you for going out of your way to come here personally?"

Ellington played along. "Just saying thank you feels too insincere. Something more tangible would be appreciated."

Victoria rolled her eyes at him. "Didn't you say you'd never set foot in Rihegde?" she questioned, squinting at him. She thought, 'He is indeed quite good-looking, but Alexander is still more handsome!'

Ellington, looking lazy and relaxed, said, "Times have changed. You're in Rihegde, so I had to come."

"What did you do with the people at the door?" Victoria remembered the bodyguards outside and, with her almond-shaped eyes squinting, asked him.

"I sent them away, but they'll probably be back soon. So, you'll have to sneak me out later," Ellington said matter-of-factly.

Victoria was speechless.

"Whatever you need to say, just spit it out." Victoria didn't want him to run into Alexander.

"Don't worry; your husband won't be back so soon." Ellington seemed to guess her thoughts.

Seeing Victoria's face darken, Ellington quickly added, "I just had someone tamper with one of Alexander's new projects. Alexander's so capable, it's no big deal for him—just a minor financial hit at most."

If Victoria could move more freely, she would have kicked Ellington. "I'll give you ten minutes. Say what you need to and then get out!"

Anyone else who had spoken to Ellington in such a domineering tone would be dead by now, except for Victoria, who always had the upper hand.

"Last time, you asked me to find those guys on the eight islands. I've got some leads," Ellington said.

Victoria didn't respond, waiting for him to continue.
