Chapter 379 Look Down on Him
The one who answered the phone was Kaitlyn, the wife of the current head of the Smith Family, who was also Julia's aunt.
"Kaitlyn, is Lorenzo home? I have an urgent matter to discuss with him." Elodie, at this moment, restrained her usual sharpness and appeared somewhat humble.
Kaitlyn always looked down on Elodie, but due to Lorenzo's father's wish for the Smith Family to remain harmonious, she tolerated her, especially since they didn't meet often.
"Oh, Elodie, he just went out; he's not home right now." She pretended to be gentle and gracious: "Is there something you need from him?"
"When will he be back?" Elodie asked.
Kaitlyn could hear her urgency, but she remained calm. "I don't know. You know how he is; he never likes us to ask about his schedule."
Elodie didn't know what to say for a moment.
Kaitlyn pretended to be kind and asked, "Elodie, is there something you need? Tell me, and I'll help if I can, or I'll let him know when he gets back."
Elodie didn't have Lorenzo's private number, and she knew Kaitlyn wouldn't give it to her.
But now she could only hope that the Smith Family could help her daughter.
"Kaitlyn, Clara is in some trouble at the police station, and I need Lorenzo's help." Elodie said.
Kaitlyn pretended to be shocked and let out a gasp.
Then she comforted Elodie, "Is it that serious? Don't worry, I'll call him in a bit and let him know."
Little did Elodie know, Kaitlyn's lips curled into a smile, almost laughing out loud.
But she held it in.
Elodie said, "Thank you, Kaitlyn."
But if one listened closely, it was clear she said it through gritted teeth.
Kaitlyn didn't even let her finish before hurriedly hanging up the phone.
Anyone who didn't know better would think she was really concerned about the matter.
Just as she hung up, Lorenzo came down from the second floor.
"Who was on the phone?" he asked.
Kaitlyn replied, "It was Elodie."
Lorenzo frowned. "She wants money again?"
Kaitlyn was still thinking of an excuse, but her husband had already given her one.
"Yes," she replied, then pretended to be worried, "Elodie seems to be in some urgent trouble; she sounded very anxious. Maybe you should help her?"
Lorenzo snorted coldly. "Help her? Haven't we helped her enough? The Smith Group collaborated with the Kennedy Group because of her, and now the Kennedy Group is just an empty shell. The Smith Group has lost a lot of money because of this recently, I haven't even settled the score with the Kennedy family, and she still has the nerve to ask us for help!"
Kaitlyn asked, "But what if it's really something urgent?"
"No what ifs!" Lorenzo suddenly warned her, "I'm telling you, don't help her behind my back. If I find out, you'll be punished too!"
Kaitlyn said in fear, "Yes, I understand."
But inside, she was delighted; she couldn't wait for Lorenzo to ignore Elodie's troubles.
It was just tonight that she unexpectedly learned about the Kennedy Group's situation.
A few days ago when she met with Simon, he didn't tell her that the Kennedy Group was already an empty shell.
If the Kennedy Group really went under, she wouldn't need to be polite to them anymore.
As soon as Lorenzo left the living room, her gentle face instantly turned cold.
Elodie thought it over and decided to make a call.
The Tudor family.
Lucas had just returned home from the company.
His phone, placed aside, started ringing.
There was no caller ID, and he didn't really want to answer it, so he reached out and declined the call.
He leaned back tiredly on the sofa.
Recently, to expand the Tudor Group, he had been working non-stop, working overtime, traveling, his mind solely focused on work.
It seemed like only work could numb him.
After a while, the phone rang again, it was the same number.
After a few seconds, he answered it. "Hello, who is this?"
"Lucas, it's me, Elodie." Elodie's anxious voice, tinged with a hint of sobbing, reached his ears.
He had just closed his eyes, but they snapped open instantly.
He frowned, and his expression turned cold.
In a cold voice, he said, "Elodie, I told you before, whatever Clara does has nothing to do with me anymore. Don't contact me again."
In the past, whenever Clara felt unwell or was bullied by Victoria, Elodie would call him to complain.
He didn't mind it before, after all, he and Clara did have genuine feelings for each other back then.
But ever since he found out Clara had deceived him, he was utterly disappointed in her.
Anything related to her, he automatically blocked out, and he even felt a bit of disgust when he heard her name.
Elodie didn't expect him to react this way now, but she couldn't care about that anymore.
Before he could hang up, she hurriedly said, "Lucas, Clara is being held at the police station. Can you help her?"
Lucas's frown deepened upon hearing this.
Why was Clara at the police station again?
Seeing that he hadn't hung up, Elodie quickly seized the opportunity to continue, "It's that heartless Victoria, she got Clara sent to the police station and won't let us bail her out. I had no choice but to come to you."
"You know, Clara is delicate and fearful of unfamiliar environments, she can't stay in a place like that. I'm worried something might happen to her in there," she added.
Lucas was silent for a moment before saying, "Elodie, there's no point in coming to me; I'm powerless to help."
Before Elodie could respond, he added, "Besides, the police wouldn't just arrest or detain someone without reason."
His meaning was clear: Clara had indeed done something wrong and deserved to be detained.
"Clara did nothing wrong, but it was Victoria who set a trap for her. Clara is kind-hearted; that's why she fell for it. And Clara only has you, only you can save her." Elodie was clearly twisting the truth.
Lucas raised his hand to pinch his brow, his voice devoid of any emotion, "But I heard you have already arranged a marriage alliance with the Astor family. Since Clara is now part of the Astor family, you should seek help from them, not me. I have things to do, goodbye."
Before Elodie could finish, the call was disconnected.
After hanging up on Elodie, Lucas called his assistant to find out why Clara was at the police station.
Thanks to the powerful internet and the fact that no one had tried to suppress the news, the assistant had an answer within five minutes.
"Mr. Tudor, there's no need for much investigation. Just check the trending news about the international perfume competition this afternoon." The assistant spoke tactfully.
After all, the two people involved were Lucas's ex-fiancée and the woman who almost became his wife.
Clara had not only fallen from grace but was also exposed as a fake talent.
It turned out all her achievements were stolen from others' hard work.
Now, it was just time for her to face the consequences, and her lies and pretense were being exposed.
Seeing this, one might wonder if Lucas regretted breaking off the engagement.
However, a strong woman like Victoria wasn't someone just anyone could handle.
It took Lucas three to four minutes to understand the whole situation.
It seemed he was right not to agree to Elodie's request.
He never imagined that the Clara he once truly liked was such a deeply scheming and dark-hearted person.
It appeared she had deceived him more than once or twice.
He realized he had been blind back then!
This made him feel even more guilty towards Victoria.
Remembering how he had once urged her to be kinder to Clara, his cheeks burned with a mix of shame and self-directed anger.
The next day.
Before Victoria left the house, she received a text message from an unknown number, but it was signed at the end.
Alexander, standing next to her, glanced down and saw it.
He narrowed his eyes slightly. "What does Lucas want with you?"
Victoria tilted her head and looked up at him. "Are you seriously jealous?" She leaned closer to him and continued, "Don't worry, I don't fancy him."
Meanwhile, Lucas, who was not fancied by Victoria, was anxiously waiting for her reply, but the message seemed to have disappeared into the void.
Later, when he tried calling, the first few calls went through, but then the phone was turned off.
