Chapter 282 Following Victoria
At the suburban villa, Eric took a swig of water and said, "Nicholas, she was in the hospital for two days and got out today."
Nicholas shot him an annoyed look. "Can you finish talking before you drink?"
Eric gulped down the last bit of water. "Why the rush? I'm not going anywhere. I need to stay hydrated to keep talking."
Nicholas stayed silent.
Eric took a deep breath and continued, "I tried to get info from the nurse's station, but no luck."
Just as Nicholas was about to lose it, Eric quickly added, "But, I hacked into a staff member's computer and found this."
He handed his phone to Nicholas.
After reading it, Nicholas turned and headed upstairs.
Victoria took another two days to rest at home.
On the third day, just as she was preparing to return to Horizon Group, she received a message from an unknown number. The message addressed her by name and indicated there was something of great importance to discuss in person, providing an address and time but withholding any signature.
Victoria read it and then deleted it.
Meanwhile, Clara smirked after sending the message and got ready to go out.
Clara was sure Victoria would show up. After all, it was about her, and she'd be curious.
But Victoria had no plans to pay attention to it.
In the two weeks since Victoria handed the company to Wesley, he had settled into his role as CEO. But the moment he saw Victoria, he reverted to being her assistant.
Wesley rushed over as soon as his meeting ended. "Ms. Kennedy, why didn't you tell me you were coming?"
Victoria looked him over, nodded approvingly, and raised an eyebrow. "You're really looking like a CEO now, good job."
Wesley, whose handsome features and commanding presence were particularly striking when he was serious, felt a bit embarrassed by her praise and smiled sheepishly. "Please, don't jest with me."
Victoria didn't want to waste his time, knowing he was busier than she had been. "Alright, get back to work. Don't mind me. I'm just here waiting for Lila."
Wesley said, "Alright, call me if you need anything."
He was always respectful towards Victoria, but it was out of admiration and respect, not fear.
Victoria had brought him into this world, allowing him to shine. Without her, he wouldn't know where he'd be working now.
To him, she was not just a boss but also a friend and benefactor.
Lila showed up after finishing her tasks. "Hey, I'm here. Let's go."
They had plans to meet Marlowe today.
As soon as they drove out of the underground garage, several cars started tailing them.
It took less than ten minutes for Victoria to notice.
The tailing was way too obvious.
Lila noticed too and blinked in disbelief. "How many people did Grant send to follow us? Isn't this overkill?"
Victoria glanced at the rearview mirror and said calmly, "It's not just his people."
Lila, confused, asked, "What do you mean? Who else? Could it be Alexander's enemies?"
Victoria replied, "No, it's too complicated to explain right now."
Lila looked at her and said, "Then take your time to explain. I've got time to listen."
Grant's guys were indeed tailing them, but so were Leroy and Eric. They quickly realized something was up. Besides them, there were four other cars on Victoria's tail.
Leroy and Eric exchanged a look, sensing trouble.
Leroy watched for a bit and said, "Looks like these folks are just after Victoria."
Right then, Eric's phone buzzed with a message from an unknown number.
Eric checked it and his face changed.
Leroy noticed. "What's up?"
Eric handed him the phone.
The message read: [I know you're following me. I need to shake off the tail. Help me block them at the next intersection.]
Leroy stayed cool.
Eric, seeing his calmness, asked, "Why aren't you surprised?"
Leroy replied, "Surprised about what? She already knows."
"She knows, but how does she have my number? This is my private number," Eric said, both frustrated and curious.
Leroy gave him a look like he was an idiot.
Eric squinted. "What's with that look?"
"Have you been watching too much TV? Is your brain not working right?" Leroy said bluntly. "Did you forget what she does? Finding your number is no big deal."
Eric was speechless. He felt stupid for asking such a dumb question. For a moment, he was even annoyed with himself.
He almost forgot how many skills Victoria had.
Meanwhile, Lila looked at her phone and saw a reply.
"Darling, they replied, saying 'Okay'," Lila said, looking up at Victoria in the driver's seat.
Victoria had given Lila a number and told her to send a message to shake off Grant's people.
As they approached the next intersection, a gray sedan suddenly sped up and "accidentally" grazed a black sedan next to them.
The people in the black sedan were stunned. How did they get hit from such a distance?
In that moment of confusion, Victoria's black Mercedes suddenly made a right turn. The people in the black sedan realized something was wrong and tried to follow, but the gray sedan sped up again, blocking their path.
The black sedan had to brake suddenly, causing the cars behind to stop as well. Luckily, there weren't many cars making right turns, so there were no collisions.
Eric rolled down the window, and the people in the black sedan did the same, shouting, "What are you doing? Move your car! Are you looking for trouble? Do you have a death wish?"
Eric pretended to be apologetic. "Sorry, my friend had a shaky hand. He just got his license and panicked. We'll move the car right away."
After a moment, the gray sedan didn't move. Eric, sitting in the passenger seat, started cursing, "Can you do anything right? Did you buy your license? How can you be so stupid and useless? You can't even start the car."
The people in the black sedan watched helplessly as Victoria's black Mercedes disappeared from sight.
In the end, it was a passing traffic cop who resolved the situation.
Kevin got a call from his subordinate, took a deep breath, and sighed before heading into the office.
"Mr. Scott, we lost them," he said cautiously, watching Grant's expression darken.
Grant pressed his lips tightly and said nothing.
It seemed he had underestimated Victoria.
Kevin was really scared, praying that Grant wouldn't take his anger out on him.
Victoria was indeed bold. So far, Grant had only been thwarted by two people: Alexander and Victoria.
What a coincidence!
