Chapter 109 Victoria's Intuition
At 11:30 AM, Victoria got Alexander's call right on time.
"Did you catch a cold? Your voice sounds hoarse," she said after a bit of chatting.
Alexander had just woken up with a slight fever from his injury, which made his voice sound off.
He made up an excuse. "Nah, just talked too much in a meeting."
To keep her from worrying, he added, "Don't worry, I'm fine. It won't mess with your happiness."
Dylan, who came in to deliver water, heard this and smirked. Alexander was really trying hard to hide his injury from Victoria.
Despite the time difference between Country M and Rihegde, he got up at 3:30 AM to call her without resting.
Victoria's mind wandered to a different meaning behind his words. She must've been influenced by his recent comments and was overthinking.
Just then, Lila called her for lunch.
Alexander heard it too. "Go eat. I might be busy this afternoon, so I'll call you tonight."
"Okay, take care," she said, still feeling something was off.
"Got it," Alexander replied.
After hanging up, Lila saw her in a daze. "Honey, snap out of it. Were you on the phone with Alexander?"
Victoria nodded. "Yeah, he had to go on a business trip yesterday."
Lila teased, "You miss him already, huh?"
Victoria frowned. "Lila, I feel like he's acting strange."
Lila was puzzled. "What? You think he has a mistress? No way. He dotes on you and doesn't like other women around him."
Victoria sighed. Lila's imagination was wild.
"No, I just feel like he hung up too quickly," Victoria said.
Lila looked at her seriously. "Oh no, honey, you're really into Alexander. It's been less than a day, and you're already overthinking."
Victoria was silent.
"No, I'm not. His voice sounded strange, and his breathing was off, like he was hiding something," Victoria explained.
Lila said, "Alexander's got plenty of security. Even on a business trip, what could happen? Don't overthink it. You two haven't been apart since you met, and now you're anxious." She took Victoria's hand. "Come on, let's have lunch."
But Victoria still felt something was off with Alexander.
At the Golden Crown Hotel in Country M, Caleb, Garrett, and Owen had just entered and heard him on the phone.
"Was that Victoria?" Caleb asked, looking at Alexander, who was pale but trying to appear cheerful. "You're so injured, yet you still try to cheer Victoria up. Impressive."
Garrett glanced at him. "It's past 3 AM. Victoria must know about the time difference with Rihegde, right?"
Alexander replied, "I didn't tell her I was here."
The three had taken a private jet immediately after hearing about Alexander's injury.
Owen came in with a medical kit, took his temperature, and found he had a slight fever.
He put on sterile gloves and prepared to check the wound again.
When he uncovered it, he saw the last doctor had done a decent job, but it was still infected, causing the fever.
Alexander couldn't help but take a sharp breath.
Owen, while re-dressing the wound, said, "I heard you were a total badass when they took the bullet out without anesthesia. This can't be worse than that, right?"
Alexander stayed silent.
Caleb and Garrett sat on the sofa, legs crossed, enjoying Owen scolding Alexander.
