Chapter 302 Because I Don't Believe He's That Kind-hearted

Kevin noticed Grant's face looked even worse after he pitched his idea. But Kevin thought it was a solid plan. If they gave Marlowe what she wanted most, wouldn't that solve everything? So, he decided to give it another shot with Grant.

"Mr. Scott, seriously, you should give it a try," Kevin said.

Kevin wasn't sure where he found the guts. He just felt that since he couldn't get through to Alexander, this was the next best thing.

"Look, if you just sign the papers, Mrs. Scott won't have any more worries. Then you can use the excuse of handling the divorce paperwork to meet her at City Hall, and she'll show up, right?" Kevin suggested.

Kevin was really pushing his idea; he genuinely thought it was a good one.

Grant's icy voice cut through the air, sending a shiver down Kevin's spine. "What do you mean if I sign, she won't have any concerns?"

Kevin quickly thought on his feet. "Mr. Scott, what I mean is that Mrs. Scott doesn't really want to divorce you. She's just in a bad mood and needs to blow off some steam."

Kevin added, "And you're the outlet. Once she vents, you can bring her back, and everything will be fine."

He continued, "Besides, after all these years, you're the only one Mrs. Scott has. She's used to it. If she really divorced you, she'd be all alone."

Kevin didn't dare mention her parents. For the past five years, Marlowe had been staying in Meadowview Villa, without family or friends. Her world revolved around Grant.

Sometimes Kevin wondered how Marlowe managed to hold on. Five years with just one person in her life. Just thinking about it gave Kevin goosebumps. A life with no family or friends must be incredibly lonely and oppressive. Plus, she had to be cautious every day, always mindful of Grant's moods. The fact that Marlowe didn't become depressed was, in his opinion, a miracle.

Later, Kevin figured out why Marlowe could endure it. Because she loved Grant. Love could bring her joy and happiness, but it could also make her feel the burning pain of hell. Because of love, she let Grant break her wings and willingly stayed imprisoned for five years. Similarly, because she no longer loved him or was too tired, she could regrow her broken wings and bravely fly out of the prison.

Kevin actually admired Marlowe's ability to let go. But of course, he didn't dare say any of this to Grant. He just didn't get why Grant was so against the divorce. Didn't Grant not love Marlowe? Wouldn't a divorce be better? It would save Grant from the constant mood swings, and Kevin wouldn't have to guess his thoughts and walk on eggshells every day at work.

Just when Kevin thought Grant wouldn't agree, he heard Grant's cold and slightly tired voice from behind. "Tell her I can sign, but before I do, she must meet with me."

Kevin's mouth twitched involuntarily, thinking that meeting might be difficult. But he didn't dare say that, so he just replied, "Okay, Mr. Scott."

Meanwhile, at Meadowview Villa, Marlowe was experimenting with new recipes, unaware of the trap Grant had set for her. She had been bored lately and was trying out various dishes and snacks, but anyone who saw her creations would know they were all meant for children. She had been researching foods suitable for kids, from birth onwards, and had done her homework on what was appropriate at each stage. She even sought advice from the experienced housekeeper Victoria had found for her.

Marlowe had just made some cookies suitable for a two-year-old and was about to taste them when her phone rang. She answered it directly; it was Philip calling. Before she could speak, he had already started talking.

Marlowe was surprised. "He really agreed to sign?"

Philip confirmed on the other end of the line.

Marlowe felt a moment of heaviness in her heart, but it only lasted a few seconds. Once she made up her mind, she wouldn't waver. But would Grant really be so kind as to let her go? Something felt off.

Just as this doubt formed in her mind, Philip said, "But Mr. Scott has one condition."

Marlowe was silent. She knew it would be like this. She took a deep breath and asked, "What is his condition?"

As long as he was willing to sign the divorce papers and the condition was within her ability, she could agree.

Philip said directly, "Mr. Scott wants to meet with you before signing."

Marlowe didn't agree immediately. She carefully considered Grant's request. After a few seconds, she calmly said, "Philip, please tell him that I can meet with him, but he must sign the papers first."

Philip was slightly stunned. This felt like a game of back and forth.

Philip asked, "Ms. Rivera, may I ask why?"

Marlowe didn't explain much, simply saying, "Because I don't trust him to be so kind."

Philip replied, "Alright."

After hanging up the phone, Marlowe sighed deeply. She knew Grant's cunning and deceitful nature too well. If he really wanted to let her go, he wouldn't have dragged it out until now. Suddenly agreeing now definitely meant something was up. Regardless of whether it was true or not, she had to stay vigilant.

She was determined to get divorced. Five years was enough, and she knew she wasn't in the wrong. She had been hesitant before, but the arrival of this child made everything clear. She gently touched her already swollen belly, a radiant smile spreading across her face. Her smile was like a budding flower, full of hope. She softly spoke to the baby inside her, "Baby, be good. From now on, it will just be you and me."

Philip was incredibly efficient. Almost as soon as he hung up with Marlowe, he gave Grant the response.

When Kevin received the call, he thought Marlowe had agreed. However, her answer was beyond his expectation.

After hanging up with Philip, Kevin took a moment to gather his thoughts before slowly turning to look at Grant in the back seat. "Mr. Scott, Mrs. Scott's attorney called me back." He was afraid and didn't know whether to continue speaking.

Grant was leaning back with his eyes closed. When Kevin said the first sentence, he signaled Kevin to continue. But after a moment, there was no follow-up from Kevin.

Grant frowned and opened his eyes. It was like a long-dormant lion waking up to hunt. Kevin was frozen with fear.

Grant demanded, "Go on, what's the matter? Cat got your tongue?!"

Kevin gritted his teeth and said, "Philip said Mrs. Scott also has a condition."

Grant's eyes narrowed. "What condition?"

Kevin replied, "She said she would meet you, but you have to sign the papers first."

Grant pressed his lips together and said, "The reason!"

Kevin instinctively cleared his throat and prepared himself. "Mr. Scott, these are Mrs. Scott's exact words. 'Because I don't trust him to be so kind.' That's what Philip just told me."

The moment Kevin finished speaking, the car felt like it had plunged into an ice cellar. Even with the heater on, Kevin and the driver wished they could jump out. Grant's eyes were like a stormy sea, waves crashing violently against the rocks. His lips and eyes were frosty, and his chiseled features were sharp as a knife, making no one dare to approach. He wore a dark expression, gritting his teeth, with anger and frustration boiling inside him.

'How dare you negotiate with me? You better hide for the rest of your life!'

Victoria and Alexander had just returned home when they saw Landon, who had been missing for several days. But this time, Landon looked a bit miserable and seemed quite aggrieved. To be precise, he was injured.
