Chapter 351 A Friendly Reminder
Kimberly and Matthew handed Victoria the freshly developed photos without a word. She glanced at them, and in the next moment, the photos slipped from her hand onto the white bedding.
"Mrs. Howard, we staked out for half a day today. In the afternoon, we saw a vehicle leaving the villa, so we followed it. The car went to the Kennedy Mansion." Kimberly briefly explained, "These photos were taken at the entrance of the Kennedy Mansion."
But Victoria's gaze remained fixed on the face in the photo lying on the bedding.
Victoria's eyes flickered with shock, then relief, and finally calm, with a trace of something unidentifiable. She had imagined and doubted countless times, but now, faced with the so-called truth, she hesitated.
Alexander, standing by, glanced at Kimberly and Matthew. The two understood and turned to leave.
Victoria seemed calm, but her hands betrayed her.
Alexander's warm hand wrapped around Victoria's slightly trembling hand, and his other hand gently rested on her head, pressing her towards him, letting her lean on him.
Neither of them spoke for a while.
"Did you know all along?" After a long time, Victoria finally spoke.
Alexander answered straightforwardly, "Yes."
She asked calmly, "When?"
Alexander paused. "A few days before you."
Victoria suddenly recalled the second day after her injury. Since then, Alexander had been by her side almost every day, except for that one morning when he went out.
Alexander had expected Victoria to question why he hadn't told her at the time, but she never did, even after a long wait. Instead, Alexander spoke up because he was afraid she would be angry with him. "Sorry I didn't tell you right away. You had just come out of surgery, and I was worried you couldn't handle it."
Victoria took the initiative to hold Alexander's hand tightly. She looked up at him, interrupting Alexander, "You still don't really get me."
Alexander was slightly stunned for a moment, looking into her watery eyes.
Suddenly, he realized Victoria never blamed him for not telling her when he knew. "Yes, I overthought it. It's my fault for being narrow-minded. You're a smart and understanding woman."
Alexander's warm hand pressed against Victoria's cheek, his thumb gently stroking her delicate skin, his eyes fixed on her.
"Alexander, I'm feeling really mixed up right now," Victoria said, lowering her eyes. "I can't even begin to describe how I feel."
"Yes, I know. Just don't think about it," he comforted.
Victoria reached out and hugged Alexander's waist, burying her face in him.
When she was a child, Victoria fantasized that it would be great if her mother could come back to life. Then her mother would be there to accompany her, love her, and perhaps she would have a very happy family.
As she grew up, this fantasy gradually faded away.
Victoria knew that once a person died, they couldn't come back to life.
Until a series of strange events happened later, it seemed to give Victoria another chance to fantasize and doubt.
But when the truth was right in front of her, she couldn't feel happy at all.
The person Victoria had always loved, respected, and looked forward to seeing appeared alive again. She should have been happy, even rushing to Esme immediately, but she didn't.
She thought, 'If my mother is still alive, why doesn't she come to find me and take me away?'
Victoria was afraid of not getting the answer she hoped for, so the moment she saw the photo, she backed away.
After a long time, Alexander finally spoke again, "Do you want to see Esme?"
Victoria was silent for a while before answering, "I do, but I don't."
Alexander didn't push her. "Then wait until you want to."
Upon discovering that Esme was still alive, Victoria was lost in thought. She had countless questions but didn't know where to begin.
At 7 PM.
An unexpected guest arrived outside the ward.
"Keith, I can't let you in without Mr. Howard's permission." Dylan and the bodyguards blocked Keith at the door.
Thora immediately started pushing, angrily shouting, "Move aside, we need to see Alexander. Where did he take Christopher?"
The couple didn't look good at all.
Christopher had gone missing. On Christmas Eve, Christopher had promised to come back, but Thora had been waiting in vain.
No one answered the phone, and they couldn't reach any of Christopher's subordinates.
Only then did they realize something might have happened.
Keith used some connections but couldn't find him. Finally, he could only think of Alexander. Over the years, Christopher had only ever clashed with Alexander in secret.
He went to Howard Villa to find Nathan, but Nathan refused to see him, and the couple couldn't even get in the door.
Finally, they found out that Alexander had been going in and out of Cleveland Clinic recently, but they couldn't find out why.
After getting the news, the couple rushed over.
"Alexander, come out; I have something to ask you," Keith shouted outside the ward.
Since this floor was for VIP patients, it was particularly quiet. His shout immediately brought the nurses over.
After all, a big shot was staying here, and the director had previously instructed that no disturbances were allowed.
"Sir, ma'am, you can't make loud noises here," a nurse ran over to persuade them.
Thora, completely unconcerned about the nurse and solely worried about her son, forcefully pushed the nurse aside when she tried to stop her.
The door opened, and Alexander walked out. The hallway instantly fell silent, his commanding presence creating an oppressive atmosphere.
"Mr. Howard," Dylan and the others stepped aside as he came out.
Alexander glanced indifferently at Keith. "What do you want from me?"
Keith didn't have a chance to speak before Thora cut in, her tone harsh and unfriendly, "Where have you hidden Christopher?"
Alexander, with a blank expression, said to Thora calmly, "You must be joking. Your son is missing; why are you looking for me? Shouldn't you call the police?"
Thora was rendered speechless by his words. She thought, 'Alexander actually suggests I call the police!'
Looking at Alexander's cold face, she was still somewhat afraid, but Christopher was Thora's only son.
Keith pulled Thora aside. "Alexander, Christopher has indeed made many mistakes, but he shares the Howard family blood. I've never asked you for anything. If he is under your control, I beg you, please let him go."
Alexander's gaze subtly shifted to Thora, then back to Keith.
Keith had never asked Alexander for anything before; he was a tough man. It was unexpected that he would be willing to humble himself for Christopher. It was truly rare.
Alexander chuckled. "Keith, you're overthinking it. He's indeed not with me."
Keith asked, "Then where is Christopher?"
"I don't know," Alexander said calmly, "As I said, if you're looking for him, you shouldn't come to me."
The matter of Nine Heavens Bridge had long been suppressed by him, and Keith couldn't find out.
So, even if Keith suspected Alexander, he couldn't provide any solid evidence.
The couple didn't know what to say for a moment.
As Alexander turned to leave, he glanced at Keith. "Just a friendly reminder: sometimes the things or people you care about aren't always what they seem."
Keith was puzzled, and Thora's heart inexplicably skipped a beat.
