Chapter 317 She's Not Easily Scared
"Boss, everyone's out," the bodyguard in black reported, standing in front of the desk.
The black leather chair slowly swiveled around.
Christopher's face was shadowed, his hands casually draped over the armrests. His eyes were icy cold, and a sinister smile played at the corner of his mouth.
Christopher said, "Tell them, if they mess up this time, they won't see a single cent!"
The bodyguard immediately bowed his head, "Yes, sir."
He turned and left.
Christopher narrowed his dangerous eyes. Christopher would never have allowed someone who knew his secret to stay alive, because only the dead could keep secrets.
Christopher wasn't sure if Victoria had spilled the beans to Alexander, but it didn't matter. If anyone knew, Christopher would make sure they were silenced.
Meanwhile, Victoria's car had just left the Imperial Club for about half an hour when her phone rang.
It was an unknown number. Victoria glanced at it but didn't answer.
After the caller hung up, the phone rang again.
Victoria frowned. She ignored the second call too, but then a text message came through.
Victoria shouted, "Stop the car!"
Kimberly, startled by the sudden command, slammed on the brakes. The car screeched to a halt.
Victoria stared at the text message in disbelief.
The unknown number: [We've got your grandmother. If you know what's good for you, do as we say.]
Kimberly was jolted back and forth. Just as she turned to ask, "What's wrong?" she saw Victoria's face, a mix of grim determination and anxiety. Victoria quickly dialed a number.
The call went straight to Thalia's place, but it rang for a long time with no answer.
Next, Victoria called the staff at the nursing home where Thalia was staying.
The staff answered quickly, and Victoria immediately said, "Hello, this is Victoria. Could you please check if my grandmother is in her room?"
The staff was momentarily surprised. "Ms. Kennedy, didn't you send someone to pick up Mrs. Davis?"
Victoria's heart skipped a beat.
Victoria's voice turned cold, "When?"
Sensing something was wrong, the staff quickly said, "About ten minutes after you left, some people came to see Mrs. Davis and took her away, saying it was your instruction to bring Mrs. Davis home for a while. And before they left, Mrs. Davis was perfectly fine."
Hearing this, Victoria roughly understood.
Thalia had left with them voluntarily. As for how they managed it, Victoria didn't have time to figure out now.
Then, Victoria called the unknown number.
The other party answered immediately.
"Ms. Kennedy, how about it? Have you checked?" The voice was rough and unfamiliar. Victoria had never heard it before.
Victoria squinted her eyes, lowered her voice, and said coldly, "Tell me, what do you want?"
The other party laughed sharply, "We don't want much. We just want to play a game with you, Ms. Kennedy. How about it? Do you have the guts to play?"
At this moment, Victoria's entire body radiated a chilling aura. She lowered her eyes, a hint of murderous intent in her gaze, and her red lips curved slightly, as if foretelling an impending storm.
Kimberly sat beside her, too stunned to speak. Although she didn't know what had happened, it was definitely not good.
"There's nothing in this world I'm afraid to challenge! Tell me, how do we play!" Victoria's voice was ice-cold, making anyone who heard it feel like they were in a sub-zero ice cellar.
Even the man on the other end of the phone shivered instinctively. But he still had to press on, "Ms. Kennedy, you just need to follow the route I give you and drive over."
Then he added, "Ms. Kennedy, remember, come alone. If we find out someone is following you," the man laughed maliciously, "I'm afraid my men might get jittery and accidentally hurt your grandma. That wouldn't be good."
No one had ever threatened Victoria and lived to tell the tale, and she wasn't about to start being afraid now.
Victoria sneered, her voice dropping even colder, "Rest assured, if she get even a scratch, you'll regret ever being born! No matter where you hide, I'll find you!"
He dared to threaten Victoria, and she wasn't backing down.
The other guy was stunned. He'd never met someone so bold. They had her people, yet she was still talking tough.
But he was definitely shaken, and by a woman no less.
He didn't argue further and said, "The route's been sent to your phone, Ms. Kennedy. You have one hour."
After hanging up, Victoria immediately sent the number to her team to trace its origin and location.
Before Kimberly could ask, Victoria filled her in on the situation.
After explaining, Victoria told Kimberly to get out of the car.
Kimberly stood by the roadside, watching the black G-Wagon drive away, and immediately reported the situation to Alexander.
Meanwhile, Victoria made another call from the car.
This call was to Leroy, who had been tailing her.
As soon as the call connected, Victoria said, "I know you're following me, but now I have something to do. Don't follow me."
Leroy wasn't surprised. He asked, "Ms. Kennedy, what do you need us to do?"
Leroy knew that Victoria had just made an emergency stop and then drove off alone, so it must be urgent.
What did she need them to do?
Victoria hadn't figured that out yet, mainly because she didn't know what the other party wanted. Their final destination for Victoria was a tunnel.
Victoria said, "I need to know the construction structure of Nine Heavens Tunnel and the area around it. Don't follow too closely, and let me know once you have the information."
Victoria wasn't familiar with this tunnel, and she didn't have time to look it up now.
Leroy replied, "Got it."
Eric, seeing Leroy hang up, asked, "What's going on?"
Leroy said, "Not sure. Don't follow too closely. Ms. Kennedy's destination is Nine Heavens Tunnel."
Leroy then took out a small laptop and started looking up the information Victoria needed.
At the same time, Alexander received the news and immediately called Victoria.
The first thing Alexander said was, "Listen to me, come back. I promise your grandmother will be fine."
Victoria refused. Though she trusted Alexander's capabilities, she wasn't willing to take the risk. Victoria could gamble with her own life, but she wasn't willing to gamble with the lives of those she cared about.
In this regard, Victoria had never compromised, not even for Alexander.
Moreover, Victoria had her own purpose—something she couldn't tell him.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine."
Those were the words Victoria said most often to Alexander when facing these situations alone.
During their conversation, Alexander had already started driving.
To prevent Alexander from dwelling on the issue, Victoria proactively told him about Christopher and Lorenzo.
But Alexander wasn't surprised.
"Aren't you surprised?" Victoria asked.
Alexander replied, "Because I already knew."
Victoria asked, "When did you find out?"
Victoria had thought Alexander didn't know. When she found out, she was shocked for a moment that Christopher wasn't Keith's son.
As far as Victoria knew, Keith only had Christopher as a son.
"Probably since the first time Christopher tried to kill me and take my place," Alexander said without much emotion.
Victoria clicked her tongue and murmured, "Christopher has some nerve. Knowing he's not part of the Howard family, yet still trying to take what doesn't belong to him."
Alexander wasn't interested in Victoria's murmurs; he was worried about her.
At that moment, Alexander received a message from Dylan with the road map of Nine Heavens Tunnel. There was nothing unusual, except that the tunnel was currently closed to traffic.
Simultaneously, Victoria received the information from Leroy.
At this moment, neither of them could determine what Christopher was planning.
On the other side, Christopher received news that Alexander had left the company, but no one knew where he was headed.
Christopher suddenly laughed. This wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Since Alexander got involved as well, Christopher decided to take the opportunity to deal with him as well.
