Chapter 417 So This Was Their Goal
11:30 PM.
The person across the street finally moved.
The person who had been watching them immediately went back to the room to inform the others.
"Mr. Taylor, Ms. Kennedy, they have left," the man said as he entered.
Thomas didn't speak but looked at Victoria.
Victoria squinted and said in a deep voice, "Marigold, Russell, you two stay at the inn to provide support and continue watching the inn across the street. Report anything immediately."
The two responded in unison. "Yes, Ms. Kennedy."
Then she thought for a moment and said to Thomas, "Thomas, your people should stay too."
Too many people following wouldn't be a good thing.
Thomas acknowledged and gave the orders.
Then, Victoria left with Kimberly, Eugene, and Winter.
The 103 organization had a total of six people.
They arrived at an abandoned area in the town.
It was pitch dark all around, mostly overgrown with weeds.
Victoria and her team followed at a distance.
They got out of the car halfway and followed, then hid behind the tall weeds.
"What are they doing in this desolate place?" Thomas squinted at the six people, his eyes dark and unclear.
All six were wearing floral shirts, and three of them were carrying black travel bags.
As for what was inside, they didn't know, but it looked quite heavy.
Victoria's gaze was on the bags in their hands, and she lowered her voice, "We'll find out soon."
About twenty minutes later, a few honks were heard in the distance.
Soon, a small van pulled up in front of them, and two men got out.
The leader of the 103 organization was a man named Cecil Marshall, with a buzz cut and a menacing expression.
It wasn't just him; the other five members also exuded a strong sense of hostility.
However, ordinary people wouldn't notice this. They would just think the group looked very serious and wouldn't dare to approach them.
Cecil looked at the men getting out of the van and said, "Did you bring everything?"
One of the men in blue said, "Yes, do you want to check?"
Cecil gestured, and one of his men walked towards the van.
The van's windows were covered with curtains, completely blocking the view inside.
The man opened the van door and took a look inside.
Then he looked up at Cecil and shouted, "The goods are as agreed."
Cecil waved his hand again, and the men carrying the three black travel bags stepped forward and threw the bags to the men standing in front of the van.
Cecil stood there with his hands in his pockets, standing straight and motionless.
These men were all tall and strong, clearly skilled in combat.
He nodded to the two men. "Count it, there's five million dollars in cash."
The man in blue chuckled. "No need to count. We believe you. We'll take the money, and the people are yours."
The two men picked up the three bags.
This brief conversation gave those hiding in the dark a vague idea of what was happening.
"The people in the van aren't children, are they?" Thomas muttered.
As soon as he finished speaking, they heard someone shout, "Get out of the van!"
Thomas and the others saw a girl with a ponytail get out of the van, her mouth covered with black tape, and her hands tied behind her back.
She looked no older than five.
Then one after another got out.
A total of ten children, mostly boys, with only one girl.
And they all looked different in age.
Eugene cursed under his breath, "Fuck!"
Victoria's eyes narrowed, and her face darkened instantly.
Her bright eyes were tinged with a hint of malice.
So they were here to trade children.
It seemed that the experiment they were working on had restarted.
"They only brought one van. How are they going to move so many children?" Kimberly asked in a low voice, surprised.
Victoria, next to her, thought for a moment and said, "They chose to trade here, so there must be a place nearby to hide the children first. They can't move so many children at once; it would be too conspicuous. And judging by the children's clothes, they must have been captured for several days, and their parents must have reported them missing."
After a while, Victoria's guess was confirmed.
Cecil and his group of six led the children down a small path into the darkness, with only faint moonlight illuminating the way, making it impossible to see clearly.
"Thomas, you and Winter stay here and wait for us to come back." Victoria immediately said to Thomas, "If I don't come back before dawn, you can go in. I'll leave marks along the way."
"And Kimberly, you stay here and wait too." She turned to Kimberly.
Kimberly immediately shook her head. "Mrs. Howard, let me go with you."
Victoria's face darkened, her attitude firm. "Stay, that's an order!"
Kimberly said, "Mrs. Howard, I..."
Victoria didn't look at her again and said in a deep voice, "Eugene, come with me!"
She then quickly and silently followed, with Eugene close behind.
With Eugene there, Thomas wasn't worried about Victoria getting into trouble.
Besides, Victoria wouldn't impulsively try to save the children.
From what they could see, as long as the children behaved, the 103 organization wouldn't harm them.
Thomas glanced at Kimberly and, in a rare moment of reassurance, said, "With me here, she won't be in danger."
However, he was always friendly to those who protected Victoria, like Winter.
Kimberly looked at him but said nothing.
But she was still very uneasy.
It wasn't that she didn't trust Victoria, but...
