Chapter 169 You Murderer!

Knowing that Marlowe was coming to Rihegde, Lila made a reservation at a restaurant a day in advance, and the three of them went there for lunch.

The three were strikingly attractive, drawing much attention quickly.

But they were used to it, and once seated, they started chatting.

Marlowe didn't have many close friends, but since meeting Lila and Victoria, she had become more cheerful and talkative.

Lila took a sip of water and asked, "Marlowe, what brings you to Rihegde this time?"

Marlowe paused before speaking, then smiled broadly, "I'm planning to settle down in Rihegde."

Lila and Victoria thought they had misheard, and both looked at her.

Marlowe pouted and said, "What? No welcome?"

Lila shook her head. "Yes, just a bit surprised."

Victoria asked, "Why? It's so sudden."

Lila followed up with another question. "Is Grant coming back too?"

She hit the nail on the head with that question.

The next second, they saw a strange look flash in Marlowe's eyes, and a faint self-mocking smile appeared on her face. Then they heard Marlowe calmly say, "We divorced."

Lila was stunned.

Victoria frowned slightly, not knowing how to respond.

Instead, Marlowe smiled sweetly at them and even comforted them, "It's okay. I'm fine. You don't need to look more desperate than I am."

She added calmly, "Besides, it was bound to happen sooner or later. It's been five years, and I'm tired. The thought of divorce actually makes me feel relieved."

"When did this happen?" Victoria asked.

"Just a couple of days ago. I've already signed the divorce papers." She blinked her round eyes before continuing, "But I didn't take anything with me."

Upon hearing this, Lila immediately said angrily, "Grant is so awful, not giving you any property in the divorce!"

Marlowe quickly explained, "No. I voluntarily gave up all our shared property."

"Why?" Lila didn't understand. After all, she had been married to Grant for five years, and Grant was a wealthy man with countless assets. She should have taken some of his property in the divorce.

Victoria didn't say anything, but looking at Marlowe, who had her head slightly lowered, she seemed to understand Marlowe's decision.

Although Victoria hadn't known Marlowe for long, she knew Marlowe had her own pride and wanted to keep the last bit of dignity for herself.

After a long while, Marlowe slowly spoke, "After the divorce, I don't want to have any ties with him."

Sensing the heavy atmosphere, Victoria changed the subject. "Have you found a place to stay?"

"Not yet. That's why I'm here to ask for your help," Marlowe answered.

Marlowe had only brought a suitcase and booked a hotel. She hadn't found a suitable place yet. Having been out of touch with society for five years and without a job, she didn't have much savings. Buying a house was out of the question, but renting one was possible.

The three of them tacitly avoided mentioning the divorce again.

In the end, they decided to let Marlowe stay at Victoria's apartment.

Marlowe hesitated a bit.

"Marlowe, I'm not living there now. It's just sitting empty. I can give you a discount and rent it to you if you don't mind. The environment and security there are great, and it's close to Lila's place." Victoria knew what she was hesitating about and brought up the rent to ease her burden.

As soon as she finished speaking, she saw the hesitation on Marlowe's face disappear. Although Marlowe had asked for their help, she didn't want to take advantage of her.

Marlowe said, "Okay."

With the living situation settled, the next issue was a job.

"Marlowe, have you thought about job? How about..." Lila was interrupted by Marlowe before she could finish. "No, I'll handle it myself. I already have a plan. I can be a dance teacher for kids," Marlowe said.

That was her specialty, after all. She would take it one step at a time.

Since she said so, the other two didn't say anything more.

"I've already paid the bill, Lila. You and Marlowe wait for me for a bit; I need to use the restroom," Victoria said.

Victoria had just come out of the restroom and was walking to the stairs when she ran into Clara, whom she hadn't seen in half a month.

She shot Clara a quick look and was on her way downstairs when Clara's gentle voice stopped her. "Victoria, wait a minute. I have something to say."

Victoria ignored her, but her hand blocked her path.

She frowned, a hint of displeasure flashing in her eyes.

"Stop pretending in front of me. There's no one else here." Victoria lazily lifted her eyelids and said coldly, not giving Clara any face.

Clara didn't get angry or feel embarrassed. It seemed like fate was on her side.

She hadn't expected to run into Victoria while having lunch with Julia today.

She had heard from Elodie about Victoria's recent marriage and how she had taken over thirty percent of the Kennedy family's shares.

She was unhappy about it. Having done so much for the Kennedy family she only received five percent of the shares from Oliver. Although she accepted it, that didn't mean she had given up. She would take it back one day, but for now, she had more important things to do.

"I really have something to tell you today." Clara smiled, her tone gentle and soft.

"I heard from Father and Grandpa that you got married right after breaking off your engagement with Lucas. Is that true?" Clara asked.

Victoria ignored her, so she continued, "Did you marry someone else because Lucas didn't like you and you gave up on yourself? If that's the case, I'm truly sorry, but there's nothing I can do. Lucas loves me, and I love him."

Victoria didn't see any sincerity in her apology.

She frowned, a hint of doubt flashing in her eyes. What was Clara up to now?

Suddenly, Clara raised her voice, "Lucas and I are truly in love. I'm already pregnant with his child. I'm begging you to let us be together, okay?"

Clara's raised voice drew the attention of passersby.

And Clara continued, "If you won't, at least let me keep the baby. Don't make me get rid of it. If you let us go, I'll leave with the baby and never bother you again. I'm begging you."

Hearing this, Victoria frowned tightly, a hint of coldness flashing in her eyes. From her angle, she could see the malicious glint in Clara's eyes.

As Victoria took a step back, Clara pretended to grab her arm but missed, and then she rolled down the high stairs in front of Victoria.

A pool of bright red blood quickly formed under Clara.

Passersby screamed.

Someone immediately called the police, and someone else called an ambulance.

Julia, who had come out to look for Clara after she had been gone for a while, was stunned by the scene.

"You murderer! You even killed Clara's baby!" Julia shouted.

Julia ran over in a panic, pointing at Victoria and accusing her before rushing to Clara's side.

To the onlookers, it seemed like Victoria had pushed Clara down the stairs.

Instantly, the area was filled with whispers and pointing fingers.

But Victoria stood there coldly, as if it had nothing to do with her.

Lila and Marlowe also came over after hearing the commotion. Seeing Clara lying at the bottom of the stairs in a pool of blood, they were stunned.

Lila said, "Isn't that Clara?"

The two of them looked up and saw Victoria standing motionless at the top of the stairs, and their hearts tightened.
