Chapter 339 No, He Values His Life

Grant was getting real antsy in the car when his contact brought the news.

He spotted Nancy right away, recognizing her as the one who had taken Marlowe last time. His crew had been tailing her for ages but came up with zilch.

But here she was at the hospital today. Grant barged in, only to find three people in the room.

"Grant, back again so soon?" Victoria teased, "Weren't you just here this morning?"

"Or are you here to see Alexander?" she added when Grant stayed silent. Everyone knew Grant wasn't there for Victoria or Alexander.

After a beat, Victoria spoke up again, "Neither? Then who are you looking for?"

Grant squinted at the pale Victoria on the bed, but a tall figure quickly blocked his view. "Grant, if you're looking for Marlowe, you're in the wrong place. She's not here," Alexander said flatly.

Grant was about to blow a gasket. If Alexander wasn't there, he would've already confronted Victoria.

Suddenly, Nancy felt a burning, icy stare on her. She felt like a scapegoat, ready to be thrown under the bus. Instinctively, Nancy moved closer to Victoria and Alexander.

Nancy figured Victoria wouldn't ignore her just because she had suspected her of having a split personality earlier. After all, Nancy was just following orders.

Nancy wasn't scared of a fight or losing. She just thought it was pointless to get into it. Besides, Grant's stare was terrifying, his eyes deep and cold.

"Tell me, where's Marlowe?" Grant asked through gritted teeth. Grant was aiming his question at Nancy.

In hindsight, Nancy realized she shouldn't have stuck around so long. The room went dead silent for a moment.

Suddenly, Victoria screamed, "Alexander, my head hurts."

Alexander spun around to see her clutching her head with both hands. She already had a mild concussion, and Alexander genuinely thought she was in pain. He asked anxiously, "What's wrong?"

Before he could finish, he saw Victoria tilt her head slightly and wink at him playfully.

"Nancy, go get the doctor!" Alexander shouted urgently, his voice full of concern.

Nancy had also turned around and caught Victoria's playful wink. "Okay," she replied immediately, then she turned and left the room, passing by Grant. The whole thing took less than a minute.

Grant and Kevin were stunned, mostly because Victoria's scream had scared them. Given that she had just come back from the brink of death, they didn't doubt whether her pain was real or fake.

Once outside the room, Nancy left the hospital through the emergency exit. She had no intention of actually fetching a doctor. If she didn't leave now, when would she?

Victoria used this trick to get Nancy out because she didn't want Alexander caught in the middle. After all, Nancy and Victoria were together in this, so naturally, Alexander would side with her.

"Wait a minute, can't we just press the button to call the doctor?" Kevin muttered.

Grant heard this, his eyes full of mixed emotions.

On the bed, Victoria was still clutching her head, crying out in pain.

"Cut the act!" Grant snapped.

Victoria just ignored him. "Honey, it seems my headache's gone. Just one touch from you, and the pain vanished. Guess we don't need the doctor after all," Victoria said, lowering her hands and looking up at Alexander, blinking and smiling.

Alexander's lips curled into a smile, his eyes full of affection for Victoria. He found her more adorable by the minute.

Victoria's voice was loud enough for everyone to hear. Grant was speechless. Kevin's temple twitched.

"I need to talk to you," Grant said, trying to keep his anger in check.

Grant had never been this frustrated in his life, but Victoria always left him at a loss. He should never have let Marlowe get close to her!

Victoria knew he was talking to her. Alexander looked at her, and she looked back at him. Alexander reached out and ruffled her hair. "If you want to talk, just talk. If not, I'll kick him out for you."

Victoria smiled. Grant took a deep breath, pressing his tongue against his cheek. This was unreal!

Victoria didn't think there was anything worth discussing with Grant. She said bluntly, "Grant, I'll say it again, I don't know."

Grant squinted but stayed silent. She continued, "Besides, think about why you don't want a divorce. Is it because you suddenly realized you're in love with Marlowe and can't live without her? Or is it because you feel you haven't tormented Marlowe enough and want to keep her trapped? Or maybe, Grant, you're just used to Marlowe's presence, so you can't accept her not being by your side?"

Victoria's three questions hit the mark. "I think the first one is impossible," Victoria answered for him. A strange look flashed in Grant's eyes, but he didn't respond.

Victoria said, "Whether it's the second or third reason, Grant, you have no right to force her to stay. She has the right to choose."

Victoria had been watching Grant, but he hid his emotions well, staying calm and composed. Apart from the suppressed anger in his eyes, she couldn't read him.

Finally, she added, "If it's because you're not used to it, I believe with time, you'll get used to it. After all, if Marlowe, who loves you so much, can decide to leave, then you, who don't love her, will find it even easier to accept."

The room was silent except for the sound of breathing. Kevin could sense the escalating anger and icy demeanor in Grant, sending a shiver down his spine. But he had to admire Victoria. She was spot on. Her words left him speechless because she spoke the truth.

In the end, Grant left Victoria's room once again, his face dark with frustration. Kevin had lost count of how many times this had happened. He bid farewell to the couple and quickly followed Grant.

The room was once again left with just the couple. Victoria thought for a moment and asked, "Honey, do you think Grant will do something reckless?"

Alexander walked to the other side, picked up the apple he had just peeled, and handed it to her. He said, "No, he values his life." She hadn't expected him to be so direct.
