Chapter 140 Victoria is Hospitalized
Caleb and Garrett got to the hospital after dealing with the mess.
Neil came too.
But he went straight to the ER.
Garrett handled the car explosion at the beach, while Caleb went to the factory, which he seriously regretted.
He'd never seen anything so gross in his life.
"How's Victoria? Is she okay?" Garrett asked Alexander as he came out of the ward.
"She's fine, just a sprained ankle," Alexander replied, looking grim.
"The car Victoria drove was actually Neil's. The target wasn't Victoria, but Neil. No one expected her to take his car," Garrett explained. "We still don't know why they went after Neil."
"Where's Neil?" Alexander asked coldly.
Caleb rubbed his jaw. "In the ER, with a broken wrist." He coughed and added, "And he was got hit with some love potion or something. By the time I got there, it was chaos."
Though he didn't spell it out, everyone knew the drug was meant for Victoria.
Neil had really crossed the line this time.
"Send him to the Discipline Enforcers. No one gets him out without my say-so!" Alexander said icily.
Alexander's whole vibe was chilling, his tone enough to scare anyone.
Victoria waited alone in the ward for an hour before Alexander came back.
He thought she was asleep.
"Why aren't you sleeping?" Alexander asked.
It was the first thing he said to her since the car explosion.
"I'm scared, I can't sleep," Victoria replied, looking pitiful.
Seeing him stand so far away made her feel worse.
Alexander didn't expect that. She'd been so calm and decisive with the bomb, like she'd done it before.
But he felt awful. When he heard the explosion and saw the flames, he felt like he couldn't breathe.
He'd never been so scared, and even now, thinking about it terrified him.
He thought he could keep her safe, but realized accidents could be deadly too.
This time, his team failed to protect her, leading to all this.
Seeing him just stand there, Victoria looked sad and bit her lip. "Honey, I was wrong. I'll listen to you next time."
Alexander saw her rare show of weakness and felt both helpless and serious. "You want there to be a next time?"
Victoria blinked and shook her head. "No."
Alexander couldn't ignore her, so he got into bed and held her as they slept.
Before falling asleep, Alexander whispered in her ear, "Promise me. Don't get hurt again." His deep voice resonated in her ears. "Because I'm scared."
Then he held her tight. Victoria buried her head in his chest and wrapped her arms around his waist.
He had hidden his fear so well. If she hadn't felt him trembling when he held her at the beach, she wouldn't have known Alexander was so scared.
"Okay, I promise," Victoria said.
She didn't expect to break that promise so soon.
Suddenly, she smelled blood.
She remembered Neil's words.
She reached out to unbutton Alexander's shirt.
Alexander noticed and quickly grabbed her wrist, looking down at her. "What's wrong?"
Victoria met his deep eyes. "You've been shot?"
Alexander was about to say, "No, go to sleep," but she cut him off. "Don't lie to me. I can smell it."
Alexander fell silent.
Was her sense of smell that sharp?
He had Owen bandage the wound with several layers of gauze and even used special medicine to cover the smell.
"Neil told me you got shot and were out cold," Victoria said.
"So, you rushed off in the car because of this?" Alexander retorted.
"Yes." She nodded.
Victoria didn't care if he agreed or not; she had to see his wound.
Alexander had no choice but to unbutton his shirt and show her.
With the gauze wrapped around it, she couldn't see the wound clearly, but its location near his heart showed the assassin aimed to kill him.
Seeing her frown, Alexander patted her head gently. "I'm fine. Don't worry."
She gently touched the area around his wound with her fingertips. "Then you have to promise me too. Don't hide things from me and don't get hurt again."
She knew Alexander's position was dangerous, and he wasn't just a company leader as everyone thought.
Alexander kissed her forehead. "Okay, I promise. Now, sleep."
The next day, when Victoria woke up, Alexander was already gone, but soon Marcus and Quentin arrived.
"Do you two need something from me?" she asked, seeing them standing in the ward, looking hesitant.
Marcus and Quentin exchanged a glance, and Marcus spoke first. "Mrs. Howard, please help Kimberly."
Quentin added, "Yes, you're the only one who can help her now."
Victoria was puzzled. "What happened to her?"
Marcus explained, "She was punished by Mr. Howard for not noticing you were missing in time."
Victoria was slightly taken aback.
"Alright, I see." Then she asked, "Where is Alexander?"
Quentin replied, "He went to handle some matters and will be back soon."
After Marcus and Quentin left, she picked up her phone, which they had brought back, and called Kimberly.
Meanwhile, Kimberly, who was about to receive her punishment, answered Victoria's call.
"Mrs. Howard," Kimberly greeted.
"Where are you?" Victoria asked.
"I'm at Serenity Grove Manor," Kimberly answered.
"Meet me at the hospital. We need to talk," Victoria said.
Victoria hung up without giving her a chance to respond.
At the Cleveland Clinic, Kimberly arrived at Victoria's ward.
"Mrs. Howard, do you need something from me?" Kimberly asked.
Victoria, half-lying in bed, glanced at her, relieved to see she was unharmed.
"Yes, I need you to do something for me," Victoria said.
