Chapter 226 Satisfied?
Sawyer explained, "This is Victoria's friend."
Landon raised an eyebrow. "Are all Victoria's friends this hot?"
But this chick had a cute, round face with a cold expression that warned strangers to stay away. Weirdly enough, he kinda liked it.
He threw on his best charming smile and said, "Hey there, Miss."
Nancy just rolled her eyes, clearly unimpressed.
Sawyer facepalmed, averting his eyes.
Sure, Landon was a looker, but Nancy wasn't into his type—especially the fake, flirty kind.
Landon felt the burn and went quiet.
First time a girl had ever given him the cold shoulder. She even rolled her eyes at him!
Not ready to give up, he smiled again and asked, "Miss, you here to see..."
"Are you nuts?" Nancy cut him off, looking annoyed. "Why are you grinning like that?"
Landon was speechless, eyes wide, and angrily pointed at her. Then he turned to Sawyer, who was just watching the drama, and yelled, "Sawyer, get her outta here."
Sawyer shrugged, "She's Mrs. Howard's friend, man. Don't drag me into this."
Sawyer let out a cold laugh and clammed up.
A sleek black Maybach rolled into the garage at Serenity Grove Manor.
Alexander and Victoria strolled into the living room, hand in hand.
Alexander's eyes narrowed when he saw Landon and Nancy on the couch, and the room got icy real quick.
Alexander said coldly, "Landon, you ignoring me now?"
Landon, glued to his phone, suddenly felt a chill. Alexander's scary voice snapped him out of it, and he looked up to meet those cold eyes. "Alexander, I..."
Alexander gave Nancy a quick glance and asked, "Is this the girl you're into?"
Landon was totally lost.
Nancy's mouth twitched. 'Is this guy for real?'
Victoria's mouth twitched, too; this whole mix-up was hilarious.
Alexander still remembered that story she made up.
Nancy saw Victoria and stood up, calling out, "Victoria."
Alexander was a bit surprised and turned to look at Victoria. Their eyes met, and Victoria grinned. "Nah, you got it wrong. She's my friend. I invited her."
Victoria then looked at Nancy. "Hungry?"
Nancy shook her head. "Yes."
Victoria said, "Cool, let's have dinner together later."
Nancy's icy demeanor melted away, and her eyes sparkled with happiness and admiration. "Okay."
Landon was still scratching his head over Alexander's words. How did Alexander know he was in love? Maybe...
Seeing Alexander and Victoria heading upstairs, he quickly called out, "Hold up."
Alexander didn't seem guilty for thinking Landon had brought a stranger. Instead, he shot him a cold look.
Landon shivered. "Alexander, who said I'm in love?"
Alexander looked at him like he was an idiot. "Does someone need to tell me? Or are you just confused about your own feelings?"
Landon went silent.
Victoria's mouth twitched.
Landon was momentarily stunned, feeling like Alexander had answered him, but not really.
But it kinda made sense.
Alexander ignored him and led Victoria back to their room.
By 8 PM, everyone was stuffed and chilling, mostly on their phones.
A document exposing a bunch of illegal stuff by the Shadow Syndicate quietly hit a group chat.
In less than half an hour, the internet blew up with people sharing and reposting it, some even recording it to post online.
Netizens started demanding the authorities to dig deep and investigate.
[This place needs to be shut down for good. It's bad news for everyone!]
[They need to throw the book at them, or how many more families are gonna suffer?]
[This whole operation is illegal. People still out here killing like it's nothing. It's scary.]
Soon enough, the authorities dropped a statement, promising a full-on investigation to give the public some answers.
Less than an hour after the news hit, cops were already on their way to Shadow Syndicate 'cause the whole thing involved at least three deaths.
Raymond rushed into a VIP room, pushed the door open, and whispered something into Christopher's ear.
The room was lit up with flashing lights, and the noise of dice rolling drowned out Raymond's words.
Christopher's smile froze instantly.
Trying not to raise any eyebrows, he forced a smile, greeted everyone, and said he had something to handle before stepping out.
"What the hell happened?" Christopher asked in a low, pissed-off voice, gritting his teeth.
Raymond, right behind him, also lowered his voice, "Someone ratted us out. They said Shadow Syndicate's using the bar for shady stuff like money laundering, illegal deals, drugs, and gambling. The cops have the evidence, and it's blowing up online."
Most folks at Shadow Syndicate were just there to chill, so no one was checking their phones.
So, the people inside had no clue what was going down outside.
Plus, with someone keeping things hush-hush, they were even less likely to notice until the cops showed up.
Raymond had just come back from outside and saw an entertainment news alert on his phone. Without even checking it, he ran straight to Christopher.
Raymond said anxiously, "Mr. Howard, it's too late to back out now. We gotta bounce before the cops get here."
Clearly, the other side blindsided them, leaving no room to fight back. They had no choice but to ditch Shadow Syndicate.
Christopher ordered, "Get someone to wipe all the accounts and surveillance."
Christopher's mind was a mess. He had no game plan for this. No one even gave him a heads-up, meaning this was a sneak attack.
He got a call only after he got into the car and left Shadow Syndicate's underground garage.
Police Chief Ronald Hill said, "Mr. Howard, I just got word that someone reported Shadow Syndicate. Get as many people out as you can, fast."
Christopher replied coldly, "It's too late for that."
Ronald was taken aback and then explained, "You can't pin this on me. I don't know why it happened so suddenly either. I only got the notification after they sent the officers."
"So, you're saying someone went over your head and reported straight to the top?" Christopher asked.
Ronald was just as confused. "I asked around, and no one reported it. They just sent the officers directly."
This meant someone had given the green light to the cops.
As for who it was, he had no clue.
Back at Serenity Grove Manor, Victoria was lounging on the sofa, her head resting on Alexander's lap. She looked up at his handsome face, held her phone in front of him, and asked, "Did you have someone do this?"
Alexander held her wrist, glanced at the phone, and nodded. "You happy now?"
She was stunned for a moment, then realized he was avenging her.
"This is just the start. Anyone who hurt you or even thinks about it will regret it." Alexander's deep eyes had a cold glint, but he spoke the sweetest words in the most ruthless way.
Victoria blinked. She was totally moved by Alexander.
