Chapter 306 What Do I Have to Do for You to Let Me Go?

That night, Landon had just left a club with his buddies when a girl in a thick white down jacket, tall and slender, came sprinting towards them.

One of his friends, with eagle eyes, immediately recognized her.

He nudged Landon and said, "Hey, isn't that the girl who confessed to you at the bar last time? She's coming our way."

The word "confession" sent shivers down Landon's spine. The memory of Helen's unexpected kiss still haunted him.

Helen's name flashed in his mind, and he shivered, quickly looking in the direction his friend pointed. He barely paused before bolting towards the parking lot.

His friend yelled after him, "Landon, why are you running?"

Before he could process it, he heard a sound. A white blur zipped past him, also heading for the parking lot. He stood there, dumbfounded. "Man, she's fast!"

Reaching the parking lot, Landon glanced back. Realizing she wasn't following, he sighed in relief and strolled towards his car. But then he froze, eyes wide with horror.

How did the white figure leaning against his car get there? When did Helen arrive? Wasn't she supposed to be behind him?

Landon scanned his surroundings, his mind racing with questions.

Helen leaned against the car, catching her breath but still able to talk. "Don't be surprised, Landon. I know this place well. Took a shortcut."

Landon didn't say anything, just took a few steps back.

Helen noticed his attempt to escape and spoke again, "Landon, don't run. You can't outrun me."

'Can't outrun her? Isn't it usually the guy saying that to the girl in dramas? Why's it reversed for me?' Landon thought.

Helen caught her breath and straightened up. As soon as she stepped towards him, Landon immediately stopped her, "Don't come any closer!"

Despite her cute and innocent look, Helen had a wild streak and was a pro at lying with a straight face. She said, "So you plan to come over on your own?"

Landon was speechless.

Helen didn't care. While he was dazed, she closed the gap but kept a three-step distance. She pouted, cheeks puffing up, "Landon, why do you run away when you see me?"

Landon didn't answer but shot back, "Why do you keep chasing me?"

Helen replied, "I've told you, because I like you."

Landon was speechless again, unsure how to respond. He turned and said, "What do you like about me? Can I change it?"

Helen shook her head, eyes sincere and firm, "Even if you were missing an arm or a leg, I'd still like you."

For a second, Landon wanted to curse. His temple throbbed, and he said harshly, "But I don't like you! Not now, not ever! Got it?"

Helen's eyes dimmed for a moment but soon lit up again. "I get it."

Landon felt a bit relieved, but then Helen changed her tone, "But plans can't keep up with changes. Who knows what the future holds? Landon, just let me chase you. Maybe you'll end up liking me, right? You never know unless you give it a try."

Her unconventional approach gave Landon a headache. "Did I do something wrong?" Landon asked, feeling helpless. Why couldn't he get through to her?

Helen grinned and said seriously, "How about I ask this question for you in my dream tonight?"

Landon was speechless. What nonsense was she talking about?

Helen continued, "Landon, I'm cute and beautiful, with a great body. I'm also thoughtful, talented, and clever. You'd be gaining so much. I..."

Helen started listing her merits on her fingers, not feeling embarrassed at all. On the contrary, Landon's head hurt even more. She talked too much and had thick skin.

"Stop!" Landon rubbed his forehead, took a deep breath, and said, "Didn't you promise Victoria the other day that you wouldn't bother me anymore? You can't go back on your word, can you?"

Helen looked confused. After a moment, she blinked her clear, star-like eyes. "I never said that. Why should I keep my word?"

Landon was stunned. "What did you say?"

Helen repeated, "I said I never told Victoria that. Instead, she encouraged me to persist in doing the right thing. Liking you is the right thing."

Victoria was having lunch with Alexander when Landon called. She didn't pick up, so Alexander did.

As soon as he put the phone to his ear, Landon's frantic voice came through, "Victoria, didn't you say everything was sorted out? Why..."

Alexander cut him off with a cold, sharp tone, "Landon, watch your tone!"

Even through the phone, Landon felt a chill. "Alexander, I..."

Alexander wasn't having it and interrupted, "How old are you? Do you still need others to handle everything for you? Are you incapable of thinking for yourself or just plain incompetent?"

Helen, watching Landon from the side, didn't know what was being said, but she saw his face drop. Her eyes lit up like she'd discovered something new. She sneakily took out her phone and snapped a photo to capture the moment.

After the scolding, Alexander hung up, not giving Landon a chance to respond. Even Victoria didn't get a chance to take the phone.

Alexander said, "Eat."

Victoria replied, "Okay."

Alexander thought for a moment and then added, "Don't worry about Landon's issue. Let him clean up his own mess."

She rolled her eyes and said, "I guess this time it's a bit tricky."

She thought, 'Helen is quite fierce; Landon might have a hard time dealing with her.'

Alexander, showing his tough love, said, "Then let him suffer a bit."

Landon, who had been hung up on by Alexander, looked frustrated. Suddenly, someone poked his right arm. He turned to see Helen, slightly tilting her head and poking his arm with her index finger.

Helen asked sweetly, "Landon, are you okay?"

Actually, Helen was quite pretty, and it wasn't just her being self-absorbed, but Landon genuinely had no interest in her.

"Yes!" he replied irritably.

Helen ignored his bad tone and immediately flashed a bright smile. "So, Landon, does that mean you agree to let me chase you?"

Landon really wanted to roll his eyes. "What will it take for you to leave me alone?"

Helen seriously thought about it. Landon didn't have much hope for her answer, just hoping she would be more cautious.

After a moment, Helen cheerfully and earnestly said, "It's simple. Just agree to be my boyfriend, and I won't chase you anymore."

Landon pressed his tongue against his back teeth. If it weren't for his good upbringing, he really wanted to curse! This conversation kept circling back to the same topic!

Finally, he struggled one last time. "Helen, can't you just focus on your studies?"

Helen answered without hesitation, "Pursuing you and studying aren't mutually exclusive."

Landon said, "You're only a freshman."

Helen corrected him, "I'll be a sophomore next year, and there's nothing wrong with dating in college."

Helen suddenly said righteously, "Landon, if you're worried about my grades, don't be. I promise to ace every test. I can pursue you and still excel academically."

Landon rubbed his forehead again, feeling tired. She could do whatever she wanted as long as it wasn't excessive.

"Do whatever you want!" Landon said helplessly and powerlessly, turning to leave.

Helen stood there in a daze for a few seconds before reacting. Then she danced around happily in place.

"Wait for me, Landon. Give me a ride since we're going the same way," Helen shouted from behind.

Landon suddenly stopped, and she thought he agreed to give her a ride. But he turned around and said, "Helen, although I said you can do whatever you want, I have conditions. Don't touch me anymore."

Helen nodded, somewhat understanding. "Alright."

Then Landon added, "Also, don't show up in front of me for no reason. If you don't come first in any exam, you can forget about chasing me."

Helen's thought process was different from normal people. She instinctively blurted out, "So if I get first place every time, you'll agree to be my boyfriend?"

Landon was silent for a few seconds, and then said, "Don't try to trick me. I never said that."

Although he didn't know her academic situation, he wouldn't agree to her terms.

Seeing he wasn't falling for it, Helen pouted but didn't get discouraged. Instead, she seemed even more determined. "Landon, I won't give you a chance to reject me."
