Chapter 278 Is There a Reward for Finishing It?

Victoria headed downstairs to grab a glass of milk and took it straight to the study.

Alexander had just wrapped up reading the last document when she walked in.

The moment he saw her, the stern look and exhaustion on his face vanished, replaced by a softness he reserved just for her.

The room was warm, and he was in a white shirt with a couple of buttons undone, showing off his enticing collarbone. He looked both dignified and devilishly attractive, radiating a mature and steady vibe, along with a tenderness that was all hers right now.

"Here, drink this," she said, walking over and handing him the glass.

She knew he hadn't been sleeping well for several nights.

She used to sleep through the night, but lately, maybe because she was used to him being there, she'd wake up the moment he wasn't beside her.

Despite burning midnight oil for nights, he always acted like everything was fine. No matter how stressed or tired he was, he always took care of her.

Alexander didn't ask why; he just looked at her and obediently drank the milk.

"Do I get a reward for finishing it?" Alexander shook the empty glass in front of her, like a kid asking for candy.

A happy smile lit up her face, and she raised an eyebrow, answering cheerfully, "Yes."

As soon as she said it, she leaned down and kissed him on the lips.

Then she boldly traced the outline of his lips with her tongue, tasting the faint hint of milk.

She didn't pull away immediately. Their lips stayed pressed together with a slight gap, and she whispered, "Is this reward enough?"

Her bright eyes sparkled like stars, looking absolutely stunning.

Alexander's lips curved into a slight smile, and a mischievous glint appeared in his deep eyes. He softly said, "Not enough."

The next second, he gently pulled her slender wrist, and Victoria fell into his arms.

He lowered his head and kissed her lips. Their breaths mingled, and his tongue gently pried open her teeth, making the taste of milk even stronger between them.

Alexander held her while sitting in the chair, one hand around her shoulder and the other casually resting on her leg. He kissed her forehead, trying to calm the desire she had stirred in him.

If it weren't for the fact that her period was about to start, he would've made love to her already.

Victoria nestled in his arms, feeling his warmth and slightly fast heartbeat, breathing in his faint scent, her cheeks still flushed.

Suddenly, Alexander's deep, husky voice sounded in her ear. "Does your waist still hurt?"

As he spoke, his other hand gently massaged her waist.

She shook her head while resting on his chest, "Much better."

The slight friction between her fragrant hairs and his chest felt like a feather constantly teasing his heart.

His strong self-control could be broken by her, but he could also maintain it for her.

Alexander said, "I heard from Sawyer that someone came to see you this afternoon."

Victoria twiddled the buttons on his shirt with her fingers and nodded softly. Then she recounted everything Alfonso had said to her.

Her slender fingers traced circles on his chest, and she asked the question that had been weighing on her mind, "Do you think there are people who can come back to life in this world?"

Hearing this, Alexander frowned slightly, remained silent for a moment, and then said, "From a scientific perspective, no."

Victoria's expression remained calm. She was a scientist herself, so she understood this principle well.

But all the weird stuff she’d seen always messed with her head. It was kinda funny to think about it; this idea had been a joke for over twenty years.

Meanwhile, over at the Kennedy mansion, Simon kept calling Victoria, but she wasn’t picking up or hanging up.

Victoria had blocked all their numbers before, so he got a new one, hoping she’d answer.

But he didn’t get Victoria. She never picked up calls from unknown numbers.

Especially since the number showed it was from Ridgefield. She didn’t know many people there, and she had saved the numbers of the few she was familiar with.

The Kennedy Group had lost several long-term clients out of nowhere in the past few days. With Christmas coming up, the company’s cash flow couldn’t afford any hiccups to ensure next year’s revenue and operations.

After thinking it over, the only person who could have a grudge against the Kennedy Group was Victoria.

But considering her multiple identities and, most importantly, Alexander’s backing, they didn’t dare to openly confront her.

Since she cut ties with the Kennedy family, Oliver regretted it deeply after learning about the resources she had behind her and even fell seriously ill.

Clara stood at the second-floor corner, watching Simon anxiously pacing back and forth in the living room, her eyes filled with malice.

She always thought that Simon and Oliver wouldn’t do anything to her because she had the title of “Perfume Genius.”

But ever since they found out that Victoria had become Alexander’s wife, they changed, desperately wanting to repair their relationship with Victoria, but they couldn’t even see her.

Clara couldn’t accept it. Everything in the Kennedy family should be hers. As long as she had the capital, she could still make a comeback.

Today, she got a notification that she made it to the finals of the perfume competition. She glanced at the finalist list and saw that she could still maintain her position in the top three this year. As long as she held onto this position, she would still have some influence in the perfume industry.

Moreover, it was said that the mysterious Deer would attend this year’s finals as a judge. If Clara could connect with her or become her apprentice, Clara’s status would be even more solid.

The title of Deer’s student alone would be enough to intimidate everyone.

Since Deer had never taken a student, Clara wanted to be the first.

Clara was confident about this competition because she had something others didn’t.

She cast a cold glance downstairs and then turned back to her room.

Sitting on the bed, she held her phone, thought for a moment, and made a call.

The call was quickly answered.

“I’m willing to cooperate with you,” Clara said with a dark, cold look, her features twisted, and she gritted her teeth, “I have only one condition: make Victoria disappear forever.”

The person on the other end readily agreed.

Christopher leaned back in his chair with a slightly leisurely yet arrogant posture, holding a cigarette between two fingers. He squinted his eyes and exhaled a ring of white smoke.

Christopher asked, “What did she say?”

Raymond repeated Clara’s words verbatim.

Christopher sneered, a cold glint appearing in his deep eyes, and his lips curled with a sinister air, “She’s truly vicious and bold.”

Raymond stood silently beside him.

Since the Shadow Syndicate was uprooted, Christopher had become increasingly eerie and gloomy.

At the same time, it accelerated his determination to seize the position of the head of the Howard family. He didn’t want to delay any longer.

He couldn’t deal with Alexander now, but he could start with the people around him, the ones he cared about.
