Chapter 246 We'll Take Care of You
Victoria was sprawled out on the couch, hugging her knees, and said, "Hey, there's something I haven't told you yet."
Her bright eyes locked onto Alexander, who was leaning back with his hand on his forehead. Watching his sexy Adam's apple bob up and down, she swallowed hard, a shiver running through her. She suddenly realized she had some steamy thoughts and even wanted to nibble on his Adam's apple.
That little interruption pretty much killed the vibe between them.
Alexander asked in a husky voice, "What's up?"
Victoria replied, "The research institute already applied to set up a new facility here after I got back from Rihegde, so I don't actually need to go abroad. But it'll take until next year to get all the gear set up."
Alexander was quiet for a moment. So she had everything planned out.
After chilling at home for a couple of days, Marlowe went back to work. Since that day, she hadn't seen Grant again; he hadn't even come back to the apartment.
But she felt pretty calm now, like the heartache had dulled, maybe because she was getting used to it.
Today, Lila had invited her and Victoria to go shopping for a gift.
"Lila, are you picking out a gift for Owen?" Marlowe asked casually.
Lila replied, "What gift would I get for him? It's for my grandpa. His birthday is next Friday."
Hearing this, Marlowe thought about the date and realized it was true, so she just nodded softly.
Married to Grant for five years, she had never been truly accepted by him, so she had never been to the Scott Villa or met Grant's father, Caspian Scott, and the other elders of the Scott family as Grant's wife.
Lila, trying to be considerate, said, "Marlowe, why don't you help me? I really don't know what to get my grandpa."
Lila knew that Grant had never taken Marlowe back to the Scott Villa all these years.
When Grant and Marlowe got hitched, they kept it a secret from the family. Eve said that Caspian was super pissed when he found out, saying that Grant was being reckless and had ruined Marlowe's future.
Marlowe immediately refused, "No way, I can't. I don't know what your grandpa likes, either."
Lila didn't care about that. She grabbed Marlowe with one hand and Victoria with the other and dragged them into an antique shop.
Finally, the three of them stopped in front of an antique.
The shop assistant chimed in, "You three have a good eye. This is one of the most precious antiques in our shop. The materials are top-notch, and this is the only set available on the market."
Lila and the others didn't think the assistant was exaggerating; nothing from this shop had ever been fake.
Marlowe knew that Caspian loved collecting antiques, so this was actually the most suitable and practical choice.
"Marlowe, you really get my grandpa's tastes," Lila said with a grin. Honestly, she hadn't thought of giving this.
Then, the straightforward Lila said, "Wrap it up. I'll take it."
The shop assistant's eyes lit up instantly. They had met a wealthy customer today.
The assistant nodded happily and said, "Sure thing, Miss. Please wait a moment."
Marlowe had just given a suggestion and didn't expect Lila to decide so quickly. "Aren't you gonna ask about the price?" Marlowe turned to Lila, slightly stunned. This obviously wasn't cheap; it must be worth at least a few million dollars.
Victoria patted her shoulder with a smile. "Don't sweat it, Marlowe. You don't need to worry about her or save money for her. She's loaded."
Lila agreed, "Right, don't save money for me. Besides, this is a birthday gift for my grandpa. As long as he's happy, who cares how much it costs?"
Marlowe fell silent. That seemed to make sense.
Then the two of them heard Marlowe sigh. "I almost forgot about your statuses."
How could two career women possibly be short on money?
Unlike Marlowe, who received an unstable salary every month.
"How about we support you from now on? No need to sigh." Lila hooked her arm around Marlowe's and raised her eyebrows with a smile. "As for men, they're optional."
Suddenly, Lila looked at Victoria and added, "But if they're as gentle and considerate as Alexander, they're acceptable."
Marlowe wholeheartedly agreed with Lila's words.
After Lila paid, the three of them left.
They had just walked out for less than a minute when they ran into Clara and Lucas, whom they hadn't seen in a long time.
Victoria wasn't particularly surprised or curious. They weren't important, so she had no emotional reaction.
Lila, who didn't like Clara, suddenly smiled and said, "You two are still in touch? Lucas, you're quite loyal. You deserve a round of applause."
After saying that, Lila even clapped symbolically.
Lila really couldn't stand these two; they were disgusting.
Gloome instantly clouded Lucas's face.
