Chapter 181 Who Are You?
"Yo, are you Michelle, the youngest mentor from that dance show everyone's talking about?" The store clerk's jaw practically hit the floor. She couldn't believe her eyes.
"Ms. Hoilt, you're amazing! Your dancing is just... wow. And you're gorgeous too. I love watching you on that show. Your critiques are always on point. We all adore you," the clerk gushed.
This was like a mini fan meet-and-greet, and she was gonna milk it for all it was worth.
Michelle gave a slight nod, her eyes twinkling behind her shades, and kept a warm smile.
"Thanks for the love, but I'm just here to chill and shop with my friend today. Can we keep it on the down-low?" she said softly.
The clerk zipped her lips and nodded like her life depended on it. "Got it."
In her head, the clerk was fangirling hard. 'Michelle's voice is as smooth and sweet as her dance moves.'
Just then, Michelle's eyes widened behind her sunglasses. She spotted someone familiar.
It was Marlowe. What was she doing here?
And if Marlowe was here, did that mean Grant was around too?
Marlowe looked up and locked eyes with Michelle. One look was all it took. Marlowe recognized her instantly and cursed her luck.
She was about to make a quick exit, but Michelle called out, "Marlowe, long time no see."
Marlowe's manners made her stop. She looked up slowly and said coldly, "Yeah, it's been a while."
"How've you been?" Michelle asked.
Marlowe's sneer was ice-cold. "Not that it's any of your business."
Jessica, who was with Michelle, wasn't having it. "Hey, what's with the attitude? Michelle's just being nice, and you're acting all frosty."
She had no clue about the history between Marlowe and Michelle.
Michelle put a hand on Jessica's arm. "It's cool, Jessica. Marlowe's an old friend."
No matter how indifferent Marlowe was, Michelle always maintained a gentle and graceful demeanor.
Marlowe found the word "friend" laughable. "Ms. Hoilt, I don't think I can accept that title."
Michelle's smile faltered for a second, and she said, "Marlowe, I..."
Before she could finish, Lila showed up. "Marlowe, what are you doing here?"
Michelle was caught off guard. Lila, the Scott family's princess. She'd met her through Marlowe back in the day. Seeing them together now was a shock.
"Nothing, let's bounce," Marlowe said, linking arms with Lila. Just as they were about to leave, Michelle stepped forward. "Wait up, Marlowe, Lila."
Lila looked puzzled. Did Michelle know her?
Michelle took off her sunglasses, revealing her stunning face.
Lila stared for a moment before asking, "Who are you?"
Michelle was floored.
Marlowe chuckled at Lila's reaction.
Michelle's grip on her sunglasses tightened, then she relaxed and smiled. "I'm Michelle. You used to visit Marlowe at our dorm. We were pretty tight back then, remember?" she said, trying to sound familiar.
Lila paused, like she was really trying to remember.
Michelle was still hopeful. Back when she and Marlowe were close, Lila had been friendly too. After all, Lila was the Scott family's daughter, so she had to stay on good terms with her. But things had changed.
Lila just shrugged and said nothing more.
Michelle was stunned. That was it?
She watched as Lila linked arms with Marlowe and said, "Marlowe, let's go. Victoria's already paid and is waiting for us. Don't you need to get a gift for Grant?"
Marlowe was momentarily surprised but then smiled. "Yeah, let's go."
They walked off, leaving Michelle standing there, feeling more ignored than ever.
She clenched her fists, her face darkening slightly, then put her sunglasses back on and walked out.
Jessica dropped the clothes she was holding and hurried after her.
Meanwhile, Marlowe asked, "Lila, why'd you bring up Grant just now?"
