Chapter 491 Alexander, You're in Trouble!
Victoria glanced into the room, immediately noticing a woman in a form-fitting white dress sitting unusually close to Alexander's bedside.
She narrowed her eyes slightly but remained silent.
Marcus, standing closest to her, clearly sensed the shift in Victoria's demeanor.
He looked anxiously toward the bed, thinking, 'Oh no, she's definitely upset.'
"Alexander, thank you for saving my brother," the woman, Lavinia Harrison, said in a soft, graceful voice.
The affection hidden in her eyes didn't escape Victoria's sharp gaze.
Victoria's narrowed eyes instantly took on a cold gleam.
Marcus felt a chill run down his spine.
Lavinia beckoned to a small boy nearby, "Ezra, come here and thank Alexander properly."
But Ezra Harrison's first words instantly plunged the hospital room into an uncomfortable silence.
"Are you my sister's boyfriend? Thank you for saving me," he said, finishing with a deep bow.
Alexander immediately countered with an icy tone, "I am not Lavinia's boyfriend. Don't address me incorrectly."
Ezra shrank back, intimidated by Alexander's frigid demeanor.
He furrowed his small brow in confusion.
But Lavinia had clearly told him Alexander would become her husband.
Lavinia had initially been pleased hearing Ezra's words, but Alexander's frosty response shattered her satisfaction.
She quickly adopted a stern expression. "Ezra, don't speak nonsense."
Ezra's lips turned downward in disappointment, but he nodded obediently. "Okay."
She then turned to Alexander, who hadn't once looked at her, with an awkward smile. "I'm sorry, Alexander. Ezra's young and doesn't know better. Please don't hold it against him."
Alexander's handsome face remained dark and cold. "Youth isn't always an excuse for such behavior."
Lavinia fell silent.
Her parents, Knox Harrison and Selene Peterson, shifted uncomfortably in the awkward silence.
Victoria studied the little boy, raising an eyebrow in recognition. It was the boy in the checkered shirt she'd rescued in the forest.
So Alexander had gone there to save him.
Which meant Alexander rescuing her had been merely coincidental.
The realization felt like a wad of cotton lodged in her chest, heavy and suffocating.
'Alexander, you're in trouble now!' Marcus thought, having apparently developed a keen sense for reading the room. He could interpret the meaning in Victoria's eyes.
To prevent a potential "divorce crisis," he cleared his throat.
"Mrs. Howard, you're back," he announced.
Victoria remained silent.
Everyone in the room turned to look at Victoria, who had appeared without anyone noticing.
This was Lavinia's first time seeing Victoria in person.
Previously, whenever Alexander had trended on social media, she'd learned online that he was already married. Back then, she'd nearly destroyed everything in her house in rage—she had always assumed she would be the one to marry Alexander.
She still couldn't accept it.
Yet she hadn't dared approach him directly.
This time, she'd only contacted him because of Ezra's kidnapping, begging for his help—and he'd agreed.
That had to mean he still cared for her, she was confident of that. After all, she had once saved his life.
She'd been foolish then—why hadn't she asked him to marry her? Now someone else had beaten her to it.
"Important guests?" Victoria asked coolly, glancing briefly at Lavinia before shifting her gaze to the older couple. Her face maintained a slight smile that masked her true feelings.
Marcus quickly made introductions, "Mrs. Howard, these are Mr. Knox Harrison and Mrs. Harrison of the Harrison Group, along with their children Miss Harrison and Mr. Ezra Harrison. Miss Harrison once saved Mr. Howard's life, and now Mr. Howard has repaid that debt by rescuing Mr. Ezra Harrison."
Alexander gave Marcus an approving look.
Marcus thought to himself, 'Not only do I have to worry about work, but I also have to manage his love life! This is exhausting.'
Suddenly, he envied Dylan and the others who had stayed in Ridgehe.
Victoria understood the situation now.
Meanwhile, Ezra recognized Victoria.
He immediately broke free from Lavinia's grasp and ran to Victoria. Being so short, he had to tilt his head back to speak to her.
"It's you! The cool, pretty lady! I know you—you saved us!" he exclaimed happily, grabbing Victoria's hand and grinning broadly.
The scene surprised everyone.
Including Victoria herself, who fell silent.
