Chapter 139 It seems like Alexander is mad at her
Victoria's calmness left Quentin stunned.
In the face of danger, she stayed cool. Any other girl might've been freaking out, maybe even crying.
Right now, there was a time bomb in the car, and the brakes were shot. They hadn't seen that coming.
The big problem was the car wouldn't stop, and she couldn't get out safely.
The only way to stop it was to use obstacles to slow it down.
But this was a country road with hardly any obstacles.
Alexander's voice came through her earpiece. "Victoria, listen. Dylan will set up obstacles at the next intersection, you..."
Victoria cut him off. "No, that could hurt innocent people. We don't know how powerful this bomb is."
Alexander didn't care about that; he just wanted her safe.
"Listen to me. I just want you to be okay." He left no room for argument. He was terrified of losing her.
Victoria knew he was worried but couldn't ignore the risks.
"It's too late, the countdown's started. Only two and a half minutes left," she said.
Alexander and Quentin were shocked. How did time go so fast? It had only been three minutes. Unless the bomb was remotely controlled.
"Don't worry. I won't die. I can't bear to lose you. I'll find a way out before it explodes." Victoria made a sharp turn, heading for another road.
She had checked; there was a beach nearby.
The beach was wide, and the sand could slow the car. Even if it exploded, it was late, and no one would be there, so no innocents would get hurt.
And her chances of surviving a jump were better on the beach than the road.
After saying this, she hung up and sped up.
"Mr. Howard, Mrs. Howard hung up," Quentin said, looking at the disconnected call.
Alexander saw her change direction and frowned.
She planned to jump out, but at this speed, she'd definitely get hurt.
"Mr. Howard, Mrs. Howard is probably heading to the beach," Quentin checked the route.
Victoria's mind raced, thinking about how to minimize injuries.
The car reached the beach in a minute and a half, and it was pitch black.
When Alexander's car arrived, the car exploded. A loud bang echoed, and flames lit up the beach and sea.
The car exploded without warning, thick smoke rising.
He stopped, jumped out, and ran towards the explosion, Quentin right behind him.
Soon, Caleb and Garrett arrived too.
They hadn't expected the car to blow up. They exchanged a glance and ran over.
In the dark, no one noticed Alexander trembling, his eyes red, and lips pale.
The car's wreckage was everywhere. If Victoria had been inside, she wouldn't have made it.
Alexander was halfway there when he heard a familiar voice.
He followed the sound.
Victoria had jumped out early, fixing the steering wheel and bailing before the explosion.
In the dark, they hadn't seen her jump.
Luckily, the beach sand was soft. She rolled a few times, only spraining her ankle.
"Honey, I'm here," Victoria called out to the familiar figure.
Soon, she was in Alexander's strong, trembling arms.
She hugged his waist and patted his back. "I'm fine. I told you I'd be safe."
Alexander just held her tighter, not saying a word.
Victoria couldn't see his red eyes, only feel his trembling. She realized how much she meant to him.
Alexander stayed silent, afraid he'd lose control. Seeing the car explode and then seeing her safe felt unreal. He'd never feared losing anything, but she was different.
He was terrified. No one knew how scared he was when he found out about the bomb.
"My foot hurts, honey," Victoria said.
Alexander let go and checked her over. Besides minor scrapes and a sprained ankle, she was okay.
Caleb and Garrett arrived, relieved to see she was fine.
"I'll take her to the hospital. You two handle this," Alexander said, then quickly left with Victoria.
On the way, Alexander was silent, which made Victoria a bit scared.
He didn't say a word.
At the hospital, he carried her to the emergency room, where Owen was waiting.
He stayed with her during treatment, gentle but silent, with a stern face.
Owen knew what had happened and sensed the tension.
He admired Victoria's luck. With a bomb in the car, she got away with just a few scrapes and a sprained ankle. Probably the luckiest person ever in a situation like that.
Fortunately, there was no bleeding. Given her condition, anything else could've been worse.
An hour later, Victoria was in a ward.
But Alexander was about to leave.
This confused Victoria.
